Or a non-SD Fray.

Is this game expensive? I think I want it.

Rarely shows up on eBay any more, but import sites list it above $100 now which IMHO is a bit ridiculous.  I think I paid about $40-$50 for it a few years ago and Drunken Gamers told me I probably overpaid for it back then, heh.

I've found this game has always been a little pricey.
I'll have to give it another chance, only played it for a few minutes.
:D

Yeah, it always looked great in screenshots, but there's just something missing in terms of fun factor.

Yeah, its right on the edge of being a really good game, the bosses range from mechs to wizards, its got good graphics, a little hovercraft/motorcycle action, seamless transition from action to cutscenes and some pretty good soundfx.

But it looks from that video like typical Japanese PC game design...  BGs range from lavish to overy tiled, both level 1 and 2 have the same enemy deficiency: only 2 (!) different enemy types over and over and then a boss battle.  It feels a little sparse, doesn't it?

I got my copy for 30 monies complete.

Its a charming game.  The gameplay is a bit more unique than your typical over head run n gunners.

The video went along with a review I did with someone else for Retroids: http://retroids.com/site/content.php/265-Mystic-Formula-for-PC-Engine-Review

I'm a bit "meh" to it overall, but there are points to the game I really do enjoy.

On a side note, any interest for movies on Flash Hiders, Steam-Heart's or Kakutou Haou Densetsu Algunos?  I generally try to put up game vids that either aren't on YouTube yet or haven't been done in a way that interests me (i.e., I'm not a big fan of personal commentary during a video or skipping cut scenes.)  Flash Hiders has all of its cut scenes up on YouTube but no battles other than the Super NES version.  Steam-Heart's is almost entirely the Saturn version although there is one comparison video that barely shows the PCE version.  I would need to hack the cut scenes up for that one, however, to avoid any troubles.  Finally, Algunos has a pretty good series of videos already if you do some digging, so I'm less interested in that one.

Steam Hearts would be great.  Alot of people ask me about that game and I have no youtube to show them.

I suck at making movies myself

K, I'll try to get something up tonight as I have time.  Probably just the first stage, though, as for some reason my limited shmup skills seem even more limited with that game.
