Hello everyone. I've got a new review video posted. This one is for Steel Empire for the Sega Genesis. You can check it out on my new website, TheAlfredEffect.com (http://www.thealfredeffect.com/). Enjoy!

I've a soft spot for Steel Empire. I really like the steampunky setting which makes a change from all those space based shooters that were around at the time.

Was that the game based on Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky?

I don't remember any specific similarities to Laputa, both have airships (although Laputa doesn't have Zeppelins) but that's about it. Been a while since I had a good go though.

I decided to Wikipedia it since I remember it being related.
"Japanese video game developer HOT-B began work on a video game adaptation of Laputa. The final product, released in Japan as Koutetsu Teikoku for the Sega Mega Drive video game console as a shoot 'em up, is very different to the source material. Some similarities with the film can be seen, in the aesthetic steampunk-esque designs of the game. The game was subsequently brought to western market in 1992 by Acclaim Entertainment's label Flying Edge under the title Empire of Steel in Europe and Steel Empire in the United States.[12]"

Interesting. I wonder if Miyazaki pulled the plug as he has stated in the past that there will never be video game adaptations of his movies (perhaps he was unimpressed with Riot's attempt at Future Boy Conan!).

He didn't own Future Boy Conan. Also I think there exists a few Lupin games, another Miyazaki related property in the same realm of Future Boy Conan in the sense that he contributed to some of it, but didn't create or own it.
I know there was a Nausicaa game for MSX that was apparently terrible that may have a lot to do with that too.
