Well, I just lost my Turbo Duo because the a$$hole who traded it to me wants it back because he f*cked up on the trade wording(He told me that I didn't have to send my system if I wasn't satisfied and I wasn't as it wasn't working properly and now that I have it working, he wants it back with some BS excuses and trying to threaten me). So, now that I'm officially out a PS3 that's blown, $450, AND a Turbo Duo.
So, since obviously no one on the internet will take plight in my story and give me a Duo, I'll have to sell these games I have.
No unfair offers are refused. I only take Checks, Money Orders, or Cash in envelope. NO PAYPAL!!!!

Help me! I've already lost so much trying to get a Duo and it's heartbreaking to get rid of this stuff, but I need to. After all, if I don't have a Duo, what's the point of keeping these?
I guess you also can consider this a farewell already as since I have nothing of Turbo, what's the point of being here?

He claimed that it was working fine. But, when I got it, it wasn't playing my backups. The laser kept locking up. I opened it up, cleaned the gears, unstuck the unit, and now it works fine. But, since I have to send it back, what's the point? Like I said, I have to sell these games. I've lost so much money trying to get a Duo. Since I don't believe anyone would give me their spare Duo or whatever after listening to this story(hell, they might be sitting on four Duos and claim that they are going to sell them to pay for their kid's college when they don't have kids like this character), I guess this stuff has to go and since I don't have a Duo or anything, this is probably the last I'm going to be here as what's the point of being on a Turbo forum when you cannot participate?
I finally got a Duo after all these loops and holes and spending all this money that right now I'm paying off with nothing to show for it and after ten years of waiting for one(my aunt's most prized gaming possession was her Duo. I was supposed to get it when she passed, but the laser died about a week before she did) and now I have to send it back to some a$$hole who loves to hoard everything so no classic gamer can get their hands on one and has no value to him except money.

I know there are people here that may be able to help you in the future after you straighten everything out. It would be smart when/if you get back into this shared passion that you deal with the peeps here on PCFX. That way if anything shady happens we'll try to help you out. :)

Thanks. But, I think I'll pass. After all of this shit, I'm just heartbroken. I just wished that maybe after years of helping people, someone would finally help ME out. I knew it was too good to be true. This whole experience has me believing that there is no such thing as a "God". If there was, I wouldn't be going through this hell.

So did the unit play real CDs fine? I know some duo systems are very poor at reading CDR backups. Maybe the lens is old and needs to be changed?

sounds like you are pretty set on getting rid of your game collection and getting out of the community so good luck to your sale (you are in the wrong section tho this is the PCE for sale thread) but if your aunt's duo with the bad laser is still around some of the guys here can probably fix that for you.

EDIT: After further thought, I would send it back. Sounds like it was you that did not come thru on your end, not the other guy.

How are you out a ps3 $450 AND a duo?
Here's the breakdown:
I put up an offer to trade a 750GB PS3(I used it primarily as a movie hub). The guy that took my offer on another site wanted a new PS3 instead which I agreed to and I sent him one with my Dell account after he sent his Duo. His Duo's laser got stuck and he already had the PS3 I sent him. That's why I was out $200 and a Duo there. Because I wanted to keep the games and the Duo Tap.
At the same time, this a$$hole that's in the topic starter, said he had a few Duo and he's trade my for my 750GB PS3. He said that if I wasn't satisfied with the Duo, I didn't have to send him anything. His Duo comes and it gets stuck reading the backups. But, unlike the last, I opened it, cleaned it, lubed the gear, and I hadn't had that problem since. I was still going to send the PS3 any way to be nice, but when backing up my data, my PS3 got the YLOD. So, that's how I'm out a PS3.
I sent him a message about it and told him. No response. So, I figured he didn't care. What else would you assume from a guy who you don't hear from in a month? But, the guy who got the new PS3, sent me half of the price back, which I used to buy a couple of Duos which were ALSO dead(this was BEFORE the topic starter sent me the Duo). But, being Craigslist, there's no real way to get your money back. That's the OTHER $250 right there.

