I am wondering what everybody thinks it will end at?? I haven't seen one with a manual pop up in forever.

I don't think it will go for more than about 50.00, but all it takes is two very motivated would be buyers to knock up the price.
-
I say it will end at somewhere between 70 and 80 since there are not too many on eBay right now.
-
Is bomberman 93 rare? How come this game will end at $50+ ??? It's such a common game.....
-
yea i was waiting on it, because it was on the borderline between uncommon and low end rare.
-
That's crazy.
-

Yeah, I won't be surprised now days. After seeing that loose Super System card go for $200+ a few weeks back, anything is possible.

I bought my complete North American System 3.0 Card from eBay in an auction, within the last year for $70 - $80.
I don't monitor eBay regularly, but I've seen Bomberman '93 sell for $30 or less several times over the last couple years. I've even posted current Buy-It-Nows within that range in threads here when people have complained that they can't find it anywhere.
-
Is this a tg16 bomberman 93 or a pce???
-
I agree with D-Dan's assessment of what it might end up on ebay. I would probably say that between $30-35 is a fair price to pay for a US copy with the manual as it has sold within this range and sometimes cheaper in the last year or so.
-
It's probably worth a lot due to the pointy hat and bullet proof clown car.
-
lol ok fine I should of looked at the link. sorry

my guess for the ending price is $65

god i hope the ebay buyers are not thinking that or she will be up to $60 in no time <<shrugs>>
-
That's one ghetto spine sticker - it looks like it was colored in with a kids marker.
-
Looking at the price its at now, and how much time is left, we could see $100 before the auction is done.
Meanwhile Hit Japan has this game for $9, BIN, and it comes with a case.

And there's no language barrier.
But the Turbo version is more for collecting than playing.

The back of the manual has a big crease in it too.

I just don't get it:
Bomberman 93 is a common game, plus cover art is worse than PC Engine one. I don't see the reason why it's worth more than Japanese version? It's not in a low production run but why why why???????

Seeing as it's one of the latter US releases, it was a small run relative to the earlier titles; and compared to the far more popular PCE, it's not even close (at least ten to one PCE to TG-16).
-
Yeah, back in the day I didn't even realize there was a US relese of this game.
-
i still want the US release, with its manual. Just not a stupid price.
-
holy crap its all the way up to $81 with 14 hours left.

Insanity, but like I said all it takes is two very motivated buyers.

If I wasn't so stubborn I would sell mine and just get PCE.
Damn shame about the price of the system cards though, as they are the only 2 US hu cards I don't own, and now I likely never will.

The 2.0 card isn't going for that much nowadays is it?
I know the Super CD 3.0 card is astro expensive though.
-
Alright, confession time. I'm trying to get this. And it looks like some one with more money than me will probably succeed. It's over $100  Anyway, assuming I lose this, I'd be willing to trade a System 2.0 card + cash to someone for this game. I've got a Duo and the System 2.0 card is of no use to me. I found it stuffed in a case with another game I purchased a while back. Anyway, let me know.
-
System 2.0 cards aren't worth much at all.. now if its a us system 3.0 card....
-
OK, now it's at $120. WTF. I hate people. I'm willing to bet it'll be on ebay again next week with a BIN of $200. I swear that shit happened with Godzilla.
-

Yeah, I realize it isn't worth much. But if people here think $40 is reasonable for Bomberman '93, I'd be more than willing to give them $40 + System 2.0 card if they need it.

And a boxed copy sold recently for 'only' $112. f*cking eBay maroons. [-(
-
I think I payed $30 for my us bomberman 93... complete minus box. This was with the last year... wtf
-
yea, well i am holding out. i need it, and don't really might the $35-$50 ( if its in GREAT condition) it will drop like Air Zonk spiked. it might just be a while though
-
I was going say this one popped up the other day... I though it was too much so I passed on it. Guess not

The one that's on eBay right now is so astronomically high (currently $120) I recommend you not bid on it. That's just waaay too much.
-
Well, the good news is that someday when I sell off my TG collection I'll be rich. The bad news is that I'm so attached to it, most likely I'll wait until I'm about to die.
At least my kids will be rich then I guess. ;-)
-
Honestly, I think these high TG16 prices are a bubble that will burst when our current generation gets older. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think these games will decline in value over the years (think 10 years from now) because the nostalgia factor will be long gone. I think if you're looking to get rich selling TG16 games, there really isn't a better time than now to do it.
With that said, there's no amount of money that would convince me to sell my TG collection again. I made that mistake once in the past and won't do it again.

