Title: Karaoke on the Turbo?
Post by: chany60126 on October 12, 2010, 11:55:03 AM
I am pretty sure most of us who own a Turbo CD attachment and/or Turbo Duo know that we can play CD+G discs, the same format used for karaoke discs. I was just wondering if you guys know if we can somehow plug in a microphone into the system. Someone suggested that perhaps we could plug a mic into the headphone jack of the Turbo Duo with the help of a quarter inch adapter. But this has not been tested. Were there any PC Engine microphones made? It just seems a little perplexing that NEC would make their CD systems compatible with CD+G as this medium is only used in karaoke as far as I know.

It would be so awesome to take a break from an intense session of Gate of Thunder and start jammin out some tunes on the mic.  8)

The ROM ROM Amp did exactly this.

Came with speakers. Not that easy to find. Its pretty much the same as any other karaoke amp. There is nothing specifically PC Engine about it. Lots of systems have these kinds of add-ons.

Very cool. So, these things are pretty rare, if not extremely rare, but you could essentially buy any karaoke amp and use it on the Duo?

Yes. I own this and it's nothing special really, just a mere amp.
Mine is not boxed and i let one on a shelf in Akihabara back in 2006. It was in perfect condition and complete and only cost 4500 yens. It was just too heavy for me to bring it back and didn't have time to mail it.

Ignore that silly suggestion.  A headphone output is not interchangeable with a preamp input.

That's all the format is used for now, but it was originally intended to be 'music with pictures', much as the name implies.  If you look at all the original releases (linky (http://www.cdplusg.com/cdplusg/Main.html)), you won't find a single karaoke title.
