Title: Military Madness prototype on ebay !
Post by: lkermel on April 12, 2011, 06:01:07 AM
Maybe someone has already posted this, but I wanted to share it with you. We don't see this kind of auction every day !

Military Madness Pre-Release, TurboGrafx-16 (http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-Military-Madness-Pre-Release-TurboGrafx-16_W0QQitemZ280657692047QQcategoryZ139973QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8406632941134781179)

I hope this proto will find a good home :)

I wonder of the current crop of TG-16 noobs with big credit cards on eBay will actually be interested in this. If they are, its going to hit $2000 easy, but I wonder if they even have a clue how significant this is.

Post by: lkermel on April 12, 2011, 06:10:05 AM
Yeah, this is a significant find, and I wish I could bid on it, but the final price is going to be in the hundreds, or even thousands as you said. Can't really afford that. It hasn't reached the reserve yet, but there's still five days to go. What a nice piece of TG16 history.

I know people who payed so little attention to the TG-16 that they can't remember any of the games that came out for it...except Military Madness. Everybody loved this game.

It'll be cool to see the differences (if any) between the finished product and this prototype here?
Title: Re: Military Madness prototype on ebay !
Post by: Necromancer on April 12, 2011, 12:36:09 PM
It's neato but not really worth the big bucks; after comparing it to the finished game, it wouldn't be useful for much else.

If he does it will never see the light of day here. I guarantee it.

And no, it's not worth very much.

He usually makes short write-ups covering such goodies; and while I'd sure like to see tons more from them, it's better than nothing.

I really hope someone from the PCE/TG16 community wins this one. But I'm sure the bidding will go much higher than that. Yo yo  turbogrfxfan ! Hope you win that awesoooome piece of history !!!

As a side note, blueraven, I think Thibaut has always been generous about sharing his finds with the community - all the awesome write-ups from Nekofan are proofs of that. So if he ever wins this one, then I am pretty sure he will do the same :)

Interesting to see items like this for sale.

I played the Japanese Nectaris and US MM extensively; they are truly identical...

Unfortunately, concerning the "pre-release": I doubt there are ANY differences outside of text translations.

I hope I'm wrong, but I put my accuracy at 99.99%

;)

Hold on I have just checked with my bank and allthougth my blalance has a 6 in it is is not 6000,  it is more like $6 ;-)

My sarcasm went unnoticed?  $200 is honestly what I would value this at!

Other system review copies sell all the time in the $100-$150 range.

Me too, but there there are a lot of NEC related things I'd rather have than Magical Chase, many of them cost less than $10.

The auction ended at $1,580 !!!
I wonder if the seller has a couple more (different titles) he might auction off. Personally I think that's crazy high price! OK, so who bought?

I'm surprised that not one else noticed that this was being sold by former Turbo Play Magazine publisher Lee Pappas.  It's even mentioned briefly and a picture shown in this interview with TBD:

http://www.thebrothersduomazov.com/2009/09/powerful-champions-of-turbo-literature.html

So that kind of gives it an extra little bit of coolness.  Too bad it went to someone seemingly outside of the community.

that article is so interseting! The Woz wanted and got a Game Express back in the day! and WTF Axel Rose!? hehe

anyways it's kewl that the seller was a guy that had great contribution to the TG16 community back in the day and I am glad a buyer was willing to pay good money for it.

I wonder if the original artwork for Military Madness and the mint boxed TG16 and PC Engines mentioned in the article will be going on ebay next!?

Yeah well looks like I didn't win lol. I felt it was going to stay around five six hundred or it was going to jump like it did. I just hope it goes to the right place. The sold price was way high imo. Its just the times like when my grandfather used to say "I bought that for a nickel".....  Its just what things sell for now and I guess I don't wAnt to accept it or just don't realize how much time has gone by

Pretty cool item and a very strong price.  I would have loved to have it, but couldn't justify anything even close to that.  I wonder what the max bid was on that prototype? Looks like the buyer wanted it BAD!

Yeah, but compared to a $500 Dynastic Hero or a $250 Soldier Blade, its a f*cking steal.

I noticed that the seller was Lee Pappas, however I missed that there was a snap of the game in his article.  Great heads up there :-)

$1,580 ..... Sure is a nice price!  I was expecting it to hit around $600

Yeah, I totally missed that article too. I'm not surprised if it went for $1,580 - it is an unique piece of TG16 history, and this kind of find just doesn't compare (I think) to commercial prints such as Magical Chase. I only hope it found a good home :)

Lee Pappas had a Military Madness/Nectaris fansite a long time ago. He took screenshots the old-skool way, with a camera, then scanned the photographs in (like I said, old skool).

Still, I can't believe the item sold for so much money. Totally not worth it, IMO.

I suppose we should keep an eye on his future auctions, though. :)

This one is missing the OMG R4R3 L@@K!!1! plastic eeprom cover, so I say it'll only fetch $1572.

Except his uncle didn't even get it until 1993, which means HE didn't actually get it until that year or later. Assuming he got it later that same year, then yeah, he must have played it continuously 1993-1995.

This one ended right at its reserve price of $1000, and while that's a damn sight more reasonable than the last one, it's still one too many zeros for me.

None that was it. Im still trying to catch up with my buddy, he said he searched his moms attic for my console and the rest of the games including the Bomber Man prerelease. Im bummed because i sold him my console plus games for like $40 then threw in the BM as a gift. he wasn't allowed to sell them to anyone but me but now they are supposedly missing or destroyed.

And lol at the comments, yes i played the crap out of it for about 1-2 years i loved that game but then moved on to new consoles and packed it away. I wish i kept it all but sadly i didnt just the last proto of MM, i still want it back. But it sold to a major TG-16 fan and he will add it to his museum.

Bomberman pre-release would surely catch more $ than Military Madness.

How did you acquire these items?
Title: Re: Military Madness prototype on ebay !
Post by: Pizza Boy on August 05, 2011, 06:59:00 AM
My uncle knew a programmer for NEC, i actually live between two of NEC's facilities. From what I was told and remember my uncle did work for the guy and was given the games as a sort of trade. THe games were never supposed to leave the factory and were supposed to be destroyed but some programmers were allowed to keep a copy or two under the pretense that hey were never to be given/sold to anyone else. My uncle gave me the games about 20 years ago and i played them for about 2 years before boxing them up and storing them. Then a year or two ago i sold th console and games to my wifes friend who was also a buddy to me and i threw in the Bomber Man for free thinking it couldnt be worth much.

Lucky man, my uncle's friends were all just druggies and in biker gangs.

Good luck finding the Bomberman proto.  I won't be buying it, too much money, but I would like to see it.  I wonder if there are any differences from the final release?