People thought that about baseball cards of players from the early 1900s as well though. I think there will be a drop, but these things will still have value, even to people who didn't grow up with them.
Added in edit: I'm by no means suggesting that these games will maintain their current ebay market values, simply that they will continue to be treasured years later.
-
True. But look at comic books. Sure there are a lot that are still worth a fortune, but after the bubble burst in the early 90s it never really recovered. I remember thinking when I was a kid that I was making an investment for my future kids by buying comic books because the older generation comics were worth so much at the time. These days my comics collection is worth (for the most part) squat.
But I think both of those analagies aren't very good as you don't need any additional hardware to enjoy them. With these games, you need a working system, controllers, and, ideally, a tube tv. I don't think they even make tube tvs anymore. :)
I'm not a big LD collector, but for what I can tell, that stuff is cheaper than dirt these days though for a long time it was considered superior to everything on the market (arguably even dvds due to the uncompressed nature of the media). Of course hard to find stuff (such as Song of the South) still fetches a crazy price, and Magical Chase probably always will as well. But I wouldn't be surprised if most of the other games drop.
I remember in the mid-90s Military Madness regularly sold on the mailing list for $35-45. Now it can pretty easily be had for half that. Spriggan cost me $70 when it was released. In the mid 90s I remember it fetching closer to $100. Now you can find it for $50. So I don't know.... I guess the market value is whatever 2 or more people are willing to shell out on ebay for it at any given time. :)

Comic books crashed because the entire industry was over-saturated with stores and collectors. The golden and silver age comics haven't deteriorated in value. It's comics of the 1970s on that dropped.

Heh, I paid a small fortune for my Japanese copy of Song of the South on LD.

Stuff goes up and down in value, I suspect that as time goes on the hardware will be more sought after than now, the games will level out a bit.

I agree. I acquired a good portion of my collection in the late '90s early 2000 and some of the fairly common games seemed to drop in price. I remember a used copy of Cosmic Fantasy 2 going for about $30 back then and now, sealed brand new copies can be had for about the same price or less. Also, I remember Dracula X used to go for $130+ and now easily can be found for around $80.
I think in the case of Bomberman '93, it's a decent game and has become harder to find, so value/demand has increased.
Yet another copy of Bomberman '93 loose hucard sold this morning for $40...

Cosmic Fantasy was 30.00 because Working Designs was selling them for 29.99 up until they went out of business. They had boxes of extras of it and Exile 1.
Also Dracula X dropped because it was released on PSP and virtual console effectively leaving demand only to collectors or people who want a 100% authentic experience on the original hardware.
-
so does anybody want to sell me the US Bomberman 93 with manual for $40?/ I would love you long time. :)
-
I love me some co-op Bomberman, even more than I like multi-player versus. It seems most people agree with this now that the price is way up, just like Saturn Bomberman.
-
<dons Nomex>Well, I won, for the completely reasonable price of $166.59. :-$ Before being chewed to pieces:
a) I've been a TG16 fan for 20 years. Yes, I owned several variants BITD. Own a few now too. :D Loved them then and I love them now.
b) I'm a single engineer that probably makes too much money. Please forget that fact if you ever sell me something.
c) Yes, I've been drinking

Nevermind

me too :P

I'm more than happy to scan the manual for you guys! I'll probably need a reminder in a week or two when it arrives.

To be honest, I kind of feel the same way. On the other hand, I've lost out on some deals recently and haven't seen prices near as good since. *sigh* I should stop trying to justify it. It is what it is. I've spent more money on dumber things.
Not at all directed to you, BlueBMW - you've been nothing but helpful and I really appreciate it. Having said that, it seems popular on this board to point out how awesome cheap you guys got games for. I really don't know where you are picking these up for. Both rare and fun games (not that the two are mutually exclusive) seem to be going for a hefty chunk of change these days. I've got a little more half the American library, and I'm pretty sure anything I want beyond this point (which is all of them) is going to cost me.

It does seem like prices have spiked in the last few months. Not sure the reason behind it. Honestly I've found deals two ways... one being patient and waiting for someone on here to post up a sale thread, or two buying in big lots (usually someone getting out of collectiong or gaming completely) that seems to be how it happens. :P
The only real bummer with this auction going that high is the fact that sellers will now reference it for future sales and thus drive up the price of Bomberman 93 quite a bit. Fortunately there is the PC engine version available for gamers, so it really only hurts people trying to collect.

