Title: Anyone have a RetroTink?
Post by: gex on March 21, 2019, 10:37:30 PM
Having people over quite frequently now, and most of them sooner or later find themselves playing Mario Kart or something. Everyone playing is forced into my games room, which gets smaller and smaller every year and isn't the most comfortable with groups of 4+. So I'm thinking of moving (most) of my consoles into the main TV area so everyone can fit on the big couch and enjoy.

Not really into the whole scanline/RBG circlejerk thing, just looking to play my consoles on a flatscreen with the least amount of headache. So with only using composite this RetroTink looks to be my best bet. Curious if anyone here has any experience with RetoTink.

I've never heard of it, but after some googlin' it sounds interesting.  Dat price though...

I'm kinda curious about it, but not quite enough to buy one. I already have a OSSC, but I'd love to get one to use with a laserdisc player if the composite to HDMI conversion is good enough. As it is I have a ridiculous scaler setup that I would love to get rid of.

If you're patient you can find one used and get it even cheaper

Since making this post I've spoken to quite a few people regarding the video output, and it seems to be great. I bought mine already, but it's at my friends place who intercepts my parcels within the united states. LA PAC???

I bought one. I love the little thing. I 3d Printed the case for it as well.  It's just a line doubler but gives a nice picture. Don't expect miracles with composite though. The Duo with it looks better, but not amazing through composite. Way better than without it though. It makes consoles with component and S-Vid look really nice. I use a scart to component converter then output it through the retrotink. Works fantastic and there is no lag that I can tell with games I've played 23409874536098723450987653409845630987532098765349087 times. Yeah, for what it is I think $75 would be a more fair price, but it's way cheaper than an SSC or lol Framemeister. Again though it really is just a line doubler. It helps for your rgb consoles to run on an hdtv which can't support 320p resolution. Mine only supports 480p and up so this helped with my rgb capable consoles and they look great. Now I can also plug up my s-video supergun to the hdtv. I bought this just to get a decent picture on the hdtv cause as much as I love my pvm i just want to sit on the comfy couch far away and rock some games on a big screen.

I'd send you a few $ if you sent me that file :)

Yeah that's the problem with PVM's, they're not really that huge. There are 32' guys, but you know. Rare/expensive. Like you said sometimes it's just better to sit on the comfy couch and game on the flat screen. A+ for guests too who hangout in the common areas of your house
