Title: PC Engine Retrocade
Post by: Arkhan on October 18, 2009, 08:43:58 PM
More work on PCE Retrocade has begun'd

There is a prototype of Joustaroo going.  Its turning out alright.

On top of the nearly done PacMan, and start of Jungle Hunt.

Expect some visuals after Insanity launches, and the website is redesigned.

For now though:

The list:

PacMan
Joust
Defender
Jungle Hunt
Skate or Die 2 Ramp
Insanity Deathmatch <<<<<!!!!!!!

seems to be the list.

I don't know if you take requests, but simpler classics I'd like to see revamped include:

Night Stalker
Tempest (bit difficult)
Shark! Shark! (you could use darius sprites!)
Fire Truck
Adventure!

Joustaroo is turning out interesting.   Im thinking there might be a nice prototype on display at the show.

Adventure? As in, the text adventure? How the hell would you pull that off on the Turbo?

Nah he means ADVENTURE for the atari!

run around and grab little doodads and get the chalice and return to the castle.  Nothin fancy. But hey, its OLD!     It might be pretty comical to do a Turbo version

Depending how well the current line up goes, a few other suggestions could be added.

Pengo was one of the good ones. and only ONE person emailed me about it.

Venture is the other one.

Venture fking rules.

Wizard of Wor
Ladybug
Crazy Climber
Haunted House

we ruled out Marble Madness early on because the game just aint right without a trackball (see NES version!)

as for the others, Donkey Kong and Wizard of Wor are both possibilities.

I myself love yars revenge, but its one of the emptiest games ever. :(  If you could propose some good way to enhance that game past the two repetitive levels, Im interested!

Yars' Revenge gets a lot of variation as the game progresses. The Qotile gets new attack methods, the neutral zone disappears, etc. I've wanted to remake this game myself but never got around to it. I've also wanted to remake Adventure...man that game was mad fun back in the day and still is now.

maybe Yars could use a bit of turboing.

Yes, but it was kinda plain, had no Turboness (no Bonk/Bomberman/whatever theme), lacked a multi-player mode, and most importantly wasn't released on a honest-to-goodness pressed disc.  I can understand you wanting to stick to virgin territory, but a guy can still dream.  :)

Venture, a must if it can be included.  A great big detailed smiley face with a bow & arrow, nothing better!

Basically since Insanity went well, its time to smash more arcade games onto a disc!

I didn't recall this title, but your description forced me (at gunpoint) to check it out on youtube.  I have to admit, though it looks like the slightly retarded outcome of a ménage à trois between Berserk, Faceball 2000, and Adventure, it also looks like a lot o' fun.  8)

Going back to the original post, I vote to drop Skate or Die and replace it with something like Zookeeper. Based on what I've seen in this thread, I'm sure there's some love for a turboized Zookeeper here :).

Off topic: I want to update Lode Runner and create a "FPD" (first person digging). Yes, I am sick of the FPS genre. It needs less guns and more digging.

And I revote it back to Skate of Die :D  I don't know what Zoo Keeper is, & plus, I think Arhan is really looking forward to doing Skate or Die(the ramp from Skate of Die 2 to be more specific), & I'm looking forward to it majorly, it's something I've wanted for a loooooong time!

Zookeeper is an odd game.

you run around in a square and block up holes and jump over shit.

its fun, but I don't think I particularly want to do that one :-/

Fair enough. :)

I humbly request that Arkhan recycles the Skate or Die stuff to create a separate mini-game inspired by Yo' Bro, but with better controls (i.e. aiming your weapon should be less obnoxious). The tagline for this mini-game: "OLLIES + ZOMBIES! Oh my!"

... but I don't think I particularly want to do that one :-/

No problem :).

I humbly request a "career mode" option in Skate or Die: Turbo Edition. In this mode, the player has to raise funds for the half-pipe to be constructed. Shunned by most employers, skaters earn $$$ by helping the local zoo trap all the animals that, inexplicably, escape on a regular basis.

As it turns out, skateboarding + animal control are a match made in heaven.

Hmmm, I guess I'm just in a Lode Runner/Zookeeper mood. Despite their differences, there is a spirit that links these games together... it's kind of morbid, but they both seem to be inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.

Maybe it's time to keep a running tally of how many votes for each.  And no, the same person can't keep voting and re-voting and re-re-voting!  Display the tally in a simple text listing here in the post area.

You know what game would be fun on the Turbo?  Montezuma's Revenge.  If somebody with more talent than me were to get that going...well...that'd just be great.

Just sayin'.

Aw, now that I see it, I remember Zoo Keeper, I like that game!  In any case, it would be cool if there was some kind of career mode that Esteban mentioned, it doesn't have to be a HUGE adventure(not that the original was), but, it's something worth thinking about :D
