Awesome man, congrats.  Will you be offering a download code discount to the community?  I assume it's XBL right?

Nice! Count me in, especially for some 4 player Insanity co-op :)

Get back to work on your PCE game though, Pyramid Plunder feels neglected.

I'm sure sending him $100's for dev will hasten the process

Not really. Money would be nice, but the holidays are coming and time is being devoted to 'real life'.
BTW, we really need hardware to test on....

Pyramid Plunder is like done.  Keranus doing the new sprites, then its just a matter of finishing the tunes, and making sure the game plays right lol.   Id put it at 99.9% myself.  maybe 99% even.

I think if its possible ( dunno how it works )  I will give everyone here a discount on Insanity X.   You all made it possible, so you deserve some discounting.

and yeah another Duo of some kind to do testing on would be good.

Dangit!  PSN PSN PSN!  Seriously though, I wish it were easier or whatever to put stuff up on there, or atleast WiiWare, I just really don't want to get online with my 360.

I'm confused, is this going to be a Xbox Live download only game or a stand alone disc?

Xbox download.

From what I understand (I may be wrong), you can get stuff off the XBL store without a live subscription.

Hmm, that's cool then, as I especially don't care about playing games online, however, I just remembered I would need M$'s hard drive, as well as a wireless adapter(though, I could probably find a long cable to my modem I suppose).

I see 20GB HDs selling for like $20 or less nowadays, because everyone updated to the bigger ones.  I imagine that Insanity X, even with all of its awesomeness, should be able to fit into a 20GB HD.

You can access the XBox marketplace to buy software, video, avatar items with a (free) Silver account.

Paid (gold) accounts are required mostly for on-line multiplayer and extra features (I think) like Facebook/twitter/netflix.

Cool, thanks. I haven't had time to check up on these things lately. I actually sold my last 360 this past week after replacing the heat-synch pads.

Really?  I know there's a black-out period where only Gold users can play newly available game demos.  But after that blackout period silver accounts can play them?  I seem to remember being able to download older demos.

Silver accounts defiantly can play demos, just not all of them. Not sure what the restriction is.

I believe the wait time is generally two weeks until non-gold members can download demos. But yeah, to download a demo does not require a gold account.

Of course :)

The gameplay has been improved and tweaked a bit .

The sequel game (With epic graphics), is going to have a better soundtrack.  I'll probably make a teaser for it.  I've finished most of the songs already

Hey, congratulations :).

Surely, this must be the first PCE homebrew --> XBL port, in, like, ever?

I've been M.I.A. for a long time and I was wondering what I would be "surprised" to find... thus far, this thread is the best surprise :)

Eventually they do, not that it really matters because by the time you hit the Orange guys, you start getting lazerraped.

Its a problem I ended up addressing in Insanity X.

The original Berzerk doesn't really have super fast walking robots ever either.  They do start to come a bit faster, but the lazers demolish you before it matters :)

You could try Hyper Mode.   The robots are on coke in that mode.

You know, it doesn't matter, it still pains my heart. I know I shouldn't be selfish, but I wanted it to be BIRTHED on the PCE, then ported to other platforms (if any).

Well right now Insanity X is now just "Insanity" and is just a port with a bit of improvement.   I plan to release that by itself as I work on the new game.  Getting art/stuff for the new game is top priority so it doesn't look like some smartass, obnoxious programmer didn't just slap whatever he could manage together as art.

I think?  I am not 100% on how it works.  I think that is what I read.

But as far as points go, the 1$ amount.  I think that would be a fair price, considering there are better games visually for 1$, and others that play a bit better too maybe.

If it does well, (sells as many or more as I did for the PCE), I will bump the price of the sequel game up to TWO dollars!

Arcade Mode
Hyper Mode

Why you ask?

Because YOU ALL SUPPORTED THE TURBOB RELEASE AND SO YOU DESERVE EXCLUSIVE COMTENATNENTS FOR THE GOGLING.

bonus OBEY points if you got all the references in that.

