I thought they were right at $100 or so for one of these things. Not this much:

Converters used to sell for that much 8 or 10 months ago. But the whole Turbo market has gone absolutely apeshit as of late on eBay. I haven't seen an Air Zonk with manual sell for less than $65.
Telegames was selling Mirai converters for about 60 British Pounds (their site is temporarily down). But honestly, why pay that much when you can get a region mod done by one of the techies, or just buy a chopsado pc engine converter from chop5 for much cheaper.
-
I'm always surprised that some people are willing to spend so much for converters. I sold a modified purple barney about 8 years ago for about $150 and soon after prices dropped to around $75. Apparently, prices have risen again.
So whats the story with the white color case? Is this the same thing as the purple one and was modified to fit Duos? Or is this a later model that is designed to fit Duos?
-
$100 for a converter is f*cking INSANE. You can get an entire PC Engine for that. If people are paying even more for these things now then that's just even more stupid.
These US collectors, the ones that apparently are so hardcore they pay unlimited money for shit yet have never been to this forum...who the f*ck are these morons?
-
Only a fool would pay more for a f'n converter than what they can get a Duo-R. f*ckin' hell, what's wrong with these clowns?

Purple, white, or brown - they're all the same except for the color.

Umm is that Aaron who sold that particular converter? 8-[
-
Do you know this guy? Its nickname is pcenginefx and I read in his description: "Direct from the Pcenginefx.com personal collection"
Did you ever see a post about that? Just asking.
-

Yep.
-
ha ha ha i guess sparks wouldnt let him in the f ebay club. but I dont really think its his fault. its these retards who will pay it. and yes..........who the hell are these people?
-
yeah it's an auction listing so it's not his fault that it went up to that much.
-
It started at a penny and with free shipping. Hard to complain about those terms.
-
Yep, cant blame the seller when an auction reaches that high. It is crazy the amount some people would spend on this though. I guess for some, they wanna keep their Duo original and prefer not to mod. Me, I would take a region mod anyday.. I would like to have a converter at some point, just for the sake of my collection tho.
-
umbelievable!!
-
I don't understand paying that much for a converter, unless the buyer wants it for it's collectibility. I paid $200 before shipping for my region-modded, RGB-modded Duo-R. Add 20 more bucks for an arcade card and you can play every turbo game ever made except for the SuperGrafx games. So I dont get $180 for a dopry converter.
Chris

pretty crazy its gotten that high... I guess you can't blame Aaron for selling it on ebay. It makes me think about selling mine if they go for that much, but then that would just keep the vicious ebay gouging cycle going wouldn't it?
-
i have a Mirai converter for my Duo and a Purple Barney for my TG16. Paid $60 I think for the Mirai? Got my Purple Barney for free when I bought 10 TG16 games for $50. They guy didn't even have any PCE games, and didn't know what the converter was.
-
I have a green "diving board" converter that I *think* I got from TZD.com ages ago (mid-late 90s) for $35. I remember thinking that was a lot for a converter. That ebay price is just insane.
-
Kinda wish he offered it to the site first. I am hooked up, but some of our newer members might have been interested. eBay gougers watching that auction must be bouncing up and down in their computer chairs I bet. [-(
-
Some of you noobs won't believe this, but a lot of places sold PCE converters for as low as $15, or sometimes even FREE when you bought a game or two.
There is no reason they should cost more than that. It's just a hunk of plastic that swaps a few pins. They aren't complicated, they aren't official, they arent well made, they aren't cool, they aren't rare.

I was just reading through the ad section of some mid 90s Animerica ads the other day and there are a couple that were for games. One particular one offered a free converter whichever system if you bought like $50 worth of imports games.

I am a US collector and I am on this forum and resent being called a moron sire, maybe they do not come to this forum because of over self centered people like you. Good day sire.

I got my purple barney for free when I bought a game through game dudes back in the late 80's/early 90's... cut it up a little bit to fit in the duo... works like a charm though... a shame though that it took me 10+ years before I actually got a import game... but I still have the original box it came in...

I believe Zeta is referring to those who collect plus pay whatever price it takes to own a piece of NEC history. It seems that these collectors don't want to join our forum because they know we don't take this high dollar business lightly. Have a good one! :)

If you'd pay more for a converter than an entire Duo R...I hate to break it to you, but you are a f*cking moron.
Tidbits: I have no idea what this has to do with being "self centered". If I were "self centered" I would sell my brown PCE converter on eBay for stupid money. Also, please don't call me "sire". I'm not in your renfair carpool.
-
I dunno I just think that these people that pay these high prices are not just morons. They drive the price up on games, etc and imo ruin the community we have. And yes we are a$$holes to the people that come on here and do that. If your not like that people will treat u the way you should be treated. Sire! Lol for gods sake

I hope he doesn't get flagged. I tried to sell a couple of my spare divingboard (kisado-looking) ones last year and ended up getting the auction pulled and my ebay account suspended for violating their copyright infringement terms. =/

This coming from the guy who a few years back started selling $300 plus repaired Duo's on eBay. I remember you had one repaired Duo-R up for close to $350 BIN listed.
-
I think that's a separate issue.
-
I knew someone would make a thread about my auction :) But I have to agree with other comments here - if people want to pay higher than normal for my converter, who am I to argue?
-
Not a bad haul. I have a similar convertor lingering around. I'd rather have close to $200 in my pocket, than a convertor I have not used in years.
Ebay can be surprising. In 2005 or so, I put a complete (box, tray, manual, game) Soldier Blade up there. During the last minute, it was at $75 or so. Decent, about what I expected for a true, complete, copy of a late TG-16 game. Then, 2-3 people REALLY got into a bidding war. From what I recall, I ended up with over $200 for it.
-
See, that's why bidding wars are so stupid. I don't engage in them because.... well, that would mean I'd be bidding (and likely paying for) an item beyond it's actual value. Assuming $75 is fair market value for Soldier Blade, that means the winner paid an extra $125 just.... because? Sure, it works out for the seller but I can't help but feel that anyone who gets involved in such a bidding war is lacking either brain cells, common sense, or both.
I figure out my ceiling on games long before buying them, and when it comes time to bid, I plunk down my max and then just cross my fingers. If it goes beyond my max, so what? That means I still have my money, and someone else ripped themself off.

This is my "strategy" as well.
-
Yeah I bid my max bid in The last five seconds. If its ment to be its ment to be. That's it
-
If it is something I want, I go for it. Of course I always have a limit tho.

I do something similar, i set a max bid at the start, but i don't put it in, that way, some jackass doesn't think he's in a bidding war and just outbid me because he wants to be the high bidder for the first 4 days.

An actual Kisado adapter (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v695/klausien/Kisado.jpg) ? Or just a knock off? The kisado adapters have a specific collectors values to them because of their history and origin. That's about the only reason I could see someone paying $100 for it (not that I want one that badly). Else, if it's just functionality then it's already been stated; just buy an alternate region system. Man... I have a 'barney' converter too. I'll let it go for a measly $125 + free shipping  People really are nuts.

No, mine's a green circuit board - otherwise it looks very much like a kisado. I remember even back in the day the kisados went for a pretty penny. :-k Now I've got a chopsado attached to my Arcade Card Pro and use the diving board for hucards.
