Ys I and II Gets DS Makeover
The first two Ys games receives the remake treatment.
By Yoshi Sato, 10/24/2007
Interchannel-Holon plans to release a remake version of Ys I and Ys II for the Nintendo DS, according to Famitsu magazine. Ys I was originally released on the PC in 1987, followed by Ys II in 1988. The series has become a popular RPG title which spawned several more sequels and ports were also released on game consoles over the years.
The latest will be remade from the ground up as players will now see new character animations such as Adol swinging a sword (as opposed the original game where it only showed him bumping into enemies), and you will also encounter original enemies and maps in the DS version. The top screen will display the game field while the bottom screen will sport the player stats.
Other DS features include a boss fight mode and a multiplayer mode. Up to four players can compete over wireless, defeating as many enemies as possible and gathering the orbs they leave behind. Extras such as jukebox allows players to listen to their favorite tunes as well.
Unfortunately, Ys I and Ys II will not be bundled together but sold as two separate games (and each costs a whopping 5040yen, which is about $44!). Both are expected for a spring 2008 release in Japan.

Cripes! How many times are they gonna rehash this game? I'd rather that they'd make a new game with the same look and game play that this version will sport, but with a new story line (still in the Ys universe).

That's lamer than a lemur. :(

The only thing I care about is that they don't make it into 3D polys on the DS...PLEASE no 3D polys....

This one came out of left field!

Now, I just wonder, will they come out in the US, & what will the music be? From the original Eternal versions, the PS2 version, something new? Hell, will they add voice acting?
Edit-Looking closer at the pictures, it looks like they might be 2.5D, so, they wouldn't be straight ports of the PC versions. Could mean an upgrade of the music is more likely then, not to mention possible sword slash action like the last 3 Ys games, which I love!

Uhh there is thread about it all ready in chit-chat #-o
-
I hope it's the music from the Eternal OST CD, that's my favorite Ys CD EVER.
-
Why's it in Chit Chat? Dang that Bonknuts :) I hope they get Ryo Yonemitsu, to recompose all the music again! He's been doing a little bit of game music again these days, so, it'd be cool if they grabbed him.

And another one in Console / Mobile Game Development. ](*,)

Same story as when Dracula X Chronicles were announced. This forum is poorly structured! It's in dire need of some severe board-blasting! (I E removing / merging several boards).

It's not poorly structured, it is separated in topics that pertain to people who visit here. This particular forum is for console/mobile game development that is related to the NEC consoles (or NEC history) while the “Console Chat” forum is for all other non-NEC console gaming talk. Because Pcenginefx.com values NEC related console talk over non-NEC console talk, I don't want the NEC stuff to get buried under talk about the rest of the consoles out there.

Wow, it has a map. That would be pretty great since I still get lost in Y's games.

I might just wet myself. The DS has no region coding for games does it?

You are right! Wow, it feels like I JUST posted it yesterday... time goes by fast.

Anyone playing Ys US DS yet? Thoughts?
-
I just got mine in yesterday, going to fire it up here in a bit.
-
People either love it or hate it. I for one enjoy portable Ys gaming, but I am a huge Ys fan. The CD disk is a nice bonus, but not the best versions of the songs. I do appreciate the special packaging that Atlus put together for us, and the way I see it this is worth supporting.
-
I have my copy but no DS (got my preorder for a DSi). I think Atlus did an awesome job and gave us a hell of a deal on the 2 in 1.
-
Ok I am happy with the game purchase, but there are signs of a rush job on this release. My main gripe? Well remember the Lilia at the beginning of YS II (the scene after you beat Dark Fact in Ys I) and she is talking and you hear the Lilia theme? Ok on this release, when you find Lilia, you get a nice anime looking scene where she is talking to you, etc. However, as the text displays what she is saying, there is NO background music? I am like WTF! Is that why I have a music CD with this release? Am I supposed to boot up the Lilia theme as I am playing. I mean even the Famicom version has music in this scene, and the DS release it is just silent........... finally in the next couple scenes they play the Lilia theme when you awake in her house. But still, why the hell no Lilia theme? That was just odd.

It's a bug.

Mine worked.
I wonder if maybe certain DS's goon up while others dont??
strange.
*shrug*
Crappy port anyways, lol