It's not really being dead set. It's more "I'm out all this money with nothing to show for it, what's the point of keeping it since nobody will step in and help me". As for my aunt's Duo, she junked it after the laser blew. I mean, am I really crazy to believe that maybe there are still some good people out there with compassion for another. I know that if the roles were reversed and I had a spare Duo, I'd send it to that person and maybe even throw in a couple of games. But, since there's no one out there like that anymore, I have to sell.
If it were me, I wouldn't send SHIT back. Keep it.

If he's THAT desperate that he'd lie, make up stories, and threaten me with things he obviously knows nothing about(i.e. this would be a "small claims" case and you don't USE an attorney for that, threatening me with theft when not only did he send it to me, he did NOT state to send it back if I wasn't satisfied), then obviously, he deserves it more than me. I would NEVER pull all that bullshit to keep something or for ANY reason.

So, Basically you have to give the duo back because the PS3 you were going to give him died?
I mean the part where you bought a bunch of toasted duo's from people is on you, but I bet you can do the following:
1) unYLOD the PS3 and send to the guy. That craps easy to fix.
2) keep the duo either way because he was dumb enough to send it.
3) Sell the busted duo's you got off CL for some cash to recoup, or get them fixed and have an army of duos.
also, email exchanges don't really form much of a concrete agreement to anything especially since you guys didn't sign anything and didnt go through eBay or anywhere with protection services. Its CL, or a random forum. Its brutal out there. He can shove it.
He sent it to you. If you don't send it back or keep up your end of the bargain, oops. If he wastes time and money with courtfees, etc. (more than the cost of a duo or a ps3), he is an idiot. Especially because its possible they will just tell him "Youre dumb. Dont send things to strangers". He doesn't have much of a case going for him here.
smash the ps3 with a hammer, insure it for like 400$, lol. Let him claim the insurance when it shows up broken. Theres his money, and a PS3 he can kinda do something with.
Pack the box with D-Batteries , loose, so it all bounces around and breaks things.

So basically you feel that you got ripped off because the 2 Duos you received from the guy didn't play backups perfectly?
Not sure if you know this, but a good number of Duo lasers often get stuck when playing backups.

And also it sounds like the duo. He got wasn't broken at all. The laser jammed because he used cdrs. That's not necessarily a defect in the hardware but a limitation of the older design.
Like others have said... get your ps3 repaired, send it his way, keep your duo and if its not working right, have it repaired.

