My copy of Dracula X finally arrived (sent the day of the Tsunami no less). The game absolutely lives up to it's legend. Worth every penny.
-
:D Nice one! How much did you get it for?
I can't wait to get into CD games (once I get the hardware), even though I'm a little worried about fakes.
Rondo of Blood is on my small list along with Pomping World, Rainbow Islands and Spriggan.
*edit* also, I'm a big fan of the NES Castlevania games (although they're very hard) - how does this version compare to those? Never played the SNES one.
-
Enjoy!

Congrats and have fun, S.M.R. 8)

You needn't worry about bootlegs, soop. The only ones that have surfaced are for Sapphire and Space Fantasy Zone; the former is easily spotted and available for free from Bimmer, and the latter doesn't exist as a real commercial release anyway.

Really? Yeah I was reading about the Sapphire one, but I assumed that if they copied that game, they'd copy other games too. CD Denjin isn't cheap, and neither is Rondo of Blood.
Ah well, you've perked me up :D

There are a few HuCard boots (http://www.videogameden.com/vgden_pi.htm), but they're easy enough to spot.
-
I paid a bit more than I should have because I didn't know Game of Japan's inventory and prices were different from what the same store puts on ebay as Hit-Japan. I paid around $90 IIRC. Still it was well worth the price.
Interesting I didn't know about the PCE bootleg problem. Just stick to buying from reputable shops.

This game is quite a bit easier than the NES Castlevania 1 and 3. As Richter it's definitely harder than Super Castlevania 4 or Bloodlines on Genesis, but easier than CV 1 or 3 on NES.
As Maria the game becomes a bit of a breeze.
-
The feel of the game is very much like the NES ones, but with an incredibly polished presentation. The menu music gave me chills.

It's not really a problem, as they don't turn up often and they're easy to spot.
-
Congrats on your purchase! This is one of my favorite from the series. Plays in the line of the NES/SNES versions, and I love it! I THINK I paid 85.00 or 90.00, I cannot remember exactly, but it was in line with what its going for. Hang onto this one, and dont be like me and sell it a year or so later. The one I just price quoted is my second copy, which I plan on keeping this time around.

Yea they look to be lower. Probably because they don't have to pay all those insane ebay fees. Which I heard just got worse for sellers.
Have fun with the game. It has a lot of replay value for a 2D side scroller.

one of the best games ever. period.
-
It's a decent game. You'll probably have a few moments of joy with it.
:)
-
I played it for the first time a few months back. I paid $80 for mine. Anyway I don't even typically like those type of games and I thought it was fan-freakin-tastic. One I'll play through again and again. It's worth playing just to hear the music scores.

It is a little overhyped :-s But still amazing. :^o

The game really opens up once you start finding the branching paths.
-
lol, how can a game like drac x be overhyped? it's a perfect as possible game for its time.

Yeah I agree. Faussete Amour is a little overhyped, Dracula X is the best example of it's genre from the period. The branching paths are really cool.

The thing is...I looked at all the secrets before playing the game.
It all ruined it for me.
-
Just give it another year or two and play it again. It'll seem new again :D

that's your own personal fault. but then, don't blame the game for that ;)
-
Yeah, I thought it was a but over-hyped too. At first. DON'T GET RID OF IT! Do what these guys are saying and give it a year or two. It WILL sneak its way in and overwhelm you with awesomeness. :)
-
I must be glad hat I had played that one when internetz & co. was still away from most of the peeps.
-
Having cleared it it was one of the most fun times I've had in recently. And probably the most fun Castlevania game I've played save for Simon's Quest.
