Welcome aboard, HAR, HAAARRR, HAAAAAARRRRRR!
I decided to check out your YouTube page and was expecting some typical millenium, Virtual Console style video reviews. Of course being the world's biggest J.J. & Jeff defender, I decided to watch that one. Needless to say, my negative expectations quickly vanished! Fantastic work dude, very well done! I love the opening and ending screens - very early 90's TV-ish (which is a great thing, in my opinion). I was also relieved to see that you actually understood what makes J.J. & Jeff the brilliant game it actually is instead of immediately trashing it like most people do because they're turned off by the humor and Super Mario style control physics.
Good job on the editing too, I really like the appropriate zooming in parts and manual scans. Look forward to watching more reviews, keep up the good work!
Thanks for all your support and encouragement gang. I'm really having fun making them and it's something I've always wanted to do (I almost did back in 2000 when I dusted the system off the last time......then there was hardly ANYTHING online for the Turbo).
I might need some of your help in the future possibly. I went through the list and there are definitely about 20 games that I will not be reviewing, mainly because they are of a sport or theme that I'm not confident enough in. So, might need some guest reviewers sendin' in some scripts. :)
Thanks again!
I don't know why, but I have always passed on Splash Lake. Which is funny cause even to this day I have always been curious about. I just have never gotten around to it. Hell I haven't even seen the game in motion till seeing your wonderful review of it. Now I want to track down a copy to buy and play. These reviews are great! Thank you so much for sharing.
Just my 2 cents. I think your reviews are top notch - keep them coming. It's obvious you connect with the things that make these games really special. Keep it up!
Chris that is a fine idea. Are there any games you don't own? Can you talk a little about your process for video capture? How long it takes to put together one review? Maybe a list of upcoming titles? It would be really cool if you did like Paul and made some podcasts of your reviews. I would love to take them on the go. (Just like my PC Engine City complete set).
You got awesome reviews. Subbed to your channel days ago. I am SAGAIA2 on YT.
Give us an RPG review!!!
Cool i just watched your (DE2) review great stuff there. You cover it's pro and cons even if it is more of a update it's still a solid sequel.Give us an RPG review!!!
I gotta' be honest, I'm not the "best" at RPG's (unless they're something like Ys or Neutopia, something a little more action-based). I'll probably need some help reviewing stuff like Cosmic Fantasy 2.
Although........I just put up my Dungeon Explorer II review.......that has some RPG in it. :)
Another awesome review. I concur with your sentiments totally. DE2 is an awesome game, definitely some of the best cinematics on the system too.
You know, your review style almost reminds me of Rick Steves' Europe on the Travel Channel. Your narration style is strangely similar, you're just talking games instead of European sightseeing. LOL
Spida1a, you're pinball game room is most drool worthy. I was showing my brother, who is a big pinball fan, and he was blown away as well. 8) I loved the video of you opening up the Big Bang Bar.

LOL! Thanks!
You know, I just reviewed one of my "least" favorite games on the system (Darkwing Duck) and uploaded it to YouTube. And it's funny........I found myself getting really MAD as I read the script. I almost turned into the Angry Videogame Nerd. Amazing how a bad game can do that to you! :)
Yeah it's nice to have a true old skool gamer who can review a Turbo game and truly know what the hell he is saying, unlike all those VC n00bs.
Bump! Well spida latest review is up though this time he reviews the,pce version of ninja gaiden.

Nice Aeroblasters review! I just bought that game last week but I think ur review is spot on! Any thoughts of doing a Genesis VS Turbo comparison review?
Monster Lair review is now up also.

New Adventure Island

I like his reviews. While they’re done very well, there’s one thing in particular that I enjoy the most of the them, he kicks butt playing games. There are so many video reviewers who complain so much about difficulty, and rate games poorly based on that.
A finally got a copy of AeroBlasters yesterday and sadly the second phase of the game gives me motion sickness. Ah my stomach is in pain right now and as much as I want to keep playing this game, I think I’m going to have to give up. This whole motion sickness thing all started about a year ago, and now it’s affected my game time too. I can’t even play the Virtual Boy anymore! :(
That sucks man. I wonder if there is anything you can do before gaming that would alleviate your motion sickness. :-kI wish there was something to help me out. So far I can’t play flight simulators, Aero Blasters, the Virtual Boy and Contra 3: The Alien Wars lol.
I've been doing a few PC Engine game playthroughs on my Youtube channel (see my sig). Not proper reviews just myself fumbling through games :)
That sucks man. I wonder if there is anything you can do before gaming that would alleviate your motion sickness
Sadly, Dramamine is also an antihistamine and probably shouldn't be taken if you are on other antihistamines. Also, it tends to be drowsy-making.
I noticed, spida1a, that you did an awesome(as always :D) review of Dungeon Explorer II for the Duo. This is a U.S. release but I can't find that dang thing anywhere! The awesome group of people here recommended the japanese version but I kind of like the story of the first game and would like to continue it. I guess there are walkthroughs but I'd rather just read english. Do you or anybody else know a place to pick this up and how much?

eBay is probably the best bet. Think I saw it recently for about $20.
Yeah the first one is plentiful on eBay but I can't find the american version of II anywhere.

