Title: Insanity Contest Redux
Post by: Arkhan on July 30, 2010, 11:37:31 AM
Lets try this again minus the lolwar
I think we need to keep the Insanity train rolling.
So here is a little contest.
A high-score contest of sorts.
5 lucky weeners will get I'm Insane for Insanity copies of Insanity. Scribbled on by yours truly. You can then love them, burn them, ebay them for a retarded sum, or be like "I don't want that crap, keep it"
All you have to do is the following:
Play the game in predator mode, and see how far you get.
To get to predator mode, hold one of the 4 cardinal directions down while pressing Run to start the game.
I am not telling you which direction to press, only because now you get to try them all and see the other hidden stuff: Arcade Mode, HyperMode (good luck), and an early Pyramid Plunder Prototype!
To prove you are playing Predator mode, either:
1) film the whole thing with a camera and upload it to youtube! (cutting the video if you manage longer than 10 minutes) 2) Play in Ootake and use the video recording option and send me the file or use some other PC video recording thing and YouTube the video! 3) Take pictures (pause it or something) or Screenshots in an emulator. You can pause it when you get shot and killt that last time and see your final score before the screen blacks out. It is sort of lurpy, since theres that whole "I forgot to deal with high scores" thing, but I think we're all smart enough to handle it!
and the good news is, the Retrocade has highscore stuff. No forgetting this time.
Keep checking Aetherbyte.com for news on the Retrocade. Pyramid plunder is turning out excellent thanks to new graphical work. No more of my crappy artwork.
I like chicken, I like liver, meow mix meow mix PLEASE DELIVER.

This may be a dumb question, but should I avoid playing either version of Insanity on my Duo or is one of them OK to do that with?

The official pressed copy is as safe as a commercial PCE CD game! It is the real deal my man. Feel free to play it to your hearts content. I demo'd it for 16 hours on a Duo-R
the CD-R (CCAG lightscribe) copy is not as safe, as is the case with any CD-R
however it may be the safest CD-R ever since it barely ever loads any data unless you're doing CD Audio mode.
and, there is no such thing as a dumb question!

Thanks for clearing that up, Arkhan. I tried it out and Predator mode is fun. Are digital camera pics OK? I got 3490 on my first go and I'll keep playing to see how many points I can rack up. When does the contest end?

:)
I would enter myself, but it's not fair since I tested predator mode out for like, a few months straight lol.

Contests! Love them! Especially with prizes! 24,500.
Wow, the difficulty stays pretty low (slow) for a while & then ramps up *really* fast--lost about 3-4 guys all one after the other towards the end there.
I also like the fast mode & the mode that looks like Tron. Cool!
Thanks, -Jason
PS--were you serious about beating the game in Predator mode?

damn thats a good score :D
and yes, I am.
When you've been playing it over the course of a year nonstop... you kind of get good at these things.
:D

Thanks--when contests & prizes are on the line, I really focus! :)
I also found it way way easier to play with a Turbo Stick than a Turbo Pad!
What's involved in beating the game on predator mode?
Thanks, -Jason

Good job with the scores guys! The best I've been able to do so far is 23440. I might have better luck with the stick, does anyone know where I can get an adapter for the Duo controller port?

If you already have a US TurboStick that you like, you can get the adapter at Moero: http://moeroshop.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=24827
Better still, some of the guys that do mods can make you a reverse Turbo Tap that will let you plug TG stuff into a Duo or PCE. (Or Vice versa if you want). Any of you guys that do these have some for sale?
...Or you could use that money on getting a good PCE stick that will work with your Duo.

Arkhan, you should do a top 5 scores tracking in your top post. Keep the competition fierce.

Thanks for the info, Henry. That adapter is exactly what I need. Have you ordered stuff from Moeroshop before? By the way, I'm not familiar with the currency. How much is that in US dollars?

Good job, Necromancer. I think I've got some more spunk in me--time to put away Typing of the Dead & bring Insanity back out!

Oh, spit. About 5-6 games tonight all in the 20k-25k range. I improved only 1050. Fudge.
New score submission: 25,550. Why is that darn level so darn happy...???
Thanks, -Jason

Argggh, a few more sessions of playing has netted me several scored in the low 25,000 range, & I managed to snag 29,770, but I was so flabbergasted ("Evil Otto" appeared right on top of me, as I recall) that I was too slow on the pause button to capture my score. Fudge. Back to it I go!

Thanks in advance for not making the scores disappear instantly after the last death--perhaps they could show on the "death" screen that required pressing "Run" to continue--that would be handy.
In any case, I don't expect you to accept my 29,770 score. I'll keep playing & get some proof when I pull out another good game.
Thanks, -Jason

I'm pacing myself for a marathon....Actually, I haven't had much luck finding a more affordable adapter or stick. I'll just tough it out with the pad and see how that treats me.

I tried a few rounds with my QuickShot joystick and was reminded of why that piece of shit is best left on the shelf.

I find that the Python 4 (Quickshot) controller controls really well in Galaga 90. It is my controller of choice for that game as it works great since you only have to move side to side. They still sell them brand-spanking new from a seller on Amazon for only $10, which is where I got mine:
But for sure, the controller sucks for everything except for a couple of shooters. It's a nice collector piece to have though.

Hey Arkham, the top post doesn't reflect my last score entry! 8-[
chany60126, I ordered a Python from Amazon. It arrived quickly & looks pretty slick (though triggersticks are certainly not my preferene for games with a whole lotta shootin'!). Thanks for the heads-up!
Thanks, -Jason

Wow, sorry for the super-slo response... yes, I have ordered from Moero before... great service, but shipping is high to the US.
They charge in Euros, if you have a Paypal account, you can "send money" and switch currency to Euros and it will convert the amount to Dollars for you.
Thanks for the info, Henry. That adapter is exactly what I need. Have you ordered stuff from Moeroshop before? By the way, I'm not familiar with the currency. How much is that in US dollars?

Today was the big day--the postman brought me my customj signed super duper special Insanity. Thanks!
One of the hinge arms on the front cover is slightly cracked, & half of the spider legs that hold the disc were cracked off.
I'm OK w/ it--I've got lots of cases--just giving you feedback on your shipping, as requested.
Thanks--looking forward to your next game!
