The LE version of the Ys 3 remake, Oath in Felghana has been announced.  I knew it was coming, but, it's nice to see it for reals, just waiting for the pre-orders to be up on amazon!

Indeed, though, not sure what else they could do, since we already got a map, & an artbook that covers Ys 7, Oath, & Chronicles.  It would be cool if for Chronicles they had a figurine or plushie or something.  Oh, & the ost included with this apparently includes a song that's never been released, not sure what it is though.  Either way, this is a ridiculously great game!

edit-& now the LE version is already up on Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/YS-Oath-Felghana-Limited-Sony-PSP/dp/B00429E6KU/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1283954777&sr=1-2

Yeah, but I'm waiting for the LE version to go up.  Also, I might mention that everyone here should atleast buy 2 copies of each Falcom game Xseed releases!  I bought both the LE & digital versions of Ys Seven, & will do the same with the rest.  The more people that do this, the better the sales, & the more likelihood of even more Falcom goodness making it outside Japan!!

Great Idea.  I bought 3 copies of I and II on DS and gave two buddies a copy.  I didn't know they were doing a PSP LE for I and II.  Good info.

I don't know that "working" is the correct term, rather, they bought his translations for both Oath & Ys 1 & 2, & then doing any editing & shining up where needed.

Usually anywhere from $80 to $120 depending on condition.  If you want I'll keep an eye open for one and I could load it up with all the homebrew stuff you'd need to really enjoy it!

homebrew rocks. Do they have the latest CFW that works with the newer games? For Ys 7 I had to actually rip and patch the game, can't actually play directly from UMD.

I heard there were some work around enablers for the new stuff to run on the older custom firmware.  I haven't tried a recent UMD game so I haven't had a problem yet.

It's the way to go since loading on the memory card has faster loading time. But still be nice if I didn't have to do that.

I'd say within the next few weeks we should see an LE version of 1 & 2 Chronicles(up for pre-order that is).  After that(atleast for me), there's the wait to see when Legend of Heroes: Tracks in the Sky will be released!  All I can get out of Tom/Wyrdwad, is that they're still translating it, & still has a ways to go do to the tremendous amount of text in the game, & that's just the first of a trilogy!  Tom did finish all his work on the Chronicles translation, so I'm hoping he'll be going in to help Jessy with Legend of Heroes & get that series out the door!

I got the game.  I've owned the soundtrack for years and years so I didn't need that.  I also don't need what is probably a 2010 calendar.  So I got the regular edition.  I hope I don't get made fun of for not getting the "limited" edition.

[-X  Ha ha, you got the regular edition ](*,)  Hee hee, ho ho!  Actually though, there is one song on the cd that comes with the LE, that's never been released on physical media till now, it's the version of Styx(I think that's the name) that plays I think during the narrator's opening IIRC.  I got both the LE version & the digital version.  I probably won't have the LE version till the end of the week, but, no matter, playing the game already!

:)  Im sorry, I had to

I know.  It was a joke, dumbass.  And you fell for it! But it would be awesome if it was a 2010 calendar with two months on it.  Not sure why a calendar would appeal to videogame consumers. And PD I know about that extra song, but that song is not worth $10.

So far the game is good.  The opening was nowhere near as good as the TG-16 opening, though.  Hell, I've already forgotten the opening it was so lackluster, slow and boring.  But the game is really fun and that's what counts.
Title: Re: Ys 3 remake for PSP Limited Edition announced!

The calendar is pretty nice.

Its a bunch of little postcard things in a plastic container with fancy artwork.

:D

I didnt play the game.  I already beat it on the computer awhile ago.  I assume its the same game.
Title: Re: Ys 3 remake for PSP Limited Edition announced!
Post by: Joe Redifer on November 03, 2010, 11:24:46 AM
I've seen the special edition as my friend bought that edition while I bought the regular one.  I agree the calendar and its case is pretty nice, but not something "useful" other than the artwork.  In fact, if it were just post cards of artwork minus the calendar it'd be a better deal.