It STILL isn't showing up on my 360 menu on the XBLA store. But I just realized something, I'm a silver not a gold member. Perhaps my Silver status effects what I see on the store?

Weird.  I can find it if you go to indie games and go by newest, or by the letter I.

hmmm

It STILL isn't showing up on my 360 menu on the XBLA store. But I just realized something, I'm a silver not a gold member. Perhaps my Silver status effects what I see on the store?

OH.

yes, silver means you cant see it for like, 2 weeks or some stupid horse shittery.

I like the PCE version more because I keep running into walls on the 360 :P

The 360 version also has more obvious bugs (such as vanishing through walls when a screen starts). It's still pretty cool though.

Yeah, it was an interesting "glitch" I accidentally'd while stopping wall collisions while invincible.
I left it in because it made me laugh.

I like doing it in the boss battle level, you get randomly thrown around the room to a new spot.

its not a bug, ITS A FEATURE!

Seriously :D I could've took it out but left it, lol.

The reason you hit walls is because the game controls faster like so many people asked!

I actually sized the bounding boxes down so you can be a little more lazy.  lol

here's this review too

of Insanity X.

If you want to call it a review.

some funny drama happened with this video on GameMarx's actual site.  The video is featured there, but I found on it YouTube also !

http://www.gamemarx.com/video/trials/112/insanity-x.aspx   Here's the site version.

A friend found the video after the CCAG at my house and watched it and we all laughed at how stupid the guy talking was for numerous reasons.

He apparently posted a comment from my computer (probably while I was playing Aldynes, and saying THERES NO f*ckING HELMET IN BERZERK).  Apparently he let auto-fill do its thang (as a guest poster).

The reviewer talking accused him of being me which is a funny accusation since it auto-filled my casual email, not Aetherbyte's.  Bold accusations from Mr. Know It All.

So I responded as well and he goes I SEE THE IP OF POSTS, DROP THE ACT.   That's when the light clicked on and I went "k, time to find which friend commented from my house yesterday!"

My friend got on and responded again from his Facebook, some other random dude posted, also slamming the review for being shit, and the recovering drug addict looking reviewer didn't reply again, probably because the combined efforts of 3 people on his piddly, barren site, made him look like a clueless twit.    He never did defend any of the things we said that implied he had no idea what he was talking about, probably because the cat was already out of the bag, and he went off to go make another video.

The reviewer says he played a lot of Berzerk, its one of his favorites, and he fancies remaking it.  I hope he never does attempt given his comment on the "debug line left by the developers on the Atari 2600".

Note how they constantly reference Atari 2600.  I think they have no idea it was an arcade game.  One you put quarters into and stand there and play!

Its fine that hes an avid Berzerk fan, I got excited and thought hey, maybe a Berzerk fanatic will dig this game here in this review or give some kind of reasons why it didn't hold up to the legend..

Boy was I wrong, because EVERYTHING HE SAYS ABOUT BERZERK AFTER THAT IS f*ckING WRONG.

The review started off like it would be decent, but snowballed into typical "n00bs trying to be retro" ignorance.  He didn't even know about the Turbob version.  Anyone whos got a clue about retro knows about the Turbob.

There is no helmet in Berzerk.  He even posts an Atari 2600 box shot saying SEE THE HELMET?   No, I don't see the helmet.  I see a partridge family lookin' doof in a jump suit with a toy gun, basically.

He was unaware of Otto in Berzerk and he wasn't sure if you could just exit rooms in Berzerk.  FFS.  I think HE should drop the act.  He was alive when Berzerk came out and has no clue wtfs going on.  That's not right.  Stop pretending you know retro games.

Go watch the video and read the comments, if you are that interested in seeing the details of what went down, lol.  I like how the girl was accused of being drunk.

