Title: Introducing myself
Post by: Starfighter on October 20, 2010, 02:41:01 AM
Well, as many of you probably have noticed - I'm a new face here and I haven't really introduced myself properly.

I am a 25 year old guy from Malmö, Sweden who's real name is Starfighter Johansson. I was a total video game-nerd as a kid because I didn't have so much friends and didn't have so many other interests. When I discovered the punk scene at 14 the only things I cared about were alcohol and records so I sold pretty much every game I had to afford booze and 7-inch vinyls. After a few years I picked up an insanely overprized NES for poops and giggles and became addicted again. Since then I have collected games with passion, first off I bought back all the great games I sold, then I went out on a hunt for every game I wanted as a kid but never could afford. And now I'm just getting games I stumble upon that seems good. I don't collect games for the collections sake, I just get games I really want and don't care about complete sets of a consoles game library etc. But the collection is still pretty big (and always growing) with 30+ consoles and 500+ games.

I don't have a favorite console (allthough I'm very fond of my PC Engine right now) but the genres I generally prefer are platform, survival horror, puzzle and shoot 'em up.

I play guitar, bass and have the basics down in drums and the music I play - and listen to - is still punk. The angry stuff, mostly with d-beat in it. I have a thing for body modifications such as piercings, tattoos, scarrification and what have you - allthough I don't have so much of it myself apart from seven tattoos and a few face piercings (I have had them on other places as well but they're all gone today). I hate sports in real life and also in most video games, and I really hate sci-fi. The closest I get to that genre is the occasional shooter with sci-fi-theme. :)

I live in an apartment with my girlfriend and we have been together now for almost four years and the stuff we have in common is video games (yaay), dreadlocks and a kind of anarchistic view on the world, I guess you could say. I don't have a job but I have a "praktik", the translator said "work experience" so it's like.. you know, I work for no pay and instead get experience. At a library - and I love it. I like to organize shelves and input codes into systems.

I probably sound really egocentric talking so much about myself but I have a break at work now and don't have much else to do. :) Pictures of me, my collection and other random stuff is coming when I get home tonight.

You all seem to be cool (and somewhat kind ;)) persons so I'm looking forward to becoming an active part of your forum.

The games.. And some records, movies and what not. But mainly games.

Welcome aboard. I wonder if we can ever convince you to do some arrangements of PC Engine music some day... :)

It's very nice to meet you!  I'm mostly a metal head, but I have very wide range of musical interests.  Some punk I do like are Subhumans, Crass, GBH, Black Flag, and Bad Brains.

I mostly listen to all metal minus Nu Metal.  I'm a huge Frank Zappa and David Lee Roth fan, however I don't care for Van Halen.  My favorite music is the Mats/Morgan band from Umea.  Morgan Agren is a huge influence on me being a drummer myself.

It's nice you already built up your game collection again.  If you're a shoot em up fan I would seriously recommend a Sega Saturn if you don't have one already.  Tons of nice shooters and other games to be had on that system.  Again it's nice to meet you! :D

Hi geise! Cool, I also like those bands (at least the punk-ones :D) and yes, I already have Sega Saturn. I have *deep breath* NES, SNES, GG, GBC, GBP, GBA, NDS, N64, GC, Wii, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox, 360, Master System, MD (Genesis), Saturn, Dreamcast, Treamcast (!), Fairchild, C64, PC Engine, a few I forgot and a lot of doubles. :) I got both Saturn and PC Engine mostly for the shooters but I can swim in different waters as well!

Welcome aboard. :) The closest to punk that I listen to is live Who from '69-'71. They made the loudest noise on the planet!

I've never heard them! Strange since I have heard OF them quite a lot.

Edit: I uploaded some pictures to the first post!

Here ya go! The Who Live at the Isle of Wight in August of 1970. This was England's answer to Woodstock.

Make sure to catch the jam session during the second half of this song.

I was supposed to go see Roger Waters in Columbus, OH tomorrow, but that's not going to happen now unfortunately. Ever since Waters left the Floyd they haven't been the same band. That is until the Live 8 reunion back in 2005.

Welcome to the forums man!
Any time people post up a room devoted for a vidgame/movie collection, i get damn jealous! so lucky to have that kind of real estate for your hobbies

Anyways, just curious....do you hate Sci-Fi because of your 1st name?..... 8-[
(The Last StarFighter just happens to be one of my absolute favourite movies...)

Thanks! It's our livingroom so it's not quite devoted fully to games. We have our tv-setup there as well! ;) (We have a big HDTV, a small HDTV and a CRT-TV hooked up next to each other. I want a fourth one I can put in TATE-mode but that'll have to wait..)

Actually I don't REALLY hate sci-fi, I just find it boring (I like bullets and red blood, not lasers and green acid for example) but when I'm being washed with wave after wave of sci-fi-related movies, games and magazines I tend to be more aggressive in my choice of words. :D I love a childrens show called Kenny Starfighter, it's about a "intergalactic spacepolice" who fail at everything - looks like a cheesy cheese, have a hairminator, is best friends with a washing machine, drinks gasoline, says "say what?" after everything as if he never listens and I could go on and on about his greatness.

So, people started calling me Robin Starfighter and then I switched my first name (Robin) to Starfighter for real and now I'm living the hard intergalactic police-life allthough I'm not particularly fond of neither space nor the police. O:)

Edit: I found a clip where they put together a few of his "what did you say?". <3

roger didn't a well job after separating. gilmour (which I also like approx. 101 times more) in contrary did it much better. sure not at least because the other two remaining members). anyhow, PF was never the same again after separation. and they were best between 69~79.

The Live at Pompeii era Floyd was a killer band. But, The Wall was the first hard rock I ever heard as a child, and it will always have an effect on me.

I probably would have at least found it interesting. I give these old rockers a lot of leeway.