I have actually done both, though my definition of patience probably varies from others. As far as buying lots, I've gone that route too, with the downside being duplicates. Anyone need sealed TV Sports games? :D

Fair enough. We all know that if you are really just interested in playing these games, there are several other means available. Flashcarts and emulators spring to mind, and they are both extremely helpful if you are interested in development as well.

Flash carts and emulators are shit. Its equally depressing and baffling that people will group PCE copies of games in with flash carts and emulators.
See this?

Thats the same exact friggn game, a legit retail product, from the original region, not the bastard oddity alternate reality that is the Turbografx 16...for ten measly dollars, and he has many copies of it. Comes with a case (like all JP releases) with decent art too, unlike the shitty cardboard box with the janitor drawing on it.
Seriously...WTF is wrong with you people? Paying 10x+ as much for a mediocre condition copy of an inferior version. On a good day you could have had Kaze Kiri for that much money. You could easily have PCE versions of every bomberman game.
The damage done by an overinflated Turbo market is self %100 inflicted. Saying, "Dang, why are these prices so high!? Oh well, I guess I have to pay it." is just...stupid. You're the cause of the very thing you're complaining about.
I'm a much bigger fan of Bomberman '94, and didn't even own a copy of this game, but just because it makes me feel so f*cking smart I just now bought a copy for $16 shipped.
That was my text book bitching, now lets hear the same from two guys who always counterpoint me. I wonder if they'll still do that when Keith Courage hits $200 copy...
-
Yeah, I can't really believe what I just read earlier in the thread, either. I'm speechless.
-
I like that there are JP options out there... especially all the sweet stuff that didn't make it this side of the pacific. But I don't like that I can't read JP. What's an ignorantpowhitetrashsmalltownhomeboyallgrowedupwithajob to do?
Ok, obviously with bomberman the language barrier isn't going to keep you from playing, but it kinda irks me still. I don't want no JP up in my game if I can avoid it. It hurts my brain. ;-)
-
Sadler no need to feel bad about it you are right it's a free world, you have the money to spare and you wanted the game bad enough to spend more for it to get it NOW so more the power to you and I am sure the seller appreciates it too hehe but since you are a member here you could have just posted a WTB thread on the games you wanted and I am sure there are guys here who would be willing to sell to you......especially since now we all know that you have deep pockets! haha just kidding.

If you hate Japanese so much then how is it you can stomach playing their games? I mean, that must drive you nuts. I mean...these are Japanese as hell games we're talking about here. They started there, they were manufactured there, etc. I find it impossible to forget.
BTW, many PCE games are %100 English. The Soldier series, for example. Bomberman usually has about 5 words in the whole game to begin with, with about half of them already being in English.
-
there are some pce games even the voiceovers are english like Legions

This is very true. I think I'm going to go buy the game for $10.

That's just the kind of crap my wife would say. Making things up and going on random nonsense tangents. You took me saying "I don't like that I can't read JP" to mean that I don't like Japanese. Quite the opposite. I'm ashamed of the fact that I don't know any other languages and I rather respect cultures that make learning other languages a priority. The Japanese language (and pretty much every other language but my own...) does hurt my head...
As I said before... "What's an ignorantpowhitetrashsmalltownhomeboyallgrowedupwithajob to do?"
heh. ;-)
(and... for the record... bomberman '94 is my fav NEC rendition of the bunch... kids and I love it!)

I like things from many cultures, yet only speak one language. This comment is like saying, "how can you love movies and then watch a Fellini film with subtitles?"

Almost all of my 'rare' games were bought on eBay for reasonable prices, the rest were bought here from other members. Impatient people such as yourself are why the eBay market is as screwed up as it is, but if those that are willing to wait or buy larger lots can still find a few deals.

Yes, BlueBMW pointed that out. And yes, I was impatient on this and probably should have waited. Regardless, what's done is done. I'll try here first next time.

There is one place that consistently has the best prices and selection. Where you can not only find any game for what it really should sell for, but often for 90% or more less than that. It's eBay.
If you go to the mall and Gamestop is selling new PS3 ganes for $600 each, but the shop next door has them for $60 each, what would you do? Buy and/or complain about the high prices of what can be purchased for $60?

For American titles? If you have a link to a cheap Bonk 3, Beyond Shadowgate, Cotton or Godzilla on ebay, I'd love to see it.

