Title: Game of The Month: November 2019 - Cotton

This month is Cotton. A Shooter I've always enjoyed. The hitbox is pretty large, but I have fun with this game. I love the music, humor, cutscenes, and bosses. The level system by getting the gems always is what tends to kill me though in this game. I tend to concentrate too much on getting those that I die by being stupid and not paying attention. It's another game I haven't cleared in a long time so I wanted to add it for GotM. Seems to be a game others enjoy so I hope others will like it for GotM! Enjoy!

Post by: majors on November 07, 2019, 01:30:53 PM: I've always had a fondness for Cotton, an early "cute'em up" for me. It hit right when I was starting to learn of Anime/manga, so the Japanese-y look and feel fell right in place. I will say it does has it flaws, it seems a little unpolished on the game play area. Along with the graphics seeming to be pushed a bit too far. I do find it a challenge, with it's fire/charge mechanic on both buttons along with the Twinbee bell style of power ups...it's hard for me to attack while doing crystal management...but I fault me on that, not the game so much.

Never beat it, so I look forward to getting some games in and improving. Glad the GotM is around, it give me an extra push to play my games.

I love the music in the the Super CD rom2 version though. I have yet to beat this one again this month. I will have this weekend to rock it. Maybe even try a run tonight.

I haven't played it in a while, but sounds like I need to. :) Don't forget, the pc engine version has the ability to go to English. Really no reason to go to the U.S version unless you really really want to spend the cash..

Post by: geise on November 29, 2019, 09:41:52 PM: I was lucky and got mine used for around $10 in 94. The year no one cared about Turbo except us few that supported it then. Lucky for us we could get the games for next to nothing then since stores were clearing out everything.

Post by: _joshuaTurbo on November 30, 2019, 11:27:31 AM: So I actually spent a solid hour playing this morning (on the final day of the month no less, lol) and I think I'm finally starting to come around to it.

It's always felt really clunky and overall fairly un-fun in a sea of awesome shooters. But, I think it's starting to click. I was able to get through the first stage without continuing, lol. I mashed on both the regular shot and bombs and used a charged shot when needed. I still think the flickering and slowdown in certain parts are annoying, but it's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. :)

Hopefully I'll revisit this one whenever I actually pick it up someday. (Pics below seen on mednafen-X played on an OG Xbawks)
