Title: What's up with this pad?!
Post by: soop on April 06, 2011, 11:00:23 PM

It has a 9 pin d-sub port in it...

Hmmm... So you can hook up your Sega Genesis / Mega Drive controller?

What the hell?!?  Is that a headphone jack on the bottom?

Huh, I though it was some random screw...  Do the ports outpout sound in the first place?

It looks home-made anyway...

I queried the seller but he didn't know what they're for.

according to him they're all pl-pd8's anyway!

Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if it was for plugging a home made stick into it (ie: rather than sacrifice a pad for the PCB, keep it functional and usable).

Not sure about the think that looks like a headphone jack though. It would be nice if the guy would open it up.

This one definitely has a headphone jack on the bottom!

Yeah, but that's a FC controller, isn't it? "Joy Card" or some shit?

Why would anyone plug their headphones into their controller ?

Wouldn't it very easily rip the cord during operation /a round of Tatsujin ?

I was thinking about doing this with a pad actually. You could hack the controller for use in a cab or diy joystick box and then still use it in the system. If you do this with multiple systems you could just quickly connect them with a DIN cable

I can't think of a better place.

Maybe if you are some kind of wild animal with no self control, but if are at least responsible/sane enough to, say, hold down a job at Taco Bell, I think one's headphone cables would survive.

Or, you could hack one controller from each of the 'older' systems like this, and build an arcade-style joystick that had a db9 for the connector. Then you could use it on any of your other systems, by plugging it into the hacked controllers :-)

[ I think that's what elabit was trying to say....]

I have a Elecom JC100 JOYCARD for MSX.  Two of em actually.

They're pretty nice little f*ckers. but the cord comes out the left side, so that is retarded.

It used to be a NES controller but now it is a fully functional Turbo Duo/PCE controller with headphone jack and custom "Bee-otch" label.

Kickass Famicom controller!

3DO controllers have a headphone jack too. I always thought that was nifty, even if it is dorky!

It used to be a NES controller but now it is a fully functional Turbo Duo/PCE controller with headphone jack and custom "Bee-otch" label.

So, it does pass audio somehow through the controller?  Sounds like an opportunity to combine a virtual cushion with a turbo pad and make a Turbo-rumble Pad!

By the way...  the pad is one honest to goodness RAGS - to - RICHES story!  Sweet Bee-Otch!

The audio goes through the controller as if it were a headphone jack extension cord.

Turbo rumble cushion would be awesome!

Here's another weird one; http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/133996915

Apparantly that's a PL-PD 001.  I don't know if that's just the original PCE model (it's not marked on the controller) or whether this is a prototype.

PI-PD001 is just the white one without turbo that came with the original white pce

Right, I see.  At least putting it into that context, the PL-PD3 makes sense.  The PL-PD8 still doesn't :/
No they still don't make sense, and I don't want to think about it any more!

Its definitely a pass through and it works.

The headphone jack on the other hand, does not work.

I wonder if its really a link port so I can hook my sgfx up to an Express and play gimpy two player disasters. lol.

If that is the case, f*ck YES.

If not, i just spent 30$ on a pad with a feature I don't want.

who needs sega pads when you have duo pads.   Thats like sitting on a lawn chair instead of a leather sofa.

Hi Arkhan

When you say "pass through" do you mean to connect a MegaDrive/GEnesis pad or is it just a link port for another PCE controller?

Just curious ;-)

I'm assuming so.  One feature MAY be the use of a decent, cheap 6 button stick, but I'm not sure if/how that would work

pass through with a DB9, which is the atari 2600/sega genesis/sms/c64/amiga/etc connector

I tested it.  I used a 6 button sega controller.

so thats cool, I suppose.

I still need to figure out what/how the bottom port works.

Nice!  you could just take it apart and see where it's wired - should only be 6 phillips screws.

Kick-ass.

Well, it probably wasn't done so that the guy could use shitty OEM Sega pads. It was probably done to accommodate some sort of arcade stick, possibly home made.