I feel your pain. Its one of the very few games I am missing for my collection. Personally I think if you can find it, it will probably be in the $80-$120 range.
Yeah the first one is plentiful on eBay but I can't find the american version of II anywhere. The u.s version of DEII doesn't show up offen on ebay. It's not realy rare, but when it does show up expect to pay $100.00+ if any thing at all.Unless you go with a jpn DE2...wich usely cost about $20.00 also keep in mind it's menus are in english.

Menus in english? Sounds cool.
Menus in english? Sounds cool.
I think that the english menus consist of "New Game" or "Load" after the title screen and that the in-game menus are english in the PCE version.
If anyone is willing to drop over $100 on DEII in english without playing it first, why not spend a measly $20 on the PCE first and decide if it's worth it?
Congrats then buying the pce version is one way to see if the game is for you or not.Menus in english? Sounds cool.

Sweet! I'll be checkin' this out tonight.
Thanks everyone. You guys, as always, as the absolute best!! :dance:Np man now how about a neutopia II or devil crush review
I was just playing MAME the other day and came across Cuebrick, which was released in 1989, a year earlier than Timeball for the PCE/TG. Exactly the same type of gameplay, but definitely not quite as bland as Timeball, with the colourful backgrounds and whatnot. I guess if Timeball was released as a SuperCD/CD game we would have been treated to something more along these lines.

Thanks for the reviews ! I found some games I wanna get ! 8)Kewl spida reviews of (TG16 games) are the best on yt while every body else on there is a joke.
New Turboviews: "Blazing Lazers" #36

Aha! We should compare this to the other review of Blazing Lazers, from, you know, that other thread. :)
New Turboviews: "Blazing Lazers" #36
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXqsa4T7efg
I like Blazing Lazers but think it's a bit over rated. Don't like how the first 8 levels are super easy then the last is super hard. I Much prefer Soldier Blade, Super Star Soldier, Lords of Thunder, Gate of Thunder, Aero Blasters and Air Zonk. But that's just one duders opinion.

I agree that Blazing Lazers has some flaws (for example, stage 2 is too long, easy, and should have been re-formulated).
However, Blazing Lazers still rules because you can change the difficulty (I play on "God of Game").
Trust me, you'll have a blast!
HINT: For the last stage, it becomes much, much easier once you figure out a strategy. For example, I often mess up, die, and lose all my power-ups. But that's OK, because the last stage is totally passable with nothing but a pea shooter:
1) Adjusting speed is an important strategy. Put speed to max (or near max) to quickly destroy enemies on far left/far right with pea shooter.
2) Embrace the awesome double-bass drum sound of the music. Goddamn, that's a great tune. It outclasses 99% of Red Book/modern crap.
3) Be grateful you're not playing "God of Game" difficulty level. Then you would be crying.
4) Throughout the game, collect the "blinking rainbow" power-ups to continue immediately after dying without going back to a checkpoint (the power-up that changes numbers and can be hit with your weapons...it eventually goes rainbow).
:)
Esteban, Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a shot next time I play.
Great review as always Spida1a
Difficulty Select - At the title or intro screens, hold Select then press (I, II) 10 times. This takes you to a screen where you can choose between "Hard Human" and the default "Normal Dog". Repeat the code once more to add "Super Mania" to the possible selections. Then, do the code still once more to unlock "God of the Game". Once you have your preferred difficulty selected, perform a soft reset (hold run, tap select) to exit this screen.
Your review of Deep Blue was realy good .
Thumbs up I say .

Chris seemed to have the same experience with Batman as a lot of people seem to have - initial shock/horror that it's a maze/puzzler, but later being pleasantly surprised.
what it is now is fine, but if you changed the theme to any other random theme, it would be just as good probably. :(
I want to see what it would have been like if they followed the original design plan.
I want to see what it would have been like if they followed the original design plan.
Yeah, there are so many what ifs in the NEC console universe. The NES Batman would have been pretty sweet on the PCE/TG.
Hey, thanks a lot guys. I am so glad you enjoy the show. Truly.I heard the podcast and it was cool hearing all that talk about the Turbo there. I can't believe Johnny likes Keith Courage, eh? Great reviews, keep 'em coming.
I don't get on here very often (not as much as I would like). But, I tried to mention it to everyone on the Allgengamers.com podcast when they asked me on as a gust. I'm not sure if I did very well at it. Ha ha. But, this forum is invaluable!
Thanks again!
Chris Bucci
Bucci's reviews are top notch! Curious if there is going to be a DVD series 2!! lol
I can't wait to set aside a few moments to watch GoT vid. I'll have to pop some pop corn and get a cold one!
I loved it: "Gate of Thunder.... F$#kin' Awesome!" the pause makes it.... great review for a great game.... I have never finished hehe
I've been a subscriber for a few months now. Love your reviews man. Keep it up!
Spida1 finally put up a review of the Turbo Duo! I really need to get one of these! Maybe tax time....