Was the computer version the 3D version?  I seem to remember an Ys 3 remake that was 2D side-view that looked freakin' awesome but didn't scroll.  Was that one called Oath in Felgana as well?
Title: Re: Ys 3 remake for PSP Limited Edition announced!
Post by: ParanoiaDragon on November 03, 2010, 03:57:26 PM
Yeah, the calender doesn't send me either.  I just bought it to buy it, & you're right, the 1 song, atleast for me, isn't worth the ost, & I own the cd's back from when the PC version came out, so, nothing new other then that one song.

As for that side scrolling Ys 3 that came out, that was Taito's remake they did for PS2(along with Mask of the Sun, & Kefin Lost City of Sand).  I have it, it's ok, the sprites n tiles are nice, the music is ok, but there are alot of area's that don't scroll, it's wierd.  This PSP game is the one that Falcom released on PC....the same year that Taito did it's remake of Ys 3 no less!

Ys 3 PS2

Yeah the PC one used the Napishtim engine also.  Its a great engine, and id like to think its the reason the Lufia 2 remake is in the same style.

Now that Ys 3 is localized I hope Falcom does Ys Origins on PSP so someone can pick that up as well.  I loved Ys 7 and I own the PC version of Oath.  Nightwolve's translation was quite nice.  My wife is going to get this for me for Xmas.  I can wait till then, since I have so much else to play through at the moment.  I can easily veg with some Ys 3 on my psp this xmas that's for sure.
Title: Re: Ys 3 remake for PSP Limited Edition announced!
Post by: ParanoiaDragon on November 04, 2010, 02:50:50 PM
Yeah, I'm hoping for a PSP port(or even PS3 if possible) of Origin, though Falcom has also hinted at remakes of Ys 4 & 5...which both desperately need it!  Especially 4, since Falcom never released their own official Ys 4, & there were atleast a total of 5 made, with 2 unfinished.  The Turbo, SNES &(much later) PS2 ones were released, but the Mega CD & X68000 ones were scrapped for some reason.

Also, I do wonder if Curse of the Sinistrals is Ys inspired, though, the combat it slower then Ys games, it still is similar regardless.
Title: Re: Ys 3 remake for PSP Limited Edition announced!
Post by: Arkhan on November 05, 2010, 07:37:18 AM
I think it is directly inspired for sure.  Why else would a turn based RPG suddenly go all Action RPG platformer, right after all the 3D Napishtim engine'd Ys games are exploding all over the place.

Is the PSP getting a Napishtim'd Ys 1 and 2?  I think that "Napishtim" should be part of every Ys title.

I was really hoping that this Ys 3 remake was going to be a 2-D sidescroller. :( I'd also like to see the PCE version of Ys IV re-released. I don't even want to try patching the English translation , then burning a CD-R and playing it in my Turbo-CD. I really want to play that game on real hardware someday.

Nope, it's getting a full 2D remake/(port of Ys 1 & 2 Complete) with a redone soundtrack, & I do mean redone, it's friggin' great!  Only thing I wish Falcom did was include voice acting in this version!  I'd love it if Xseed added some, but, being the bump n' grind gameplay that it is, it'll probably sell the worst next to Ys Seven & Oath in Felghana.

I think I'll pass on that.  I didn't care for the music in that trailer, sounded too synth-crunchy, for lack of better description.  I've played through Ys 1 and 2 many times and there's no way it be as epic as the TG-16 version.  I nearly fell asleep playing the DS remake, never bothered to finish it.

It is possible that I will change my mind in the future.  I have a very hard time resisting Ys games.  We really need 5 redone and released here.  4 as well (as previously stated).  Was 5 ever on anything except the Super Famicom?  I would love to have the entire (effectively) redone Ys library on my PSP.
Title: Re: Ys 3 remake for PSP Limited Edition announced!
Post by: ParanoiaDragon on November 09, 2010, 04:33:21 PM
5 was redone by Taito on the PS2...to mediocre results.  I heard they did a better job on 5 then they did with 4, but, I haven't played thru 5 yet so I can't say for sure.  Thier version of 4, while tolerable to me, is actually pretty crappy, very repetitive & cheap.  Too bad they didn't just make it 2D like Ys 3.  As for Chronicles, I actually already have the Jp version, I figured it would never get released here as opposed to Ys Seven & Felghana, but, I was wrong!  So, I'll be picking up the US version in a heartbeat!

