Sorry if this is a repost. Have you heard of the home made clone? your thoughts? check the link ---> http://www.geek.com/articles/games/turbografx-16-console-cloned-on-an-fpga-20110416/

Pretty impressive that someone was able to do this, but the hardware alone cost $160. I can only imagine the number of hours he's put into this to get basically an emulator without sound...
If he could make something like those little devices that looked like Atari 2600 but included something like 20 games and be able to sell them for $30 or $40, I'd be all over it.

This is called mass production.

Thank you, Captain Obvious.
I'd still be all over it. :p

Sure, who wouldn't be? :p

I actually think its very cool!!!! I think its awesome that he made it from scratch. Hopefully he will get the sound workin. Thats a killer project........ I would like to make my own for fun.  very sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
is there a kit I could buy with instructions?
-
Perhaps he just needs Chop5 or BlueBMW to change his caps out. :P
-
Like others said: I'm really impressed! It a piece that I'd like to own. Thanks for the link.

Unless you're no uberpro in FPGA programming, to own such a kit wouldn't give you much sense. OR, are you an uberpro in FPGA programming? :P

Here is another video from the same guy. In this video you can actually see the console a lot more clearly. It looks KEWL with the plexiglass and l.e.d. lights. ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVt4fZFnMpw
His youtube channel is called Torlus , link here ---> http://www.youtube.com/user/Torlus That's a way to message him directly if you have questions.
I would totally buy one at the right price. I wonder what kind of modern day controllers and joysticks could be used on this? I'm sure a clear controller with more internal l.e.d. lights would match well.
-
Good ol' Torlus. :D
I remember when he first started that thing lol.
he hangs out on IRC. I scream at him occasionally. Hes good peeps.
-
awesome man thnx so much for putting it up!!
-
Neat stuff. Hopefully he'll get it working perfectly one day and some company will buy his code to crank out some nice clones.... and I'll win the lottery. A guy can dream, right?
-
What would be even cooler is to use this as a basis for a new all-in-one machine with modern CDROM drives. :)
-
Yep, and with SGX and Arcade Card support.
-
It would be nice to have a company buy his project and create clones. I would buy for sure.

Not to mention a region mod to play US and Japanese HuCards.....