Ys Book 1&2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUUUI8mtf6s
Ys,was one of the reason why i got a turbo-cd in the frist place.Hell when "the egm buyers guide" rated it so highly i had to see what the fuss was about.
This guy is what made me wan to collect for the system. Great reviews
Hey guys!
I just wanted to wish all of you a happy holiday season and have a great New Year. Thanks for all the friendship and support! See you all in 2011!
Sincerely yours,
Chris Bucci
Chris is there going to be another volume of your DVD's? Perhaps a special edition coming soon? Would love to know. Happy New Years!
Hey there. Ha ha. Yes, I had already started working on Volume 2 (grabbing all the high-rez versions of the episodes together, getting some of the extras, and etc.).
So far I have the memory commentaries done and some of the music gathered together for the alternate tracks. The special features include a mixed interview with myself (and Gamester81 and PeteDorr), Turbo Views tips, edited / cut footage and audio from the first 50 vids, and hopefully much more.
Unfortunately, when I went home for the holidays, I was admitted into the hospital. It turns out I had gallstones that were blocking...blah blah...you know what...let's just say, it's a lot more complicated than they thought. So, I am pretty much stuck in PA until things are figured out here. Therefore, the DVD will be on hold until I can get back home.
I am hoping things will work out well and 2011 will be great.
:)
Don't worry about the DVD! We are a patient group, you just worry about yourself and get better!
We should all help Bucci by posting our favorite Turbo Views moments.
Here is but two of mine:
1) In the Turbo Views Extra: Turbo-CD when Chris mentions the moment he heard about a gaming system that plays CDs, most kids were like, "No Way!" The face he makes when he says that is priceless.
2) The beginning of the Gate of Thunder review. So short and sweet. "Gate of Thunder? f*ckin' Awesome!"
It was also to hear him go crazy in the Darkwing Duck review. He was usually so positive up to that point.

A nice little touch: he shows a page from the original instruction manual listing the stages with black & white screenshots... but then he superimposes actual gameplay footage over the original screenshots. Very nice :)
I never played the NES version, but now I want to check it out.
I just bought the NES version last week locally. It's very similar to the Turbo version, but IMO the controls ever so slightly tighter in the NES version.

Ooooo, the controls are even tighter? That is a good thing. I definitely have to get the NES version.
The funny thing is, I had never read about or seen the NES version back in the day. I was totally surprised it existed.
I suppose I was no longer focused on the NES universe at the time.

I was talking to Sunteam a while ago about Coryoon and I mentioned how similar the music sounds between it and Air Zonk. He said the they may have shared the same development team. That kind of threw me though. Red developed PC Denjin right? And Hudson distributed. Coryoon is credited to Naxat Soft. So did Red develop Coryoon for Naxat Soft, or did Naxat develop it internally with some of the same members from Red?
I swear the same exact team worked on both games!
I swear the same exact team worked on both games!
That's because it was the same team; Air Zonk is essentially a reskinned Coryoon.
You know what I am hoping for Chris? That when you finish Vol 2 that you not only offer it on DVD, but also offer Vol 1 + 2 on Blu-Ray.
I would be awesome to have a Blu-Ray case with some fine art and a nice logo on the disc! Lots of bonuses like FLAC versions of the music, etc.
Whoa, had no idea. What's the link?
Love the reviews and production value. You've got a great voice for this type of show, reminds me of the Phantom Gourmet T.V. show in Boston:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GOlhNRsqcA&feature=fvst
Keep up the great work, i'll keep watching.
Thanks guys....I appreciate it!!!
Cotton surprised me because it was TICKING ME OFF big time. But, I kept going back to it over and over and over and over. I usually don't fall for the "beat things a second time to get the game's credits" bull. The problem was....I couldn't stop! So, I raised it a half star and I'm glad I was able to share my defeating of the second pass on default with you guys (will NEVER happen again, ha ha).