Here's a video, even though it's supposed to overall stink, I still wouldn't mind if someone release Taito's Ys games over here, maybe in a budget pack or something.

Tax cheque finally cleared! Premium edition ordered!

Hmmmmm anyone have any guesses as to what'll be in the YS1+2 premium edition?

It'll no doubt have a soundtrack cd
YS 7 had the art book for all the up coming PSP YS games so I dont' think we'll get an art book.
Maybe it'll come with a DVD or something telling the story of YS for those new to the series perhaps... that would be cool.

In any case xseed should be announcing it soon enough.

Sounds like for some reason there won't be a premium edition of 1 & 2, but rather, there will be a bonus or 2 for pre-orders, kind of a bummer, I'm figuring maybe it's cuz they expect it to not sell well?  Better get in those pre-orders everybody if you want the bonus's!

Yeah, that's Wyrdy/Tom, he's the translator for Oath & Chronicles, & came in late on Seven.  I see him alot on the Ancient Land of Ys boards http://seldane.proboards.com/index.cgi?

I highly doubt there will be any Tales games coming from Xseed, though only time will tell.  They..or atleast Wyrdy, really want to release more Falcom games!

As for Oath, loving it & the soundtrack, I'm at the final boss, I remember him being tough when I originally played it on PC.  The soundtrack I absolutely love, but I don't know if I like it more then the Turbo version, most people do, but personally, I think it's different, & my love devoted to both versions equally.

Yeah, both soundtracks are awesome and it is hard to choose.  There are definitely tracks I prefer on the TG-16 and tracks that I prefer on Oath.  Then there are some that I think are a draw, but different is good!

PS - What level are you at?  I want to make sure I am more powerful than you when I get to the last boss.  :)

IIRC, I'm at 53.  Plus I have the top sword, armor, & shield, & they're all leveled up to the max.  I don't recall what level I was on when I beat it back on PC though.

I picked up the game again today and played it.  Now I remember why I haven't played it for so long.  It really kind of sucks.  Worst version of Ys 3, worse than even the SNES version!  Music is good, but the game is not.  I have no desire to continue playing it as it no longer brings me any enjoyment.

What don't you like about it?  You don't like the gameplay?

I don't like how when things get hectic, it is difficult to see your character (lots of flashy effects cover him up and the such).  The game difficulty is severely unbalanced and there are platforming sections which are insane, like this one place in the mountains where it's like walking across a tightrope going up.  Even if you have the stone shoes you're gonna fall and keep falling all the way down.  There is no need to have platforming like this in an Ys game.  The manual lists an option to prevent you from falling off screen, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

But then again this game is made by the Japanese who haven't been in their prime since the mid-to-late 90's.

hmmmm.....so far I am enjoying it. I think the original side scrolling of YS3 makes sense to have some platforming. Also it is cool how you can change the in-game music to older versions of YS3 (but no Turbo).

I loved it, both on PC & PSP!  Though, I remember it being easier to find the "no fall" option in the PC version.  I too was confused on how to find it, but I did, & it came in handy, no doubt.  Personally, it's one the most fun games I've ever played, though, I enjoy Ys Origin more!

*sigh* I guess I'll bust out my PSP, just for you :D

And don't forget, you can change the directional stuff from 360 to 8 way or whatever, I've heard it makes a difference, but, I kept mine on 360 since I'm used to the analog nub.  There's a lil check box in the general section that says limit to 8 Directions, I recommend you do that if you're having trouble with the narrow area's in the mountains!

Ok, push start, go to Option, go to Buttons, press X & go down to Extra Function, to the left of Extra Function, there is something to click on, change it to No-Fall, the other options are Wing Warp or Walk.  Now, when you are playing the game, press select & a lil shield will be on the screen signifying that you are in No-Fall mode, however, when you fall down a pit to another room, takes you off No-Fall mode, so just press select again to implement No-Fall mode again.

Christ, why is it in "buttons" and not in "general options"?  Those wacky Japanese.

Falcom has already hinted at remaking both Ys 4 & 5, probably for PSP.  I want those, but I also want a PSP version of Ys Origin!  Hopefully they'll do all 3, & then Xseed can bring them over, I hope I hope I hope!
