HAHAHA, a downgrade to no avail.
poor CORE GRAFX though.
But those were the old days of RF and crap.
And why it doesnt work, I most probably guess because due to the reason that this one is NOT only a RF mod, but a PAL RF mod :!:
That was very common back in the late 80s early 90s to sell the systems in europe and china.
-
#-o Maybe send it to Duo_R or chop5 or someone for an re-upgrade?
-
Could you take a picture of the inside? I could probably resolder a port on it if all the components are still there.
-
Yeah, basically you only have to throw out all the PAL RF modulator crap and wires and put back the original DIN connector to its original place.
As long the modder didn't f*ck up other parts inside.
-
I can definitely solder on a new din port. Just pm me if you want me to.
-
Please note that usually the PAL standard is connected with a 50 Hz Framerate.
I never saw a 60 Hz PAL modded console so far.
If this is the case with your friends CoreGrafx it could be quite a bit more than just re-soldering the AV DIN-Port
-
whos he buy it from? Find out if the seller is the modder, and if so, punch in face.
-
A few years ago I traded someone on here (I forgot who!) a nice original Coregrafx I for a PAL unit. I just wanted to see what was inside it. There was an RF unit, but attached to it was a custom PCB featuring a CXA1145, which is the video encoder that was used in the Genesis/Megadrive, Amiga, etc.
You should be able to remove all this and solder a DIN socket back in, but if I remember there was a missing capacitor or two, and maybe some other components missing. I don't remember how the 50/60hz was dealt with though.
-
Probably from Hong Kong. Hong Kong used to be a colony of the British Empire so uses our UK PAL standard.
That's why you often see what appears to be PAL Jpn Megadrives, they're actually Hong Kong Megadrives.
:D

That there is also an unofficial (pirate?) PCE controller...
-
ahh makes sense now as just saw your other thead "My friend is off to Shanghai... "

HardcoreOtaku---> 2 unrelated threads there believe it or not :)
Thanks guys... so there is hope, i will talk with me friend and will shoot a PM to chops as i was hoping to send a couple other things to him to work on as well.
cornacchia---> thanks so much for the offer to help, i will pm you as well :)
Ark---> he got this at a thrift store so maybe be can go back & give the shop keeper a kick in the nuts and then he can pass it onto the guy that sold it to him, but for $5 i guess it can be a light kick.

GAH!!!
-
I'm impressed!
-
That looks exactly like the one I had. The PCBs are professionally made, so it's likely there are a lot of those things out there.
-

Twice a day!!!
-
so is that an expert mod job or a piss assed mod job?
-
Its totally pro.
-
I picked up a Super Famicom a while back that had a similar PAL mod. I will have to dig it out and take a pic.
-
Could that be a Sodipeng unit or did they only sell RGB modded units? That doesn't look at all like a Sodipad, though, unless they made more than one style; the one I've seen looks like a UK TG pad was mended with duct tape after losing a fight with a blender.
-
That unit needs to be re-upgraded.
Especially considering this unit outputs static.