Working on the "strangeness that is" Bravoman review (hopefully uploaded sometime Saturday afternoon). And....a special favorite of mine for Halloween evening (...grabs whip...). Thanks all!
I know I said in private already on YouTube, but I really want to thank you for these reviews. It's not often that I buy homebrew DVD's(in fact the last ones were the Retroware Seasons 1 and 2), but I HAD to buy yours as they were jam packed and looked professionally done. BTW, I have a Blu-Ray burner. If you need someone to burn Blu-Rays for you, if you could make the disc images, I could burn them no problem. I don't know how to make custom menus or I'd master them myself for you. You could probably get around $30 for the Blu-Ray sets(discs go for about $2 a disc now), so it's something to think about.
If you want to master them yourself, here's the machine I use:

1 of the all time greatest imports EVER. Makes me wanna go home and play my copy of Dracula X TONIGHT. Infact I WILL.
Thanks Chris. Hey any chance when your next issue of Turbo Views Vol 3 comes out we can see yu toss in the original review you did and your Mag you made for it? AWESOMENESS My friend.

I think Bucci is more concerned with showing his love for the Turbo than making any sort of profit, or building a customer base. But, as a pure fan of the Turbo I am sure he would gladly admit you into his ranks. :)
Thanks guys...I REALLY appreciate it.Hopefully you'll listen to your viewers clamoring for that old vid and share it! Just so you know, my wife loves the Angry Video Game Nerd's old vids that he shared.
Well, I have to be honest, the stuff I did back then was pretty bad. So, I don't think I can stomach providing it. Ha ha. :)
Ha ha. Well.....if I can make a "wife" happy....I guess I better consider it rag-time4. Perhaps look for it this weekend.Well, women in general seem to have a fetish for absolutely humiliating their men by showing kid pics and old vids!
Although, I wouldn't mind appealing to some "single" girls once in a while. :)

Dracula X (1994 video): Wow, this early endeavor is the genetic blueprint for the current videos Chris makes. Crazy! Plus, the posters for Police Academy (Moscow? Moscow? What?) and the horrible movie with Chevy Chase are hilarious.
Ha ha. Well....thanks guys. I cringed at the thought of showing it (obviously I edited down my host segments a bit....hence the "flip" transition I obviously didn't have back-then). But, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I did a Super Mario World tape like this once and a few others.....mostly for fun. I always liked creating stuff....artistic ADD. Ha ha. :)
Chris is an upstanding guy. And his Turbo Views are done very well. I've watched my set more than I should admit.
I agree. No one does unbiased reviews as well as Chris. I have two copies of Turbo Views vol. 1 (One to watch and one sealed).
Didn't know he was a member here until I saw this revived thread.

Ahh a game i realy enjoyed in the arcades and i think the TG16 version is one of the best ports still.
Yeah. It may not look identical to the arcade version but, there some points in the TG16 version where they enhanced the graphics over the arcade version and kept the 4 player capability, while the Genesis version just allowed up to two players and an over all choice of only 2 characters.

You mean four characters in the Turbob, as it's a two player game like on the Genny.
I thought I said that. What do you mean exactly?
Are you sure?
Doesn't the TG16 version say on the box somewhere that up to 4 people can play together?
100% sure and 85% new.

Nope - it says "Number of Players: 1 or 2 - One TurboTap and additional TurboPads required for multi-player use. (http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/9/588919_57036_back.jpg)"

I've barely been keeping track of prices lately. Can't spend too much right now, so I've just been enjoying what I already own. But every time I peek and check current prices, they seem to just be getting worse and worse. Oh well!

Very true SMF and thanks for updating TRON. Thanks for the support as always! :)No problem any disney fan should see tailspin and avoid it for the TG16
I also enjoyed the game when I was younger. I'll have to try it out again to see if I still like it now.
For my birthday (when i was 6) I had the choice of getting Talespin or Yo Bro... went for Talespin... I think I made the right decision, haha
Hey TRON...it was fun...I was on "Skype" talking to another PodCast guy about doing his show. And literally Johnny said, "HEY...you around...we need a guest." I said, "Um...." Next thing I'm connected and BAM we're starting to talk....lol!Realy heh they joke about having you on again and i did wounder when that would be.The guys at (allgengamers) didn't waste time did they lol! Any ways, looking forward to listening to the whole thing when it's put up later in the week.
I just listened to the "teaser" (which is...the first ten minutes of the show). It is funny...we talk a bunch about TurboGrafx in it as well as pinball and other stuff. Yet in the teaser...this is NONE of that. Ha ha. :)Talk of TG16 and pinball in it huh good two of my favorite things then.

Yes, thanks to Mathius....we had an ending!! :)Congrats beating the game finally spida1a now how about a review of dynastic hero next ?
It is funny because...the way the video originally ended...I took the chip out, stopped the end review credits, and destroyed the broken chip. Almost AVGN-ish. Just despondent and upset (which I truly was). I had HAD it.
Halfway into editing, I picked up the new copy of SSS for FUN and beat the game some random day (recording all of stage 8 in anticipation). So excited, I re-wrote the ending and decided to do a slight "homage" to King of Kong since it ended almost the same, near the end of editing it was defeated and changed the outcome. Ha ha.

