WTF IGN's latest gamescoop called Simons quest the best castlevania after SOTN... never mind that Rondo of blood is best, as AVGN pointed out Simon's quest was a buggy half baked piece of crap.
-
Simon's Quest isnt that bad but you have to remember that Rondo of Blood was only released in Japan. IGN is probably only basing on US releases?
-
Stupid IGN.
Should have been first :D

Disclaimer: I have not, nor will I, listen to an IGN podcast... (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcds.png)
Simon's Quest was/is a great game (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)
It's legacy was diminished/destroyed with all the rehashed GBA+ stuff.
At the time Simon's Quest came out, I can't tell you how awesome it was to play. It was a breath of fresh air (and I thoroughly enjoyed the original game) to be able to delve into Castlevania's universe. I think Castlevania III on NES was great, too.
Simon's Quest/Castlevania III on NES were better, more exhilarating games for me than Symphony of the Night (PS). Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Symphony of the Night, but I feel that folks who actually played the NES installments were less likely to have an orgasm over SotN. At least, that's how I feel.
WORD UP.

Who cares what IGN says?
This sort or ranking is pointless anyway. There needs to be a "best of" for the traditional games and one for the Metroidvanias. Obviously Rondo is the best of the traditional games. I don't really have an opinion about the later games, even though I have completed about half of them at this point.

Simons Quest is good but it still pales in Caparison to Castlevania 3 and Rondo of Blood
-
While I remember Liking some aspects of Simon's quest that game had an awful lot of "how the hell am I supposed to know that without calling Nintendo helpline" moments.
-
Opinions are opinions. Every site has them, personally its about time someone showed this game some damn respect. I agree with Executioner above that Simon's Quest broke new ground with an open play field still using the castlevania creepiness and characters. I loved playing through it, even if we needed a Nintendo Power to get through certain parts. I think the soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission.
If we're talking about what Castlevania games we each think were the best, I personally would list my top 3 like this.
Castlevania IV
Dracula X
Castlevania III
but, that's just me.

Simons Quest is hood gangsta. Its my favorite NES one. I take it like this:
LONDO OF BROOD
SotN
Simons Quest
the rest are depending on my mood.
Also, IGN is retarded, but this is the first time they may be on to something instead of just talking out of their asses.

My only issue with SQ is that its way too easy. The only challenge is figuring out what to
do and mapping the pitfalls. The actual enemies are a joke.
-
imo, simons quest set the best atmosphere of the NES ones.
Its very creepy and <3

SQ seems to be a love it or hate it game. I personally love it, and it's also my favorite NES castlevania title.

Yes, it definitely does a great job with the atmosphere. That's one of the reasons why I think I love it so. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

Crappy sites should stick to "Favorite" lists. "Top" or "Best" lists always turn out lame because the people making them seem to have only casually played the most popular games around or not at all and just piece it together based on what they've heard here or there and can't really explain their picks.

Simon's Quest kinda sucks.
Castlevania 1 and 3 were in heavy play rotation throughout my childhood, but not part 2.

Simon's Quest was the only Castlevania in heavy play rotation for me until Drac X, but I wouldn't call it the second best. I love the idea of Simon's Quest, the execution just didn't pan out well enough.
