Title: Genesis VGM-ROM Music Project
Post by: SmokeMonster on May 27, 2015, 07:23:40 AM

Sega MegaDrive Vgm Player (http://mjsstuf.x10host.com/pages/vgmPlay/vgmPlay.htm) lets you convert .vgz Sega Genesis/Megadrive music files into a rom that can be played in an Everdrive. They open as a player that lets you skip tracks, restart, etc.

Could anyone please help me convert more music over? Almost every game's .vgz music is hosted at project2612.org (http://). It only takes about 15 seconds to convert one game from start to finish (download, extract, drag VGZ files to VGMPlay.exe and it's done).

If you want to help, post links below or shoot me a PM with links to any music roms or packs that you create. Please do one full game's VGM as one .BIN. I'll credit you for anything you submit! Don't make roms larger than 4.2MB though or they'll fail (you will get an error message about bad headers), so split large games into two files.

THIS IS FRIGGIN' AWESOME!!!!!!

I love this, only a handful of games have actual sound tests.  :)

Now I know I'll have to get an EverDrive for MegaDrive/Genesis.

Damn.

Thanks. Yeah, it's so disappointing when games with great music lack a proper sound test. SMDVGMP fixes that though :D

In a conversation with SMDVGMP's developer, I mentioned that it might be nice to have a way of including cover art, and he said that he could include that as a feature. I sent the mock-ups below of the idea that I had in my head. Since project2612 hosts a nice 320x240 cover PNG for each submission, it would still be super fast for users to throw a custom BIN together.

Just an update: SMDVGMP's developer responded that the current user interface can be trimmed and the art will be 160x112 with 30 colors. I'm stoked!