I browsed the site some more and found other reviews where you can SEE the people from Insanity X's video.

http://www.gamemarx.com/video/reviews/14/ancient-trader.aspx    The Guy that barely talks

http://www.gamemarx.com/video/reviews/84/colon-jump.aspx         The Girl

http://www.gamemarx.com/video/reviews/8/along-came-a-spider.aspx    The main talker.

Colon jump was my favorite.

"Hi I'm going to try being cool and cultured by mispronouncing kawaii"

Its a shame this is some mass Indie games review site, probably auto content filled for the most part, and has 3 reviewers that don't seem to know f*ckall about anything.  Thankfully by the looks of it, there's not a lot of popularity on the site.

I'm thrilled they reviewed my game for the most part.  What I am not thrilled about however, is that the review itself is trash.  Its hardly even a review.  I would've preferred it be a negative review that was accurate or actually COVERED THE GAME.

Instead of reviewing or commenting on anything about the game they spend most of the 8 minutes providing their misinformed recollection of the 80s.  The comments they do finally make are petty ones.

"Oh the flashing background is too much"   <<< fair enough.

"Oh, I have to walk and shoot" <<< Wrong.  You stop moving when you shoot, goon.

There weren't any comments on the controls (except that its just like the Atari 2600 one! A button and a joystick!), nothing on the sound/music (other than mimicking them), no graphical comments other than the helmet one....

no comments on the playability or the difficulty.  Nothing.

Just 3 ignorant wannabes f*cking off the whole time, complete with made up facts about the 80s.

and really, somehow Zelda was referenced.   All they had to do now was reference Pac Man and Mario, and they'd complete the pretend-retro-gamer checklist.

They somehow managed to be just like Gamespot.

I hate modern gamers.

EDIT: Look what I found on their barren Youtube comments

"I like this channel, but you guys don't seem like real gamers? It seems that it takes you a long time to learn very simple generic mechanics used by most games. I'm guessing you don't normally play games? "

>:) hah

Just tonight took notice to this thread and see that X was released on 360. Congrats. Downloading the trial as I type this and if its as good (or better) than the PCE version, I'll drop a buck down for it to help support the cause. Are the upgrades to the game something we can hope to see in Insanity Gold for the PCE or perhaps the sequel? First game is great, but just like any and all games, there is room for improvement.
Title: Re: Insanity X
Post by: Arkhan on July 21, 2011, 06:29:11 PM
It plays a bit faster and there are more robots.

Everyone generally complained that I made the guy move too slow (like the original, which was also slowish).

Other than that, I tried keeping it faithful and simple.  Im kinda testing the 360 waters before I go doing something crazy.

Well, the enhancements are not really that spiffy.  The game plays slightly faster (and then people complained about it.  Not you guys.  Atari guys.  I guess they can't handle anything faster than their shitty 2600 games).

and the AI is slightly different, theres a new title screen and stuff....

and a bunch of other minor tweaks that aren't really super awesome to be honest! :D

Maybe I'll print out fliers and leave them at school and see if any of the local people want to git r done.

Everything moves a little faster.  I guess people didn't like the very close to berzerkness of the PCE CD's speed.
Title: Re: Insanity X
Post by: Necromancer on September 02, 2011, 03:16:31 AM
I didn't really mind the speed.  Sure it's kinda plodding early on when there's not much opposition from the bots, but it's not such a big deal when things get hectic later on.

Right! and thats kind of how Berzerk worked anyways.

the only difference is in Berzerk you're a friggin stickman and I'm pretty sure because of that you move slower, or at least appear to be.

It's funny too because his legs kick like Roadrunner, but he moves slowwwwww

The best part of Insanity is spawning into a holy-shit room, and having to plan where to run to before your invuln period ends.

It really sucks when you spawn into the big open room and get gangbanged.

Ohya, I think the game play is much more balanced in Insanity X then the original Duo game. Getting that temporary invincibility at the start makes a world of difference. I still can't finish the first Insanity.