I did read it. I just dont understand why you are doing this to me. Do you really think I would offer to someone I have never met in my life a $200-$300 classic game system possibly in return for a PS3 "if you are satisfied." (People on this forum ask yourselves if ANYONE you know would do this) You could just lie and say you are not satisfied. You could say "It has a scratch on the case I am not satisfied." I dont even know if you ever had a PS3. You specifically asked me to test it with Bonk/2/Gate of thunder, it worked. I tested it with Lords of Thunder and J.B Harold. I sent the system first out of good faith. I tested the system with originals for more than an hour(love me some Lords of Thunder), no problems. You never said test it with a burn of Gate Of Thunder. You never said you were going to use cdrs at all. Then you tell me your system happened to YLOD while backing up saves(the most processing intensive thing system can do).
Then you tell me you were having problems with the PS3 and the system playing CDrs(nothing about the laser/gears not working). I have a fair knowledge of system repair and offered you some suggestions to try. You did not respond to most of my suggestions. You said you would get a legit DUO CD game and let me know the results. You don not tell me the result. My roomies mom passes away, I lose touch on the issue and kind of had this on the backburner for 3 weeks. You never contact me in the mean time. I contact you 3 weeks later after last contact to see whats the status. You logon(remember you can check last logon on a forum) and dont respond. I send another message, you get back 2 weeks later, saying that the PM message notification bar didnt show any new messages. You tell me to be patient and "whats your big loss here," I say I just traded you for a PS3 and you didnt send that or the "broken" DUO. I say I just want either of those things. You reply with a curse filled bunch of gibberish about how people like me are the scum of the earth and since this was a spare duo(I have a main one for actual gaming, this was a backup) that it should be no big loss for me.
Then you tell me you sent the duo away for repairs, you tell me you traded it with your sister because she knows how to do a cap replacement, you just sent me a message saying that you paid $100 plus traded my duo to get a working one. You say on this forum you opened mine up and cleaned it and fixed it. I have no clue where it is at the moment. You said you would send the duo back. Then you said you wouldnt. You sent me a message today saying to send you a shipping label which I agreed to and you reply that you arent gong to give it back. You offered to mod my PS3 for me(as if I would send you another $300 piece of equipment) as compensation. There is so many contradictions in your mails I dont know where to start.
People on this board can rally behind you all they want it doesnt make what you are doing right. Thus far all you are out is (as far as I can tell) nothing(maybe $100 depending on what mail I am to believe) in respect to our trade. I am out a DUO/PSU/controller and $15 for shipping. Ive tried to be accommodating and civil the whole time. You have been throwing CAPS and curses back at me. You keep telling me that since I have own than 1 DUO I should be happy with my situation. I asked you kindly how I have cost you any money. I have offered to compensate you. You have not responded with anything but the $100 contradiction story. This is my first time trading with anyone on the internet and this is what I get. To the people on this forum, remember there are 2 sides to a story and in this case(unless you know either party) I wouldnt believe either of them. I, too, am interested in some of these games, but I'm rather hesitant to send cash or a check to random guy on the internet, particularly when the only thing I know about his history in such transactions is that one went very poorly. If you want to sell these, you're really going to need to accept Paypal or something.

My attorney was right. You ARE unstable. But, since it looks like he's getting his Duo back, the games are for sale. There's so many contradictions in HIS post, I don't know where the f*ck to start. There's no selling feedback at all. And pretending you contacted an attorney over a botched video game trade isn't helping you look like an honest guy. I really would like some of this, but there's no chance I'm doing it without Paypal, and I doubt I'm alone in this.

Sounds to me like it's JB thats in the wrong here. From reading over the other guy's post, he sounds like he was the one that stuck himself out there, in good faith. Nothing against you JB, but your cursing and name-calling, along with all the accusations tend to make us lose faith in your word. As far as sending cash, or money-order for games, and not using Paypal.. hmm.. There already seems to be a HUGE situation with someone sending something in good faith, and not getting what they expect. I am not taking sides here at all, just explaining to you how it looks on this end.
Playing back-ups in your Duo. Anyone can tell you, that a lot of Duo's have issues with it. Mine will play certain back-ups, and not others. Its a sensitive system. As far as throwing out broken/non-working Duos...hmm..there are A LOT of guys here that fix them VERY easily. So, bad move there man. :(
In closing, if you REALLY want to sell your games, just create a Paypal acct. It's easy, its fast, and its free. That gives the buyer something to fall back on, and helps us feel better about the transaction. I've bought many games from people right here on these forums, and have never been screwed.
For the guy that sent the Duo, sorry for my first post man. Its good to know both sides of the story, and I hope you are able to get your Duo back or the repaired PS3. Personally, I'd want my Duo back.

Yeah, after reading his responses and the "whole" story, I kinda feel that way myself. A little harsher than I would've said it, but I have to agree with ya turbo. :( It's sad to see this kinda thing happen in such a good community.

There also seems to be a recurring theme of "I got screwed, maybe someone here will send me a Duo because they're nice" Just doesnt sit well with me for some reason... IF someone came in here and told us how their house burned down or got nailed by a tornado or something and they lost their whole collection and was looking to buy a cheap Duo to replace their lost one... I'd send that person a free Duo, but this situation, no my charity has limitations.
To the two parties involved... I hope you guys can work things out.

As for being a good community, you guys make me laugh. Notice how when he said his side of the story, you guys all turned to him. I HAD to get a lawyer. He was THREATENING ME. What was I supposed to do? So, I hope you and your new found friend grow up and play nice together.

