I think everyone saw this game coming. This is usually the time of year I sit down and play some Ys. December was usually that month I play this game. This game hands down has one of my top 5 soundtracks for the Turbo/PCE. Yeah the scrolling is crap, but once you start the game (to me) it kinda goes away. I always loved the voice acting (yes it's not great at all) but I still enjoy it! LoL. It adds to the charm I think it has. The game is decent in length but nothing like Ys Book I & II together. It's also on the easy side. Still I love giving this game a play through from time to time and think after last month's game this would be a good way to end the year. There was another game I was thinking of (action/platform) but went with this. It's going to be fun. I might also play this in conjunction with Felghana on PC this month. Will have the time for a change. Haha! Enjoy guys.

So, it's going to be nice doing another run through this again. BTW I find it funny how most of the scrolling is assed up. However, In one part of the Ice Mountain area (sorry i forget the name) the scrolling is smooth.

It's weird if I focus on it, but it doesn't really take away from the overall game; at least they tried to get in some parallax instead of taking the easy way out and leaving it flat. :mrgreen:

I was thinking the same. I played a bootleg when it it came out in JP, and even with the moon runes I realized it was a remake of III back then. I had fun with Origin and it's play mechanics, so might have to finally pay for it and hit up Steam. It has been a while since I cleared the TG-16 version but I recall it was pretty short. I sold my original copy decades ago due to my disappointment with it at the time...but the music was always great to me.

With holidays upon us, having a short and sweet title to play this month might be a good thing. ...or not, depending how folks free time/travel goes this year.

Ha! Did I mention that she likes 2-player co-op in Horror Story? Now, at a certain point Horror Story gets too challenging for her, but, still... I think she has the skills for Ys III...

Yes, I am hoping to convince all 3 kids to give it a try... the last time I played 4-5 player Dungeon Explorer is when I was only slightly older than they are now (20th Century).

thankfully, I have played Dungeon Explorer II with my brother (many years ago, but at least it was the 21st Century).

Hope to play it some more today. Got a new computer case so I'll probably be setting that up as well as a new phone for my wife. That's always fun. Lol. Hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Edit: Finally finished Ys 3 that night. Was a blast to play through again. Has been ages.

Post by: seieienbu on January 14, 2021, 10:41:30 PM: I played through this the afternoon after I beat Ys 2. I always thought this game was a bit of a disappointment. I beat it so easily years back that it didn't seem like the greatest successor to the legacy left by the first 2 games. With that said, it's still a worthwhile play today as it was 30 years ago. The scrolling backgrounds (aside from in town) look pretty good overall. The soundtrack is Excellent; I like it more than Felghana's. And the voice acting? Well, it's laughably bad.

All told, I'm happy to have played through it again before moving on to Ys 4.
