iPad owners, a MAMEnt of your time?
« on: July 24, 2013, 11:28:55 PM »
Just thinking here about iPads.  Does anyone know if it's possible to run MAME on them?  I think those iCade (mini cab) things are cute, but I wonder what level of emulation you'd be able to get on an iPad.

I'm completely familiar with Apple products.  Never had iTunes, a mac, an iPhone or an iPad, but I beelieve emulation may be something the app store frowns upon? And can you get around this by jailbreaking?

I'm gonna have a look now to see how much 1st gen iPads are.

That looks good.  Quick caveat though; I'm a bit wierd, but the only things I'm generally interested in emulating is MAME stuff.

It uses mame 0.78 version, so it's older but faster.  It's mame emulates more games than say MAME4ALL which is based off of 0.37.  It also runs Final Burn Alpha.  For more information here you go. :)

I've been tinkering with Retroarch over the past couple of months on my Android tablet and it's pretty slick.  It has a very steep learning curve, but now that I've invested some time, I can play pretty much anything (including PSX games with no noticeable lag)  It plays MAME and NEO GEO games, and also plays OBEY.  And it's free/open-source.  The learning curve is steep right now, though.