1) get duo and see if its legit
2) Send PS3 as fair trade.
If the duo was not as legit as you wanted, why didn't you just send it back and be done with it? You were capable of getting multiple duos which you then junked as opposed to fixing....

1) buying a bunch of duos to fix his for a superficial problem. He didn't ask you to do that. You just did it. Maybe you shouldn't buy it with the goal of playing CD-Rs your primary concern.
2) Junking duos once his was fixed, instead of keeping them for more repairs/profit. Why would you throw things out you know how to fix? Why not just buy a junky duo and fix it in the first place?

More to the point, I'm pretty sure all black Duos get stuck on CD-Rs from time to time so that's not an indication of anything. If you don't like it, buy real games. In fact, instead of getting involved in complicated trades and shit, just buy a Duo. If can't afford one, fix your broken one, or sell some of those games to pay for it. If you can't fix stuff or come up with money, US Duos are not for you as they need service.

Well, I just lost my Turbo Duo because the a$$hole who traded it to me wants it back because he f*cked up on the trade wording(He told me that I didn't have to send my system if I wasn't satisfied and I wasn't as it wasn't working properly and now that I have it working, he wants it back with some BS excuses and trying to threaten me). wow... there are definitely some shenanigans going on here, obvious from the first post. who just throws away broken duos? if you paid for them you could easily resell as parts and recoup some money. I don't know how much of this story to believe, but I will say that yes I have been screwed over in the past in duo related deals (only seems to be those ones for some reason) but never tried to get a donated system or rally up the pity train. Do something about it, but JohnnyBlaze I think you are in the wrong on this one, not following through with your end of the bargain. That being said, if you are willing to ship first there are a few games I am interested in. Otherwise nobody's going to bite around here after all this.

Instead of sending it back to him, you tampered with it. You never sent him the goods you owed him either. YOU f*cked him over my friend. They weren't "trash". Just the first. They seem to have the same issues as the PC Engine Duos. Taking in account the age of these systems, and the time they were released, I'd say they were actually pretty good. :) Plus, what he was "expecting it to do" was something the system wasn't designed for anyway.

Well he got back to me and even though his attorney said he would win if it came to court he would send it back as long as I pay for the shipping label. So if anyone wants too buy a freshly hammer smashed DUO I'm sure I will have one in a few days. If you never see this account logged on again you can rest knowing his bomb made it to its destination. I wrote down the serial number and build date of the machine before sending, so I wonder what I will be getting in return. Depending on the story he may have it or traded it or threw it away.

Dye based CDRs are more taxing for original hardware to read. The sapphire boots are glass mastered discs and are just as good as original cds.

By no means. The only known fact regarding CD-Rs and Duos is that the black systems often get their lasers stuck for some reason. This may happen on the R/RX, but I've never seen it.
The idea that CD-Rs kill lasers is basically bullshit. It's bullshit that a lot of people believe, but it's bullshit all the same. Some people hate piracy so much, even in cases where the game has been out of print for 20 years and both the developer and publisher have long since gone out of business so there is no way you could support the creators of the software by buying a legit copy, that they make up stories about how copies kill systems.
The famous European Saphire bootleg isn't a CD-R. It's a real stamped CD. It is the only one like it, AFAIK.

This tigher data track is harder for older lasers to focus on and read. As far as damaging... the only thing I can give credit to is the fact that a laser may have to reseek more, and refocus more to read a CDR. In the long run this could mean more wear on all components involved.

Each individually packaged in jewel cases with white trays, which I can use as replacement cases for any jacked up Japanese CD games that I buy. I thought the CDs themselves might not be very useful (I really bought them for the cases), but I'll go ahead and use them any time I want to burn a Duo game.

CDR quality also has a lot to do with how well they are read. Hopefully the ones you got are some higher quality ones and havent deteriorated much due to age.

