Got a couple of games in the mail today. One of them is Uuchu Senkaan Yamato. Seems like a really cool game, but I can't figure out how to save! Anybody else have this? I assume it's one of the crew stations but I haven't had any luck finding it yet.
-
I saved, but dont remember how, since it was 3 weeksish ago.
If noone else chimes in, a bit later today Ill go fire it up. Im eating and doing some stuff atm... but I will check!
-
Actually, the game saves automatically when you clear a scenario. This is the game I enjoyed the most last year : it's a very unknown but yet great game.
-
I might have to pick this one up if it's actually good. I can be had for pretty cheap.
-
It's not always beautiful but for those who love space opera animes such as Yamato, Robotech, Gundam, etc...this is great stuff as you play as the captain of the ship. The musics are directly taken from the anime.
-
Wow that's really unusual for such an old game. Thanks a lot.
Yes seems like a really enjoyable game if the idea of a real time ship captaining sim appeals to you. I was expecting a turn based Hex game like Human's other game Vasteel, but was pleasantly surprised. The cinemas are pretty well done too, a lot of full screen animation.
IIRC I got mine for like $10 on Hit-Japan

I got mine from hit Japan too. To be honest, I didnt' know what to expect at all when I first got the game as the screens on the back cover don't tell you much about the game but I can now say it's one of my favourite games ever!
-
I got mine for 8ish off HitJapan.
and, yeah its a really greatly done game.
I play a Starblazers tabletop game, so this is awesome to play also. :D

What system for the tabletop game and when and where do you play?

Its a modified version of a TSR hex-based space battle game. I cant remember the name of the base rules, but I could find out from my friend.
We played it at Nowscon, I dunno if you go to that or anything.

I haven't been to any cons here in NEO. I've been to Origins a few times, though. I wonder if Buck Rogers was hex-based...

Anybody know what the win condition is for the 2nd mission? I took out all enemies but then just got a screen of the captain looking sad and back to the menu :(
-
If I remember right, you have to warp from the green point that's on the top left corner of the screen, making sure that you keep enough energy for the warp to be doable. It's a pretty tough mission at first but I loved it as it's very stressing.
So you must :
-head to the warping point
-make sure you save energy (by not using your weapons too often for instance)
-
Ah Thank you very much. I just assumed I needed to wipe out the enemies Do you know if using fighters drains energy? Yes it's a really fun mission in terms of combat.
-
Using fighters doesn't drain energy. Energy is drained by the ship's weapons and by repairing damages.
-
Hey, did you manage to clear that scenario?
-
I've been too busy playing Rondo of blood. I'll go back to it soon. :)

That was always my problem with this game! I f*cking love Yamato, and 70s anime in general, and I loved this game until I was pretty much instantly stuck on end of the 2nd mission.
I didn't realize energy was a factor. Now I can start playing this game again (I've had it since the mid 90s).
