Title: TURBO DUO AND MUSIC CD'S?
Post by: Blasta_Mazta on August 31, 2005, 11:11:53 AM
i never played the turbo duo but i remember a friend a mine telling me that the console he was playing allowed him to play an audio cd in the system, replacing the music of the game WITH THE MUSIC ON THE CD. i remember how he was saying it, had me thinking ' i gotta get me turbo duo!' was it the Turbo duo which allowed gamers to do that? wait, i think it was turbo cd. i dunno, lemme know.

Not sure.  It is true that you can open a Turbo Duo CD player during gameplay and remove the CD while the game is playing.  Of course you lose the game redbook audio, but whether or not the new music CD is playable I don't know.

that's strange. i have a great memory. he had told me this specifically and i was blown away by it. i was always had the belief that one of the turbo systems allowed one to do this. was i wrong all this time?

It depends on the game. If the entire game is loaded into memory and never has to read data from the disc again, then yes...this can be done because the CD drive will reseek when it needs to play a new audio track...it doesn't care if the disc is the same or not. :) But if it needs to load data, then obviously this can't be done...and almost all games on the TGCD have to read additional data...that's one of the purposes of the technology in the first place...

he didn't do anything funky with the system. he wasn't one a them wiz kids. the way he explained it was like it was a part of the system. so no turbo system has to cd compartments? what if it's a hu card game?

and nodvedeit, can u please get rid of that picture, it looks like a molested child.

Yeah dude you just insulted Cosmic Fantasy.

*says "Get em'!!" like Method Man in How High.*

I've played the album "Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Blackstar" in my PC Engine Duo-R while cleaning my room once.

yea, but noone is answering my question, not in any kind of depth. i don't mean simply playing a cd in the console. i have a stereo, so that would be pointless. i mean playing the cd in the system while i'm playing a game, thus replacing the music(not the sound effects) of the game. someone specifically told me they did that, and i knew the person and i don't believe he would make it up.

and about turbografx prise, i love turbografx, but that image IS what it IS. it's that simple. it honestly disgusts me to no end.

That wouldn't work either because if you turn on the game with a Hu Card in the slot (unless its one of the "System Cards) then the CD-Rom never boots up....

and so it appears no system to date is able to do this. how ironic if i were to run into the kid who told me about this. of course, he'd say he doesn't know what i'm talking about and that he has no interest in turbo grafx. but until now, i was always under the impression that one of the turbo grafx systems, whether it be the cd, express or duo, allowed the gamer to play a game while listening to whatever music they wanted.

man, i remember it specifically!

I remember it too- in fact I did it a few weeks ago... on the Xbox- you can copy a cd to the harddrive.  I can see how you got the NEC and Microsoft systems confused... or maybe the kid who did this looked like a molested child.

the kid told me this back in 91', 92', so i don't believe it was x-box, as they did not have a system back then. no, he didn't look like a molested child either, he was a cool kid.

In answer to your original question, you can do exactly what you are describing with some Playstation games. Ridge Racer would be an example of such a game.  Are you sure it wasn't Playstation your molested child friend had?

Edit: On a side note, in the game CD Battle for PC Engine you open the lid and place a regular cd in which, depending on the cd, changes your battle characters stats and such. Many more games like this would come out later for the Playstation also.

THAT'S PROBLY WHY YOU FAGS ARE INTO ANIME, YOU PROBLY ALL  love the idea of children being molested. all those charactors look like michael jackson as it is, where's their nose?

AND LIKE I REALLY WANNA PLAY  RIDGE RACER!

and to make jokes when you could have simply honelst answered my question. and why? because i want to use the option to shut off the music means i don't like turbografx music?

I think you just have a hard time understanding us and not realizing what we're actually trying to say. We're not trying to make our posts sound like they are discriminating in any sort of way, especially the sarcastic ones.

awwww, I sure am sorry you couldn't stay for a while. :(  Really if your taking life that serious....your living tooooo hard. I warned you of our humor around here and while I hate to see that it didn't work out for you (seriously) its probably better that you didn't stay. I mean I wouldn't want to see you coming into one of these threads packing heat and then someone would mess around and get shot (that part....a joke...see).

We didn't start the whole "molested child" line of jokes, thats all on you.

Also again, I think your question was answered seriously, atleast once and reinforced several times by other comments...your insistence that we were all in someway wrong really allowed this thread to get to the point its has gotten too....So there is really no need for the overreaction and name calling...I mean some people get very insulted by name calling. I recall in another thread that a guy, cant remember who it was, got very upset because someone was calling him names   .

We all don't hate you, and don't take any of the sarcasm to heart. This forum is not meant for insulting other members. It's just impolite when you told Nod to remove his avatar only because you dislike the picture. This is an informal message board, where everyone can be themselves and discuss anything pce/tg16 related. But please, if you have something personal about a member then settle it outside with PM or email.

??? The term "liberal humour" is off-base and doesn't make any sense. As for the rest of your post: your homophobic fantasies and hate speech are not welcome here.  Please act like an 8 year old, at least,  and show some common courtesy.

And to think, this all began because of your perversions.  You saw nodtveidt's avatar and created your own fantasy from it -- for you, it was an image of a child being molested. I am sorry you see things that way, but your obsession with child porn and homophobia are not welcome here.

I answered your question from a very technical viewpoint...is that what you can't understand? I'll put it in layman's terms then...

If all the game does is change soundtracks, then sure, switch discs after it loads and it'll play your own music CD instead of the CDROM tracks. Unfortunately, I can only think of one game that does this, and it's a game made by GravisZero that's freely downloadable from zeograd.com.

Better? :D

What you're talking about is pretty much impossible on the TG-CD...all games (except the previously mentioned game by GravisZero) take advantage of the additional storage capacity of the CDROM format, but they can't load the entire disc into memory at once so they only have small portions loaded at once. The CD audio tracks for that game are stored on the same disc, so when the game isn't loading data, it's playing a CD audio track. If you were to switch discs...yeah, music might play, but the next time the game had to load data...it would fail because the data isn't on your audio disc. So in essence...no, what you're talking about isn't reasonably possible to do and I don't give a rat what this "kid" said because he was obviously deluded and/or a liar.

And on a personal note...I think you're one of the biggest whackjobs I've ever encountered on a forum, and I've been on at least 30 forums in the last 10 years. You've got some serious screws loose...I think you need to find yourself a really large screwdriver.

HEY, I think we are all being a little bit hard one this guy. I mean its not bad enough that he had a friend who spent one to many nights at Neverland Ranch if you know what I mean....but....The Guy also had to Eat the Bonk....I mean this going on about it just isn't funny.... OK so maybe its alittle funny...

[EDIT] But seriously, if everyone on these boards got as easily offened as you, then everyone would leave. Just ask Messiah Mike (anyone who gets that joke, you ROCK). This isn't a place for the easily offened. So again I reinforce my statement that I am sorry that our fine forum didnt work out for you. But, that being said, anyone who can openly insult Cosmic Fantasy (well other than to complain about how the game can be a tedious level grind at times) has to understand that they opened themselves up for a little ridicule. :D ....cookies sometimes crumble, thats just the way it is....  :(

Kabuki Den lets you swap a music CD and play it while leveling up on the world map.

Just swap discs and then press Select + II.

It'll play the same track #.

You can get a lot of other games to do basically the same thing by swapping discs before a change in music(but not a data load).

I used to do this all the time with Sonic CD in my CDX.
