I bought a region and RGB modded Core Grafx 2. It outputs RGB through a replacement din socket.

I thought the picture was perfect. I also have an external custom made RGB unit that plugs into the expansion slot. When I tested it I found that the picture is different, probably better. The larger sprites are noticeably less blocky / jaggy. The sound however is worse through the external unit.

Any ideas on why there is a variance in picture quality?

 Thanks.

The RGB output form the VCE is extremely crisp. Any softening through a converter is due to filtering in the IC design. Using a slow amp and/or caps, etc. Could be frame grabbing/digitizing device that's outputting from a frame buffer. Any number of things. You would need to provide a lot more details to get any real answers.

Yeah, we'd need to know exactly what you have. More importantly, we need to know what's "better" or "worse" in your opinion. A lot of people want the sharpest (ie: jaggiest) image possible from the system itself. Any softening should be done by the display.

Sorry for the lack of details, I'll try to take some photos of what I've got and screen shots later on.

 Hi,

I have the PC-Engine Core Grafx II

I would like to change the video output in RGB, I'm looking for a guide to go from "Composite Cable" to "RGB"....

I would try to make the change to the Core Grafx II. Can someone tell me a guide ??

guides are common, just search for pcengine RGB
amps are needed, and pick one.
we may soon have a professionally made amp for RGB mods (contact BlueBMW for details)

 Hi thesteve!

is true, there are many guides generic  for pc-engine .... For example, for the duo or turbo Grafx etc ....
but i can not find a specific guide for your motherboard's Core Grafx II, anyone knows one ?

anyone know where I can find it ?

you dont need a specific guide as the important points dont change

You probably want to buy one of Blue's amps though.  Trust me, it will save you a LOT of effort.

If you're rgb modding a coregrafx, I recommend tapping the R,B,B,Sync lines from the PC Engine's expansion connector, and you may need to swap out the 5 pin din with an 8, to keep rgb and composite and still have the system look unmodified.