Just watched the SSS vid, another excellent review! Cheers Chris 8)
Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Funny....I still have the broken SSS game. I should auction it and call it "spida1a's nightmare!" :)

Noooooooooooooooooooo....
I'm sitting on JB Harold and Sherlock Holmes 1 and 2 waiting for enough time to devote to playing them. Back in the Turbo CD/Sega CD days I despised these FMV style games, but my tastes in games have "broadened" with age so I'm going to give these a try eventually. Excellent review as always!

J.B. Harold rocks and holds up well today. No FMV. You will like it.
NOTE: iOS versions exist for several JB Harold games...all but one is in English, though, and I can't get very far without asking myself, "What the hell are you doing?" stumbling around menus and clues. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

JB Harold has been on my wishlist for awhile. It has kind of become harder to find in the last year or so.
Hey, thanks for your great compliments. I truly appreciate it. I am planning a 3rd volume when we get to episode #75 (which...isn't too far away so perhaps early next year). The box idea sounds cool. Looking foward to that. marking the calendar Fall 2032.
I like your "jewel case" idea. I'll have to look into that for the future. One thing is...there will be 6 total DVD volumes (almost like, a TurboGrafx video encyclopedia). And, a friend of mine who works for a DVD manufacturing company is actually designing a "case" to hold all 6 volumes perfectly for me. On the artwork side it will look like the original TurboGrafx box. It's really cool. I'm lucky to have awesome friends.
So...in twenty years when I finished the series (ha ha)...I'm hoping he'll still be alive (ha ha) to help me make the case. Lol!
Thanks! Your support is always appreciated and awesome.

No way. Final Soldier is nearly as good as Soldier Blade. WTF is wrong with it. Graphics, music, gameplay, all excellent. Soldier Blade wins by just a hair.
Im with mathius for the most part... But for me Super Star Soldier is my fave of the series. I played through Final Soldier my first afternoon sitting down with it. I found it far too easy with only a couple spots that had decent action. I agree with Mathius that the powerups were boring... In particular the flame weapon was far less interesting than SSS. Ive cleared soldier blade too and found that game boring an easy as well. Nicer graphics and art than final soldier but the fun factor just wasnt there. SSS is probably the only one I'll ever revisit. No way. Final Soldier is nearly as good as Soldier Blade. WTF is wrong with it. Graphics, music, gameplay, all excellent. Soldier Blade wins by just a hair.
Super Star Soldier was my first experience with the Soldier series, and while it's not my favorite shooter on the console it has all the ingredients necessary for a good shootie experience. Final Soldier was next on my list. I liked the game but felt it was too easy and the power-ups weren't as interesting. Killer music as always though. Finally, I picked up Soldier Blade. The first time I played it I felt as if I was playing a 32-Bit shooter. Seriously. The graphics were sharper and more detailed, the weapons were fascinating, and the music rocked my knuckle hairs off. :)
As for me: SB > SSS > FS.word! 8)
This is why I love his reviews... never would have thought to pick this one up til I saw this. Looks like a fun game!
Hee hee! Just watched the video finally. Every time a new Turbo Views comes out it's like visiting an old friend you don't see but a few times a year. Bucc, glad to see you back!
Yep, all of his DVDs are top notch. I've watch 'em multiple times.
Thanks for the kind words guys. As always.
Life is going great now. The problem is...I just have zero time since I've doubled my work hours to pay for...the reason life went to crap in the first place. Lol! (Can't win anyway you slice it sometimes, ha ha).
But....I'll always be back until the entire U.S. line-up is reviewed. I'm very stubborn when I set a goal. :)
Thanks for the support and all the great friendships over the years!!

Here is the latest Victory Run. I am not sure why YouTube has "stretched" my video to the incorrect aspect ratio. I am using the same settings, same file format, same EVERYTHING as always. And.....that is bugging the hell out of me....you have NO idea. But, I'm not re-uploading it again. Ha ha.
Thanks everyone as always.

Ha ha, Carparama. Indeed! And that is the great part about this whole "review" thing...you'll do things one way, I'll do things another way. And in the end...we go...what the what huh? ;)
Thanks EvilEvoIX. I am not a professional. But I try to be as detailed, honest and precise as I can so that way...even if you don't agree with me...you'll know where I'm coming from. You know? And hopefully, those who have never played any of the games before can form their own opinion about it based on what they see/hear. Not sure if I pull it off all the time...but, what can ya' do?
Ha ha. The nice part is, the video quality captured via the Handycam won't look any better than it does. It converts it to digital, sharpening it up making it look even better than it would coming out onto the TV via S-Video (it also cut down on any analogue noise pumping into it, which is a great thing). So...we're good to go. :)
I love Turbo Views! It is the primary reason why I just bought a PC-Engine Duo.
Yep, all of his DVDs are top notch. I've watch 'em multiple times.
Me too. I get as big of a nostalgia boost from his DVDs as I do actually playing Turbo.
Huzah !! New review finally !!
Fantasy Zone

