Title: Beginning to question whether I really need an LT
Post by: soop on March 22, 2011, 06:22:03 AM
Right, now my thing is collecting boxed PC Engines.  I want them all (all the Japanese ones, and not the spin-offs, like the monitor or the Laserdisc module).  And the holy grail of this is obviously a boxed LT.

But right now, I'm thinking, do I really want one?  Would I use it?  And more importantly, what if it breaks?

Obviously I want one, but I already have an LT.  And while I'm not averse to taking my PSP or DS out (or my phone), I'm not sure I'd be comfortable taking an LT out.

But most worrying, is the fact that as they get older, the more likely they are to break.  I could easily end up with £600+ worth of junk, and that wouldn't make me happy at all.

Any LT owners have any LT related experience?

Nobody needs an LT, boxed or not.  They're neat for a collection but entirely impractical for actual use.

Spend that £600 on games!

Plus they have PSP emulators for the turbografx and pc engine right?

Yes.

And, to avoid any pain in the future, please box up your existing LT and send it to New Jersey (I'll pay postage and insurance).

It is a burden, I know, but I will gladly help you in your time of need. :)

Thank you.

What?! No Pioneer PAC-N1?!?  [-(

Somebody confirm this for me: the LT doesn't even use batteries, right?  So you can't even take it out per se, without carrying a clunky AC adaptor with you wherever you go.

that sounds correct to me. Based on a much smaller screened Turbo Express, if it was battery powered, 6 AA's would last about 20 minutes.

I have to ask, and I'm not trying to put down your collection soop, but what is the appeal of collecting boxed systems? Backup systems? If it's for display, wouldn't a loose system be better because you can actually look at it?

It sounds like Soop meant he already has a GT and is questioning buying a LT. That makes more sense. If someone already had a LT and wanted to buy a second boxed one, money isn't probably a big concern for them and they wouldn't be asking advice on a forum.
If thats not the case, please buy the boxed one and sell that LT to me cheap, it's just going to break sooner than later anyways

The Laseractive is the TG16 on Steroids.  It will make playing on a normal TG16 feel like you are with your less fulfilling mistress.

I don't know, it just makes me happy!
I have a boxed Supergrafx, Shuttle, Core Grafx, GT, and unboxed Core II and PCE.  I just love them :(

Hey, fair enough. If I had the money I'd probably do it too.

That's the most awesome pointlessness ever Tats.

At home, this setup is, indeed, pointless.

But, at gaming convention/country fair/farmer's market that lacks adequate electrical receptacles, Tatsujin has the solution! Plus, you don't have to lug around a heavy monitor. :)

Do you know how desperately I would love to combine the local farmer's market with PCE gaming?

'TWOULD BE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Unfortunately this selfmade accu-pack was thrown away already many years ago, but I have fond memories of some good fun playing 5P bomberman ('93) in pubs and restaurants :)

Tatsujin, why don't you live here in the States? Specifically, New Jersey?

We could have played MotoRoader (MC) at each and every (of the many) diners here. It would have been awesome.

I had to mention diners because they are "Americana". And I love coffee + onion rings.

agree with this.

and £600 is too much for a boxed LT, well maybe that amount was right prior a few years ago but the price seems to have gone down on LTs over the last few years.
nowadays for £600 I would expect a uber mint boxed one.

or pick up this one for £1,099.99 its only been on ebay constantly relisted for about the last three years...  :D