The idea that CD-Rs kill lasers is basically bullshit.
Older lasers only designed to read disc made of certain materials are going to be stressed out more trying to read short strategy cd-rs made of cheap materials and dyes. That is a fact. The laser will indeed have to work harder to focus the beam on the disc. Most laser lens use some kind of raising mechanism used to help focus the laser. That has to work harder in older lasers try to exceed their spec to focus the beam on junk media made to be read by superior hardware manufactured 15 years later. I still have plenty of cd-rom drives for pc from 94-95 that can not read any short strategy cd-rs at all. They make a ton of noise as they try to do so, but it is just past their ability. Toss a normal pressed disc in there, they read perfectly. These days buying long strategy disc in retail stores is damn near impossible, so the average buyer will get stuck with short strategy, increasing the odds of overworking their laser. All lasers will die in the end, but the idea is not to speed that death up.

I have had the mechanics fail on plenty of lasers, so that the laser lenses cant be raised anymore to focus. This is especially true on the KSS 210A and B. I replaced enough of those now due to that, that I don't care to ever do so again.

More on topic... these threads are crazy! If it was me that received the Duo, I'd try to see if it was an easy fix first (and NOT try it with a CDR first!). If it was fixed, as it was in this case, AND the promised PS3 was broken, the correct thing to do is EITHER send the Duo back OR acquire another equivalent PS3 (buy new if needed) and send him exactly what he was expecting. Anything else is dead wrong, which is exactly what happened.

Seems like that's what we do with woman, To save my relationship I sold off everything cept my Nintendo and NEC stuff. At that time I had every system out up to the then Current Dreamcast. SEGA master, Genesis with every single add on sega made for them. Even had genesis master system add on. Atari's the hard to find working Jag CD, 3DO. I had a shit load of games to. I remember cutting school cause Toys r us had Sega CD games dirt cheap along with 3DO games. Atleast I was smart enough to hold onto my TG and Nintendo stuff.

I don't know, but I read through most of this thread a while back, and decided that perhaps buying from this individual might not be the best idea. At least, not without Paypal or some other form of protection.

A guy came into a forum and asked for hand-outs after an Atari Jaguar ate his balls, his Mega Drive and his Turbo Duo which prevented him from giving cabbage to a Rabbi. Apparently, the Rabbi was actually the evil genius who keeps putting those insta-death spike pits from Keith Courage in Alpha Zones just off screen, so he didn't deserve Cabbage anyway.
Then the Rabbi comes on the forum and explain that actually, he's the reason we got the Gate of Thunder Super CD and spins a heartfelt, warm-blooded speech about being kind to animals and loving your fellow man. He demonstrates this himself by refusing to behead those who had wronged him. Therefore, we all side with him.
But the first guy, who is revealed to in fact be an aging and senile Johnny Turbo, instead goes off the deep end and tries to flood the world in a sea of venus bonktraps. It backfires and he ends up summoning that nigh-unbeatable ballerina boss from the second game, who promptly wipes the floor with him before getting killed herself by Raiden the Thunder God, who uses a fatality just to be sure.
Everybody laughs. The end.
I may have taken liberties with the story, but that's the way I see it.

You pay your sister $30, or the going rate to fix a Duo, to fix the Duo or Duos, and then they work or do not work and you throw or do not throw them out. Johnny proceeds to play CDR and they ruin the laser, and you throw away the Duo. Bobby harasses Johnny, and both parties hire a lawyer at $250 per hour. you then have to sell your games to presumably live. Also, you make a posting to try and recoup 25% of your cost.
Question: How much time have you wasted reading all of this?

after reading the thread it's obvious that's what he was trying for claiming that the ram adapter thing was broken but another member sent him a replacement which the guy says it worked but the guy who sent it got the broken one in trade and also said it worked. I dont think he got much though, just a partial refund of $25 but he was going for more. After reading over both thread and this one again it's crazy how many similarities there are in the two deals though

I almost bought a turboduo from him, but he wouldn't budge from the $300 ebay price. Wasn't that great of a deal since he was keeping the box it came with and didn't come with cords either I don't think.