Great to see Turbo Views is back, was wondering where he had gone. :DThe black hole know as job
I'm waiting for him to review Double Dungeons. I never thought it deserved all the hate it gets. Sure it's simplistic, but after a few levels, it grows on you and, while repetitive, the gameplay can be kind of addicting. I'd give it at least a 3. I'm curious what he thought of it.
Another great ep. Fantasy zone was my first game when i got my turbo grafx a few years back. A fun little shooter indeed
I can't believe watching an episode of this makes me actually want to play Power Gorf!Since you have a (neo-geo mvs) now id suggest a loose copy of (neo turf master) even more
Thanks guys! Glad you're enjoying it still. Hard to believe it's been 5 years so far. Ha ha. :)Enjoyed everyone so far. I made the mistake of trying to catch up on your pinball vids. Man, that sucks hours of my life away and I'm not even near the end of them. Great stuff! :)

I see Mysterious Song save files on the backup RAM screen ;)
Just placed my pre-order for Vol 3 of Turboviews :-)
Just got my copy of TurboViews Vol. 3 today! Thanks for all your hard work, Bucc!
Ps- And a giant thank you to Esty for the work he's done as well. You're awesome, brother. :)
It's great. I was listening to the podcasts on the extras disc the other night and my wife walks in and asks "What, is there a turbografx talk radio station now?!" It made me chuckle. :)
Thanks everyone! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Turbo Podcast? Hmm.............. ;)

I'd froth at the mouth for a Bucci Turbo Podcast. :D

spida1a, as you may know I am an assistant manager here at this forum. I have decided to put in a request for you to get a raise. Probably won't go through, though.
Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Been a tough couple years .. this doesn't help. Ha ha.
Hey Esteban! Did I miss a message or e-mail from you? If so, SO sorry...resend!
Thanks,
Chris
Okay yeah ... I never got that one is appears. Ugh!
Yeah, I just saw your comment. Dude .. I love your passion for CW (something I never had for it myself). Can you possibly do a video-response and talk about the game like that? I would gladly link it to my video! Do they still do video responses on YT? I don't even know. Lol.
Later!
Chris
Will we actually get to see Esteban in a moving picture? Well I'll be!

Ha ha! Well ... there are a good handful of games I "am awful at that are way out of my area of gaming interest" so ... I will be soliciting some help on those reviews (to make sure we get some integrity and information). I can tell you that M&MIII is one of 'em. :)
I volunteer. Just trade me your copy in exchange for my service and we've got a deal!

It's a trap! Be sure that you and Nullity are in full agreement on the definition of "service" in this arrangement.
I am ashamed of myself. I haven't even taken the time to watch the last two vids....cuz I hate those games so much.... :(
Oh, well let it be known, he does not push his opinion on a game. His views are his, and he lets that be known. Buccis videos are a great way to figure out if you wanna buy a game actually.
Valis III is up.
http://youtu.be/-y1yf61WWoc
Lol. Yikes. Uh .... mission accomplished???? Haha. :)Yes you are heh valis III voice acting is so bad it makes a great mystery science 3000 episode
Makes me remember having to continue playing Valis 3 where I left last year. Or was it even another year before? Oh well.
Great videos by the way, I enjoy them everytime and appreciate that you share your honest opinion in a comprehensible way. One thing that I think stands out very positively against other gaming channels is your voice and your pacing. Keep on with your reviews and thank you so much.

KING OF CASINO!!!!!
If I had an Express I'd totally play this instead of solitaire on my phone on road trips.
Let's just say when i had friends over i would make jokes on how bad valis III va was :wink:Lol. Yikes. Uh .... mission accomplished???? Haha. :)Yes you are heh valis III voice acting is so bad it makes a great mystery science 3000 episode
The English dub is pretty bad! But for some reason I still love it, maybe it's because I played it in English first. Granted, I did eventually got the PC Engine version and played it in all it's Japanese-y glory but the English version just has a certain, cheesy charm to it. Valis III is easily my favorite.
KING OF CASINO!!!!!

THIS!!!
A lifetime ago, when I was going to college, I had a long break between classes one semester, but I lived far enough away that it wasn't worth driving home, so I'd sit in my car and play King of Casino on the Express. That was the best part of that semester. :)

That is seriously awesome! If I would have had an Express back in college I would have done the exact same thing with Casino and the Crush series thrown in for fun :D
Any news on any new episodes? :DYou can't rush genius.

Last I heard of Chris, he was thinking of deactivating his Facebook account citing a "broken heart..." I and others commented thumbs down on the idea and I think he just deleted the thread later. Anyway, doubt he's thinking about a new episode as of late.

