Title: WTB: Duo-R
Post by: christoph on September 27, 2010, 02:31:56 PM
Looking to buy a loose Duo-R. If you see anything in my sale/trade thread, let me know - I'd buy one outright though. PM me.

Also looking for an AVE 3 controller.

I heard that the US version is the japanese 1 and 2 combined.  Someone correct me if im wrong.

Yeah, the Japanese R-Type was split in half basically, they released it across 2 cards. Levels 1 through 4 on card one and 5 through 8 on the second.  I always heard it was because of the card size/price. Two 2meg cards where cheaper or something.

When it came to the US levels 1-8 were all on a single 4meg Hu-Card.

Ahh, sweet.

Thanks for the info. So then I'm looking for a US R Type!

I got LOTS to trade, and of course will pay for it also!

Thanks!

My for sale thread is actually TOO BIG at the moment to put up here, so if you'd like to see it, you'll have to check it out over at Racketboy (thats where its the most up to date anyways):

There is an absurd amount of stuff in the thread..I know its a longshot..but if anyone sees enough to make a trade for a Duo-R, let me know too.

If you get desperate and decide to go with a standard US Duo.. I think henrycsc has a few repaired units he might be looking to trade / sell.  US duos are so slick lookin :P

Even after repaired, I though they were still terribly unreliable!?

As far as I can tell.. the major failure points are the lasers and the capacitors.  If you replace both of those with new items they should give a long service life!  I've only put a laser in mine and it works great!  I've got capacitors waiting until the day they start to fail.

I suspect Duo-Rs may have similar laser issues after a while too.

NES: Recca

In general the standard Duo is not very tolerant of reading any sort of CDR (example, Meteor Blaster DX or backups you make of your more expensive games) or scratched glass mastered disc. So keep that in mind when buying