I'm just mad that I sold my original of the turbo duo dynastic hero 5 years ago. I had no idea it would be worth so much and that I'd probably never be able to own it again ](*,) Crazy ebay

Ebay has pretty much gone straight to hell the last couple of months for Turbo stuff. Of course you can't just walk into any game store and find a copy of Magical Chase, Dynastic Hero or Bonk III just laying around on sale for $50 so what can you do? Making matters worse are these VGA sellers who are buying up Turbo games and reselling them at premium prices as "VGA Graded". $100+ for common turbo games VGA graded? Get the hell out of here!
As others have mentioned its kind of a supply and demand situation where if a game has very few if any copies up on ebay over time the prices tend to go up. I haven't been watching for Bomberman 93 as I've had the game in my collection, but in my experience a game can go a month without being on ebay and then all of a sudden 5 copies will pop up. I think the worst thing buyers can do is panic and pay more thinking its their only chance at getting a particular game cause there will be other opportunities.
Me personally I've always used www.racketboy.com (http://www.racketboy.com/)'s "rare & valuable" to get an idea of what a game is worth and then use my own judgement.

You can go to eBay where they ARE lying around for $50. A complete Dynastic Hero for Turbo sold on eBay within the last couple months for $50. Sales like that are what should matter to buyers, not stupid asking prices or the odd crazy eBay listing end price which may or may not have been paid for.
People sometimes make sarcastic comments like this, contrasting the extreme asking prices with extreme 'fantasy' scenarios. But the bottom end prices are not a fantasy, at leadt on eBay.
I can list my Bomberman '93 for $10000 or Magic Chase for $50000, but that doesn't mean that they are instantly worth more. That's the whole point of the gouging threads. It's a joke what many people are asking for Turbo stuff. It's only a tiny percentage of these crazy listing that actually end in a sale which may or not have been paid for. But there's also an equal or greater percentage of listings that sell for good or super cheap prices that we have every reason to believe were paid for.
It's this kind of mentality that has allowed people to so easily manipulate the Turbo market. I can list a game not currently for sale on eBay and buy it under an alternate account for a high price. Then sell it for real the next week to someome who will believe that that is now "what they go for".
-
If you go to the mall and Gamestop is selling new PS3 ganes for $600 each, but the shop next door has them for $60 each, what would you do? Buy and/or complain about the high prices of what can be purchased for $60?
Isn't that FYE's business model?
Yes.
-
wow. Well I feel like an ass passing up a copy of this because I thought $35 was too high. Glad I bought my PCE version for $5 a couple years back ;)
-
So now, after this Bomberman '93 sold at a high price, Ebay gouger jackasses are going to set even higher buy now prices.
I bet the next complete Bomberman '93 that is put up on Ebay will be a buy now for some crazy price of $200-$300 or more.
-

Don't worry, they still go for that and less. One of the copies mentioned during this thread sold for $40. People should be paying more attention to that than the ones going for $100+ around the same time.

First let me say I don't condone the inflated prices on ebay nor did I say ebay should be used to gage how much games are worth. I also said you can't go into a store and find the games I mentioned for $50 laying there. There are a lot of factors involved in how much a game is "worth" and it should be researched thoroughly.
As far as a $50 dynastic Hero goes that's a fantasy if I ever heard it and I should know because I've been searching Dynastic Hero for about a year on ebay. In that time I can count the number of times I've seen a US Dynastic Hero on one hand and I've often checked several times a day. I'd really like to see the link to that auction if you have it. It must have set a record for quickest BIN auction to close.
Even if the story is true, the seller either didn't know its worth or was feeling really generous (or stupid). Even with your logic I can sell my copy of Dynastic Hero for $50, but does that mean its worth $50? Sure you could get lucky and find a really good bargain on ebay like a $50 DH in the same way you could find one in some guys garage sale, but that isn't realistic is it? I can also wait patiently for a $50 copy of Magical Chase to appear on ebay, but more likely I will die of old age before that happens.

'Twas indeed a speedy BIN, but it did happen.

You missed the point entirely. Why dismiss the cheap Dynastic Hero as unrealistic and not a factor in determining values yet accept the equally unbelievable $166 Bomberman '93 as the going price? Such logic is just silly.

