Title: "Hi everyone!" or "Newbies always have stupid questions"
Post by: torrente on September 09, 2008, 05:41:47 AM
Hi to all of you guys  :D

I'm an ugly froggy from France. I write awful english (sorry in advance... I know it will probably hurt some of you)

I'm glad I've found a forum dedicated to the "Nec amazing world of games"!

I bought my first PC Engine (a splendid grey CoreGrafX) Saturday at a huge garage sale in town.
It was not expensive (even cheap)

For me it's a child dream coming true as I dreamt of this fine piece of art since I was 11 years old when every boy in my class dreamt of a Nes or Megadrive!

But the reason it was so cheap, was probably due to the fact that there were no peritel with it!  :?

So I'm desesperatly searching for one.
I can't find any!!!!???!!!
It's rare in here!

What does those look like for this console?
Does it exist?
Is there only RCA composite for this model?
Is there a huge difference between the two?
Where should I find/buy one?

A friend who bought a grey CoreGrafX (same as mine), the same day, picked one with a Sodipeng adapter to connect behind the console and to link up to the TV with a peritel.
It gave him a great image quality in 16/9 without doing anything special.

Please answer me

I think you'd have better chance to find answers to your questions -especially the one concerning the sodipeng cable- on the world famous French forums : forum.necstasy.net ;)

Welcome to pcenginefx forums, the best english speaking NEC Consoles community  :P

Hi
Thanks
I would like to, but I can't register on necstasy?!
It said that my email address has been banned :-k
But I never went there before and I tried with 3 different ones  :(
Do you know why as it seems you're a moderator there?

peritel  = scart?

Composite video is standard on the pc-engine. If you want scart you'll need to modify your console. Might be worth it though, the picture quality is sharp in RGB.

If your buddy will oblige, I'd love to see some pics of this thing.  Does anyone know it this is how all of the Sodipeng imports were sold, or were they internally modded?

No problem
I'll ask him.
But I don't know when I will see him again.
It may take a few days/weeks but I'll sure send some pics.

I've went on the french forum necstasy and managed to register but I don't understand a single thing.
My console is not a Sodipeng and is not modified for RGB.
I think I'll be able to have a scart adapter to plug the composite cable in to. And I assume it will be OK.
Still have to find a 5 PIN/composite cable.
It will prevent me of buying an expensive one from Japan... I hope :(

That's okay, we have several users here who use 'interesting' english :)

but as for your question, you will need some sort of adaptor from AV to SCART. I'm not familiar with how scart works, but it shouldn't be too hard to construct a cable yourself.

AV to scart?!? I think I can help you there, I have a core grafx too and I live in the EU (technically) and what I do is use a 'scart converter' (that's what I call it) to convert the AV red white and yellow to scart, bellow is a pic of what I have currently hooked up to my TV:

I think that particular one came with my gamecube.... I know they're not difficult/expensive to find so you shouldnt have a problem tracking one down and the AV cable just seems to be a standard one you plug into a megadrive 1

Hi guys!
Thanks to all of you!  :D

I'm just at the beginning of my PC Engine journey, but it's already a fantastic trip!!!
I've played all week-end ('till my eyes bleed) to Valkyrie Densetsu, Super Star Soldier, Momotaru Katsugeki, Doraemon - Nobita's Dorabian Night, Son Son II, and Doraemon - Meikyu Daisakusen!!!
That was great!

And I finally grabbed this "AV adaptor" I told you about.
As a matter of fact, it's an RGB device made by Sodipeng when the firsts PC Engine (imported by them) hit the french market.
But they are a few 'cause Sodipeng had quickly decided to modify the consoles directly to produce a RGB signal.

Great thing is that it can be used on every Nec to have an RGB signal without opening and modifying it but it sadly prevents you to hook up the CD Rom Unit!
It also allows you to hook it up to a stereo amplifier which is really great!!

A guy, from the great french forum  Necstasy , took some pics of it and as it's the same as the one I've got, it prevents me from doing some bad photos with the crappy camera of a friend of mine!
Here are they, guys:

Thanks for the pics.  That's a decent looking adapter, though it'd be better in white.

That does look like a nice bit of kit, with the RGB boosting. Shame you say there are few of them about though.
It would look pretty on my CoreGrafx 1 too.

The fact is that you should only find it in France.
On eBay.fr I guess, but only along with a console, in a lot, I guess.
It's the only way, I think, but I found one, so you could too!
