Title: Pc Engine cd rom player (white one from jap IFU, CDR-30A) to rescue
Post by: pipi on July 03, 2022, 07:33:38 AM
Hi all!

I bought this amazing piece of hardware I wanted to buy since... 1987 lol.
It came obviously dead but I am working on it.
It did not spin at all but I replaced the infamous gear and now it spins...
Endlessly, also with audio cd.
I remember that before putting my hands on the lens or its pots I should change some capacitors...

Which are the ones prone to fail or should I replace everything?

Thanks and long live pc engine!

Change all of the 4.7UF 25V capacitors. https://i.warosu.org/data/vr/img/0007/76/1370630144462.jpg

Those are the ones that usually cause issues in White PCE CD drives depending on the revision of the board.

If that doesn't fix it, then you probably need a replacement lens.
