Title: In The Hunt (Saturn)
Post by: Mathius on August 23, 2010, 06:50:50 PM
I heard from a friend that the Saturn version of In The Hunt won't run on certain Saturn models. I just recently bought the game, and sure enough it won't play on my Model 1. Unfortunately, I just bought the Saturn, thought that the system was malfunctioning, and sent it back to the seller. Fortunately, he bought me a new stand alone Model 1 as a replacement. Anyway, my point is do any of you know which models don't have this problem and do you know anything more about this issue?

I've never heard of compatibility problems for either the mk1 or mk2 saturns.

As far as I know, the only Saturns that had compatibility issues with certain software were the Japanese skeleton saturns.  According to google search, games like Metal Slug, Space Harrier, Out Run, After Burner were affected.

I've never heard of this problem. There are some weird aspects of the Sega Saturn though, that's for sure. Did you know that some games don't have region lock out? I think the US version of Baku Baku Animal is one of them.

And yes, in this case the PS version is better. Both are totally decent though.

It is a known fact that the JAP In the Hunt had some bad pressings of CD. Symptoms include:
1. black screen after Saturn logo
2. intro FMV plays but nothing after that
3. general frustration

I have 2 copies of the game and I have a good one and a bad one. Neither games have any scratches it was just a bad batch at the factory. I have only tested the 'bad' disc on my V-saturn and a US model 1 (with cart).

I have a US copy of the game which I've used on new fewer than four Saturns. Just on a side note though, the Playstation version is actually better, it has far less slowdown.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I bought the Saturn version of In The Hunt because that's the only one that would ever get mentioned in game reviews or You-Yube vids featuring the Saturn. Opethian, I picked up the US version, but a lot of those issues you mentioned have happened to mine at one point or another.

Conventional wisdom will tell you that anything 2D is better on Saturn. Its usually true, but in some cases it swings the other way. Symphony of the Night is better on PS, so is In the Hunt. There are also some where its kind of borderline, like Thunderforce V (backgrounds are better on SS, polys better on PS).

However you can be safe buying everything for Saturn though, just to keep it simple, since while some 2D games are slightly better on PS, none of them are unplayable shit like the PS versions of any Marvel VS game from Capcom, or KOF. KOF 97 on Playstation is....soooooooo terrible. Its missing so much animation I can't even combo.

EDIT: changed the KOF example from SS to PS (I f*cked up) and from 98 to 97 since 98 isn't even on Saturn.

as for the shooting games released on both cosoles, as a general rule I would say, that everything outside the ST-V world looks better on the PSone. as for the brawlers it is a complete different case.

Huh?  Game uses a RAM cart.  I never had any issues with the Saturn version.

Whoops, my mistake. I meant KOF 98 on PS was shit.

The only issue I ever had with KOF 98 for Saturn is that it doesn't even exist!

I really enjoy In The Hunt on Saturn.  Having never played it on the PSX, I couldn't tell you which is better...  but I can say that you won't be disappointed with the very good Saturn game!

Graphically the on very par, really. just 1:1 arcade acurate. but technically, the PSone is far better than the SS port. you still can set it to low pace in the menus, if you like

the music on PSX is far better. I just wish mine would boot enough times :( I have a Kaitei Daisensou! not the US version. I did not know the problems plague the US version.

I had a load problem with my model 2 Saturn and In the hunt before.  It would freeze right at the start of the intro.  I even tried another model 2 Saturn and would freeze at the same point.  Other games loaded and played fine.

It ended up being caused by a faulty controller that had a loose connection.  Kind of weird since In the Hunt was the only game that would freeze because of that controller.

That's odd because on my first unit if I touched any button on the controller it was definitely NOT going to load. Otherwise, it would only load less than half the time. Since I got my replacement I haven't had that problem.