But there's still half the library to review :( I just recently got hooked on Turbo Views with that catchy rocking theme song intro. If I had to make one complaint I'd say spida is too kind to the bad games.

What does the message ~"See you Summer '90" mean? It's at the end of the credits...
Cyber Core.
I posted this open question:QuoteWhat does the message ~"See you Summer '90" mean? It's at the end of the credits...
the next game release maybe? download? ?????????? I am so curious now. ??????????
Nice review. I like Cyber Core, maybe not the greatest game, but It's fun. And as far as Music goes I always felt this game was under-appreciated.
AM I only one who will now spend the day playing cyber core. . . and probably ever other game that;s chatted about on here
I love bugs, and I love shmups, but there's something lackluster about this game that I can't quite place...maybe it's the size of the player sprite? I hate shmups with an unnecessarily large player ship...unless it's a mech. Then, it's somehow excusable...

As always, your Turbo videos are the best on YouTube!
I don't know enough about YouTube to know if it helps you or not, but after watching about 15-20 of these last night for the first time, I went ahead and subscribed to your channel. you have some REALLY good stuff here.

What? how have you missed these until now??? For what it's worth I always thought it was REALLY good because Chris REALLY cares and loves the games/system. (well maybe not all the games - I'm looking at you falcon - okay this is just me)
I enjoyed your recent video on Valis 4 and the remake of Valis. These games look interesting. As someone that enjoys these types of games I was wondering one thing. I don't have any of these games in the series. What would be a good one to track down and start with?

Same here. Love spida's work, I've pretty much watched all of them and usually check them out again after I make it through the game in question. Hope he can find more time to get through more of the library, since there are a lot of classics still left waiting in the wings.

I'm waiting for DRAGON'S CURSE, DYNASTIC HERO, SOLDIER BLADE, VEIGUES TACTICAL GLADIATOR, TIME CRUISE (since he's such a fan of pinball games), SAMURAI GHOST, DOUBLE DUNGEONS, FINAL ZONE II and as a guilty pleasure, NIGHT CREATURES.

Not entirely true...he has admitted in reviews to not completing games. See R-TYPE and DEEP BLUE for examples.

So how come the CD version of this goes for so much? It's probably not because it's an awesome game that everyone is clamoring to get. I assume the availability wasn't very good originally or a smaller print run as opposed to the turbochip or something like that. Bonk III is sort of similar, right? I don't think the chip version is cheap or anything, but the CD version is considered the rarer or at least more valuable of the two, right? I'm just speculating, I could be wrong but thought there might be some kind of parallel with these dual format releases. I know Bonk III belongs to that 1993-TTI-is-dying club where every game released at the end of the system's US lifespan had limited production. Did I forget about any other dual format releases? That's all I can think of.
Return of the Mack.

Thanks as always!! ;)
Great videos Chris I really enjoy them. I watched them all earlier this year as I was getting back into playing turbo.
Much appreciated and Happy Thanksgiving!

You should get the DVD sets Chis offers. They include a ton of bonus stuff. The wife and I watch them several time over. Very good way to get an honest feel for a game before buying.

Love it. Have had a lot of fun with this game and was hoping it would one day be covered by Chris. As an aside, there really needs to be a poll for worst early CD game acting - between this, Valis II, Last Alert and Dragon Slayer alone there is a lot of competition.I add Ys III to that list as well.

It's a shame to the TG16 deserve better when it came to a wrestling game.

I have never actually played the game, it looks good but the way Chris described the game doesn't even want me to give it a chance! :)
I have never played that game either and from what Chris said I may pass as well.
The moves seemed so overly complicated and when "select" is used in game play it's never a good idea.
Thanks for sharing, commenting and supporting the series all of these years so far.
I hope all of you guys at the PC-Engine FX Forums had a wonderful holiday and have a great New Year! :)

Stage 4 Asteroids is still the toughest stage for me. My strategies are LAME and I always get slammed by speeding asteroids or a cluster of asteroids/bullets. Ha! It's sad, but I just never figured out a good strategy.
The final two stages are very doable for any shootemup fan (IMHO). In other words, the final two stages are challenging, but FAIR, and it isn't too hard to devise strategies (countering the constant barrage of tiny homing missiles in Stage 5's maze is easy for me compared to the asteroids).
Don't be fooled by the final stage—a lot of the crazy chaos on the screen can be easily avoided (you just need to find a "narrow path" through everything, you don't have to build a high score). STAGE 6 = Gradius skills will aide you.
Old_Rover (nodtveidt) has an excellent post/thread about the differences between Sinistron (NA) and Violent Soldier (JP).
I will leave it to a Sirch-Fu Guru to fynde the olde threade.
I enjoyed the episode, beat the game within the rental period as a kid, so over a weekend. Can't remember if it was frustratingly difficult, but I know I beat it back then. Is Chris as bad at videogames as James the Angry Video Game Nerd is ? ;)

Thanks Groover. I think so far ... of the games that are "beatable" ... I'm batting about 83% in beating them for reviews. The ones I can't I try REALLY REALLY hard. Lol! :)

What was inaccurate in his article? Honest question. I see a lot of HG101 hate here but most of his reviews seem to align with what I've read here and on TBD.
Yeah, ole Punchy Punch probably won't respond now as he does in other cases when questioned about the snipes/shots he takes.

