Title: TG-CD motor problem?
Post by: Arkhan on May 21, 2010, 07:42:58 AM
My friends TG-CD won't spin discs.  It starts to spin the disc.... like it goes *thunk* and the disc spins a few times but that is it.

I opened it and checked, the gears look brand new, and the lens moves back/forth properly.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?  I was thinking it is the motor but I don't know much about that stuff

My vote is laser focus.  I believe the 'thunk' is the laser wacking the disc as it tries to focus.

yeah, after it spins a little it goes "please set disc"

so the lense is bad?

Laser could definitely be bad, esp if it worked in the past and just stopped now.

dunno, he got it off the bay of E, and it didn't work from the getgo.

The gears are working, the lens moves back/forth.    Where can he grab a replacement lense/lazer?

look around for a kss-220a, eg:

http://www.electronix.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?ELECTRONIX_CATALOG_SESSID=434d9ec5c200e3cfafe87c5dfd25ee43&keywords=KSS-220A&x=0&y=0

there are picto-howtos on the forums here for how to swap it.

yea Arkhan, the laser is dead.

My friend finally wants to repair his TG-16 CD unit.

Are we sure this is the problem, cause I owe him 45$ and said I'd buy the like 25$ part and put it in for him to square us off, and I'd hate to have that not be the solution to the TG-16 issue...

Just a heads up, electronix.com is back ordered on the laser. I ordered almost a month ago and still haven't got word of it shipping.