I'm not sure where I "accepted" the $166 Bomberman 93 in the first place. I'm just responding to the idea that because there was some freak $50 Dynastic Hero sale on ebay that somehow means there are $50 copies lying around. It's unrealistic to go on ebay and find copies of DH, MC and Bonk III for $50.
I was taken out of context in my original post, but if you read it I went on to say that even if a game is not on ebay for a month 5 more could pop up the next, and that buyers shouldn't panic and raise prices because that's how they become inflated.
-
Some of the best deals on Turbo games I got on eBay. I bought a single lot of games in 2008 that included Magical Chase. The other three games were games I already had, so I sold them off. When all was said and done I'd landed a complete copy of U.S. MC for $165. Within the past year I traded the box (!!), which is essentially worthless to me, for complete U.S. copies of Bonk 3 CD, Cotton and Dragon Slayer. Some simple math reveals that in the end, I ended up with MC, Bonk 3 CD, Cotton, and Dragon Slayer for $165.
I think it's funny when people say games like DH and MC rarely show up on eBay. I see these games pop up for sale frequently, often multiple times a month. While it's true the cheap ones don't stay up for long, they do show up. One need not "die of old age" before nabbing a good deal on this stuff. If that were true, I'd still be waiting for good deals to come along.

I believe it was up for BIN for a total of 6 minutes.

It hurts my brain. ;-)
I like things from many cultures, yet only speak one language. This comment is like saying, "how can you love movies and then watch a Fellini film with subtitles?"
No, its nothing like that at all. I'm talking about people who would just never watch a Fellini movie in the first place. Anyone who is interested in Fellini is obviously very open minded to all sorts of shit far more f-ed up than a language barrier. I mean, if the entire game is in English but someone can't even stand that the manual sitting on the shelf has Japanese text in it, or that there is a single line of kana on the title screen, and they are wiling to pay ten times the price to make sure none of that shit enters their house...that's just plain xenophobia, period.
If anything we're talking about a character in a Fellini movie.
Its one thing to say, "I need a US copy of Dragon Slayer because I can't read Japanese". I'm totally with you there. But "I can't f*cking stand having any Japanese writing on anything my house." is just insane. I'd half expect the same person to burn all their records made by gay people since, hey, they're hetro, why would they want gay music they can't understand?

Although the gay thing was a bit of a tangent, I guess I can agree with you for the majority of your post. As long as a game isn't text heavy, it is rather obnoxious to NEED the US version... we'll leave our arguing over the superior box art for another day ;)
If anything we're talking about a character in a Fellini movie. <--- I did like that though, lol.

It isn't a need. It's not like I gave up food for this game. It is a desire. I get it, I overpaid for this game. Like I said before, I've spent more money on dumber things. The 3DO I sold my first Duo for is the most obvious, and that cost way more than this game.

Have you made your point yet, or would you like to spend a few more posts calling a fellow forum member names for spending his disposable income on something he loves?

That wasn't really aimed at you, but if the shoe fits....
You're not the first (or last) person to overpay for something.

How much were Super Air Zonk and Dynastic Hero going for on Ebay 5 years ago?
I stumbled onto my Turbo gear in the parents basement ~3 years ago and memories came rushing back, so I have a mental pricing gap 1995 - 2008. Even three years ago most of this stuff was way cheaper tho. It only took me about a year to get to where I only needed DH and MC. MC took me another year, just plugging $$ into the savings account every month, DH was the hardest to get, but I scored it ~6 months ago here on the forums. Looking at auctions and sales that have closed since those purchases, I can honestly say I'm glad I didn't wait. I think I would have been waiting another 10 years or so for the bubble to burst, with no guarantee that the rare games would ever come down.
I probably have a different way of looking at it anyway... if I don't spend the money, my wife will... on shoes, purses, and $5 coffees... ;-)
-
Five years ago, Air Zonk...probably $40.

That's right on the money. I remember paying $45 shipped for a complete CD copy with no box (don't know if this came with/without a box, didn't care). I sold it with my US Duo.
-
9 years ago i got a copy of Air zonk for around 10.00 if you can believe that!

OUCH.......wonder what else you could have bought with the spare 40.00.

Are you guys talking about Air Zonk or Super Air Zonk? The prices quoted would be on par for the first game or the import version of the second game. When I joined the forums in 2005 and started buying games again, $100 for SAZ would have been a steal on ebay. (I got it for $15 from Game Dude in '97.)
Dynastic Hero was going for about $200 five years ago.
-
Mine is the Hucard Game Air Zonk......Not super AZ
-
Five years ago, SAZ was going for $70 - $100 and DH was being advertised for and occasionally selling at $200.
-
the person who bought DH for $50 mentioned earlier was Ope I think he said it was an auction on ebay and he ended up being the only person who bidded and the reason was because the seller spelled the name wrong so nobody found it but ope also said that the manual was in pretty rough shape tho.
-
Makes me wish I'd found my stuff in the attic a little sooner. heh.
-
man I was hoping this title would have dropped back down by now. For a while Air Zonk spiked for a short time, so I had hoped Bomberman 93's spike would ahve already ended.
