hey everyone, I picked these up not too long ago on auction...haven't played them much yet..what are your opinions?
P.S. And excuse my ignorance, but I want a cool logo or avatar too..where do you guys get them? -Doom

I think they are both pretty fun games.
Tiger Road - A very fun, classic style platform game. I like the style of this game.
Silent Debuggers - A first person shooter for the TG16, believe it or not. The game is really awesome at first, but it gets boring quickly. I go back to it after so long and play to about level 3 maybe and then stop. This game actually scared me a bit when I first played it because of the beeping system. Quite nice, but gets boring.
-
There are some really nice tense moments in Silent Debuggers too, when you are working under pressure. They did a great job establishing atmosphere. Gets a bit repetitive though, and also too hard for me, like many Turbo games. The dialogue scenes are not skippable which can get frustrating when you have to start over.
-
Plus I'm not sure if you can continue in Silent Debuggers. There might be passwords, but I'm not completely sure. Probably.

I don't know if I'm the only one that recognizes this, but the drum channel used in the Tiger Road music sounds like it was ripped out of Bubble Man stage music in Mega Man 2 for NES.
-
I've never played silent debuggers but I do have tiger road. I like it, it's a fun game with pretty good visuals and sound. The bonus rounds are cool. It does have it's cheap moments though. Sometimes the dudes just keep jumping down on your head and you can't do anything to protect yourself.

Frist time i've seen a good reponse on the, TG16 version of Tiger Road.
Just about any other 'site i go to i end up getting this reponse. It's a poor port and.. it's no way as good as it's arcade counter part.
Dunno man

I've never played the arcade version though I have seen screenshots and it does look better. The arcade version may very well be better but the turbo version is still a solid game in it's own right.

Well, since Tiger Road Arcade came out in 1987, Mega Man II was 1988, and Tiger Road conversion to PC engine was around the same time... it wouldn't be surprising if Capcom personnel overlapped on some of the projects.
Lots of companies have their own "library" of sound effects and "instruments" that are recycled in many projects (i.e. think of Konami's / Ultra's NES output)...
... but I don't know how relevant this is to PCE tiger road since capcom might not have been directly involved in it.
-
I hated both of them back in the day, I can't imagine either would have gotten better with age. Tiger Road was a crappy platformer that just wasn't any fun, and Silent Debuggers got boring REALLY fast because of the lack of a save feature and the unskippable dialogue scenes (like somebody else mentioned). Get Legend of Hero Tonma instead, it reminded me of Tiger Road if it had actually been decent.

Yeah in fact, i'm gonna go off topic, but I also noticed on Hucard Sidearms a familiar sound effect Ive heard on another NES Capcom game (Legendary Wings).
Legendary Wings: You fire his highest leveled up weapon on auto fire
Sidearms: Boss explosion
And Burning Angels sounds like a late 1988 era NES/Famicom game.
EDIT: This issue about PCE/Famicom sound output deserves its own thread.

Burning Angels is a pretty radical game.

Some day i like to play arcade version to compare.

Silent Debuggers gets boring for some because the walls for each particular level don't change, along with the fact that hunting down the aliens can be a tiring chore...especially when the green aliens start breaking into the core. There is no save feature, but the game expects you to win or lose in under 2 hours so that's sorta understandable. Having the right weapons for this game helps a lot by the way. :) The ending is really cool and makes playing through the game worth it...the last level is a real pain in the tail though.

How can Tiger's Road be a poor conversion when it's actually way better than the arcade? As a matter of fact, it's almost a whole different game. Gameplay is tough yet gratifying, graphics are neat, PSG tunes have a flavour all their one. A great "conversion" from Victor, IMO.

I imagine the purists had a fit with this one...just like they had a fit with the PCE port of Cadash.

Silent Debuggers: I actually never played this game when I got it (when it came out). But, a few years ago I finally broke it open and played it. I was actually surprised with how much fun I had with it, since the reviews for it weren't that good back-in-the-day, let alone today. Lights off -- this game needs to be played alone in the dark.
Tiger Road: Never played it...

Silent Debuggers is one of my all time favourite games period. They do a great job establishing the mood and make you feel... well, creepy right from the get-go. The story is pretty cool, though the Engrish could be a little better. Crank the volume on your stereo system and play it in a dark room. Had a lot of fun with this one.
As for finding it hard? It's actually one of the few games I've ever beat - EVER beat. I found it pretty easy, and I love the rush of "holy shit, I have to hurry up and get in the core before stuff blows up".
Tiger Road is garbage, however.

Hahaha, I love that feeling. You wouldn't expect a video game, especially one about 15 years old, to scare the shit out of you so much.
