OK, as much as I love the TG16 Bomberman games (they were the games that introduced me to Bomberman), I must admit that Saturn Bomberman is my favorite. I think the general opinion, especially back in 1997, was that is was the best Bomberman game ever made. The widescreen 10-player battle mode was just amazing. Killer music, killer graphics, killer co-op story mode, this game had it all.
Anyone else feel the same way?

Yep I agree, I still break this game out on a regular basis 13 years after I bought it. Of party games I play on a regular basis, only Super Monkey Ball gets more use.

Its still the best Bomberman game since the two dozen or so games after that were lame as hell. If anything were a contender it would be 94 and then 93.
Although, Bomberman Land for Gamecube was pretty cool.
Necromancer, I'm curious to know why you think the single player in 94 is better than the one in the Saturn game. To me, Bomberman SS was a pretty direct sequel to 94, and basically just got better in every way but one; no Old Man Bomber, Policeman Bomber, etc.

My fav Bombers are: Bomberman 94, Super Bomberman, and Saturn Bomberman!!
Love these games, if only they could return to this form of yesteryear!!

To be honest, it's probably more about which one I've played the most, though there are a few things I don't really like on the Saturn - namely the kangaroos look f*cked up, the bomb explosion animation seems slow by comparison, and the childish "start" at the beginning of each level makes me want to puke (though at least it's not nonstop like on the DS).

Yeah, God forbid any childish aspects in a Bomberman Game. Give me the hard core gangsta-ness of Bomberman 93.
I think you maybe just need to actually play the game.
Perhaps so, but what does it offer that is infinitely superior to '94? It plays substantially the same and the only additions I noticed were the better graphics (nice, but 'pretty' doesn't equal 'better gameplay'), better cut scenes (good, I guess), aging kangaroos dinosaurs (yawn), and the few extra powerups (meh in solo mode) of which there's entirely too many in each level.

Nothing about SS is "infinitely superior" to '94. My initial question was, "I'm curious to know why you think the single player in 94 is better than the one in the Saturn game."
IMO Bomberman SS has a slightly better 1 player (actually two player) mode since it has bigger and cooler levels. Its also a lot longer.
BTW, the "start" voices were dubbed for the US version. Which version is more annoying to you?

Saturn Bomberman is my favorite Bomberman, followed by Super Bomberman, and then Bomberman 93.
My favorite part of the game is the 2-player co-op, which is a ton of fun. A testament to how good the game is, is that my friends that come over will actually ask to play the game. Other than Saturn Bomberman, they typically only want to play current gen games.

After a session of Bomberman SS, if you want to make the most out of having your Saturn and a shitload of controllers laying out, get Death Tank or Deathtank Zwei. These games are, IMO, most of the time even more fun than 8 player Bomberman.
Deathtank is hidden on the game Powerslave (you need a code to access it) and Zwei is on Duke Nukem 3D (you need a Quake save on your Saturn in order access this one). I have the US versions of these games which, I think, were released in Europe. I have no idea if they even came out in Japan, or if any Japanese versions would contain the Deathtank games.

I am going to have to try out Deathtank on Powerslave (I do not own Duke 3D). Thanks for letting me know about this, I had no idea Powerslave may have a redeeming feature!

Technically Powerslave was a pretty impressive piece of Saturn 3D for the time. Of course now that things have moved on so much its rather academic. Nearly everything 3D from that era, Saturn or otherwise, looks like shit now.
It took me a long time to track down a copy of both Quake and Duke since I hate both of these games and didn't want to pay very much. There is a rumor that says if you shoot every toilet in Duke you can unlock the game without the Quake save, but I just waited until I could find Quake.
Zwei isn't that much improved upon over the first Deathtank, so I wouldn't kill myself trying to find Duke and Quake. Zwei does have this killer theme song though:
Deathtank, butt spank, your tank, is a dead tank.
Deathtank, frustrate, my tank, in Deathtank.
Deathtank, body bag, give thank, to Deathtank.
Deathtank, Deathtank, Deathtank, Deathtank!

Yeah, that is pretty awesome Zeta. I am in the process of setting up my game room, but Deathtank is on the top of the list once it is ready in a few days.

BM & BM'93 in multi-p mode had the best and most driving BGM in any bombermans ever, just BM'93 is the better bomberman of the two. so BM '93 it is forever.
also BM'93 is not shitloaded with unecessary itmes like BM'94 upwards, just the best selection you will ever need.
other BM's may be better in single-p than BM'93, but i never liked to play that mode so much anyway.

I'll just throw it out there, but I kind of like Bomberman World on PSX :P My friends an I were all in middle school playing N64 games like Goldeneye and Mariokart and we're amazed by having 4 players at once. Then one guy had a PSX with a multitap, and we would play Bomberman World all night long :D
