Title: "UGH!!! FFS!!!" moments in your favorite Turbo games...
Post by: ddoubledee on May 07, 2015, 06:21:28 PM
Do any of your favorite games have frustrating quirks? Cheap deaths, impossible challenges, game breaking glitches... Write about them in this thread!

I'll start with a simple example from Ys Book 1&2...

- "You can save anywhere!" is both a feature and a bug... The game will allow you to save on an enemy's spawn point, which can sometimes result in instant-death when you reload-- a useless save. It's more of a quirk because we've all played it before, so we expect it... But for a new player, it's a great surprise. ;)

- Nearly killing a boss and accidentally exiting the room.

The offense of the team I am controlling on TV sports not only does not know how to run diagonally to catch a ball, but they also do not know how to jump to catch a ball.

The defense seems to get "stuck" on other players when going for a tackle. They too, do not know how to dive to make a tackle. Also, they do not know how to tackle.

I played last night, so it is still all fresh in my brain.

On Keith Courage, in the underworld, when you are dropping down, there is no F'ing way to tell where there are red spikes, a baddy, or a rock to safely land on.

Genpei Toumaden - When you get all the way to the final boss & realize you don't have all three treasures you need to beat him, so you need to re-do all that grueling play forming & HOPE you go to the right place to find the shit.

Also, falling into a pitfall into the underworld.  You're pretty wholly screwed if that happens, even if you can pay your way out.

When you don't perfectly judge a boss's weak point & constantly hit it where it's invulnerable, damaging your sword you so lovingly collected purple balls to power up, because it doesn't do shit for damage unless you do.

Most of that game is frustrating...but I somehow still love it.  Been awhile since I tried to tackle the first one, though.  I have a lot more fun with Samurai Ghost.

When you realize you will never see Samus naked no matter how fast you beat the game.

Although it is one of my favorite games, the last level of Legendary Axe gets on my nerves. I don't mind the whole labyrinth thing, I hate that every time the screen changes my axe powers down and I have to wait for the damn thing to charge back up. It slows the game down to a crawl. Lately I have been playing it and just charging in without waiting, but in the rooms with those spear guys...It isn't a huge gripe, I just feel like it really harms the flow of the game.

LOL.  I'm gonna move this switch, to rotate this thing, and look at that, if only I could reach it...

Oh wait, here's the ladder and there is the exit.

Legendary Axe II: final level. I've only beat the game once because of this.

Gradius: the strawberry level. If you die on it, you have to reset.

Bonk's Revenge: final level. I have never beaten the game because of it

Dungeon Explorer: Tigrebeast. You need to have enough lives to beat him. And I do not like having to reboot the game in order to continue. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Mizubaku Daibouken: Level 7. If you pick the wrong door to go through, you have to reset

R-Type: I can't even beat Stage 4. Not to mention only 2 continues.

Keith Courage: the annoying music is enough to make you go insane. Especially the boss areas. I swear, they made music annoying just so it'll make the game more difficult.

Keith Courage's music is one of my favorite parts of the game, which I appreciate in general. The boss music isn't any different than many "classic" or "legendary" games such as SMB or Castlevania.