Honestly every time there's a multiple port comparison it's always obvious they just played the "lesser" versions for 10 minutes each. The Darius article comes to mind, some minor stuff here and there but I'm not the one named "Hardcore Gaming 101" :P
Sometimes they do it for the "main" games of an article too. Some don't even go beyond the obvious, low hanging fruit. I think they're the best in highlighting some obscure games to western audiences and when they actually do some decent research (almost everything that came from their kickstarter is gold regardless of John's drama).

Didn't have nothing to do with DoxPhile and I haven't noticed you being "roasted."
That's because I'm not eating your provocations. Wait maybe I did that just now. oh

You've been needling/trolling me for some time now on this forum, so it's cute to have seen you claim you feel "everyone's trying to roast me all the time" or I was the provocateur when I just wanted share the Sinitron article to complement Chris' video. I have lots of problems with HG101 myself as I mentioned already, but I don't know this particular article's author, he's not John (always a plus), and it seems alright to me. Do I have to explicitly tell you to f--k off already or are you getting the hint ?
To me, the majority of articles written on HG101 are alright. Better than other reviews on the more commercialized gaming websites. For those games that I like, e.g. the Parodius, Mega Man, Gradius, Valis and Puyo Puyo writeups, the author's opinions pretty much matches with mine. Others maybe not that much, but that's just fine to me, I accept that tastes are different.

spida1a, how much of your footage capture is from live hardware and how much is done through emulation? I was wondering if you could just cheat your way through on the latter.
SavagePencil ... I play my games on an actual TurboDuo and record the footage through an old SONY Handycam Digital-8 Camcorder. Then, I capture that footage into my computer (making script notes as I do) and "up-convert" the final video slightly for YouTube upload. So .. I have never used emulation but rather the actual hardware to play every game in my review from day one. :)
Thanks!
Chris
Hey, thanks Gredler! I appreciate that, I truly do.

Well, I mean ... it is probably an old-fashioned, outdated way of doing things. Ha ha! But, that's the way I started doing the series back in 2008 / 09 and I just continued the same way. I like playing the games using the original hardware (so I can put myself back in that time). Plus, it helps me to take "notes" as I capture the footage as to things I want to make sure to mention in the review itself. You know?
Although ... my Digital8 camcorder only goes out via Firewire into the computer. So, I had to pickup a FW card when I updated the computer. Doh! :)
Nothing bad with camcorders and dvd players, if I recall correctly that's how most of the AVGN episodes' game footage were made, with just a simple DVD player + recorder bonus.
XZROnly if you're playing it on the MSX
Turbo Views,ExileOh hey, I was looking for a game to play through before the fall semester starts next week. Looks like a replay of Exile is in order..

Back when the oval office wasn't oval and had a giant flag painted on the wall, and you had to be careful not to hit your head when going through the door. Good times.
edit: seriously, the time travelling aspect of the original game is interesting, if I understand it right the game had you going after the US president and the USSR PM in the "90's", that would have been fun to do in the PCE version.

Ok, so how should we pronounce Veigues?
Another great review and much appreciated.
I always called it "vay-guess" bitd.My pronunciation is close to this. V guess is how I pronounce it. Probably totally off

I've always said it like the word vague. Vaygz.

Same here.
While not at the level of the Crush games, it is still a pretty solid pinball simulation.
Just 5 more till the DVD :)
It was always questionable but ... at this point, volume 4 will follow the previous (with 25 reviews). The final volume will have the final 35 (at least that is the plan, ha ha).
Who knows ... by then DVDs will be dust and we'll have them implanted directly into the brain. :)
Way better than the crush games. And shame on bucci for not including all the trippy 3d balls demo modes.
Thanks for the support and for watching as always gang!
About 40 some more to go ... hard to believe. Ha ha

Dam this review, I now have the Time Cruise soundtrack stuck in my head
Another great review. This immediately reminded me of Klash Ball, specially the dull sad graphics. Klash Ball at least wasn't that messy.
Best game, great review, thanks for another rad video!
I have always liked his reviews. Makes me actually go back and play games I don't usually think about playing.

Hey Chris,
Thanks for your Turbo Views, very fun and informative show. Will you do reviews for other video game system when you run out of games to talk about for Turbo?
When he runs out of Turbobs he'll move on to PCE.
