Current Gen Splatterhouse

So, I've only been here about a year and a half and in my travels I have not seen any discussions/opinions around this game.

I bought it on release date, and played it a lot. I got a bit stuck and put it down. Well, I just played it again and I'm at the part where you are racing time and need to escape the graveyard or something. Well time keeps running out on me and I die. I'm obviously not very good at it, but since the very beginning, I feel like I'm missing something. Can't really pinpoint it, but I feel like I'm not picking up on some gaming mechanic within it.
Almost like beating mega man only using the pea shooter. I don't mean to equate it to a "weapon", but more like I feel there is something that is intended to ease progression that I'm missing/lacking.
I have "bought" many of the moves and abilities, and frankly some of them just have dumb, arbitrary button assignments which is why I don't use them much.

Anyway, I enjoy the game, although its a bit repetitive. My two favorite aspects are the throwback to the side scrolling levels and the "disco horror" cut scenes it pushes to for the QTE melee engagements.

So before the "Use Search!" wolf-pack circle, I'm also posting this now because the game has had ample time to ferment, and I'm wondering how people still feel about it.  Have you played it again recently?  Did you hate/love it at launch?  And most important, will we see a sequel?  (I don't think we'll see a sequel)

I got it at release, and expected it to be awful. Surprisingly, it wasn't. The mask's dialog was a bit over-the-top at points, but in all it was a pretty decent game. That said, there were some pretty shitty parts and I think I wound up putting the game down due to frustration.
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

I just flat out didnt like it. It was too focused on the gore factor and not some much on the gameplay. I got bored quickly and never want to play it again.
All is well. :)

I thought so too, but it has its moments.  The kitchen fight was fun and throwing the spiney guys into the mouth was ok too.   But yeah, pretty repetitive.

It's not the worst game I ever played.

Picked it up about three weeks ago as a cheap way to play through Splatterhouse arcade and Genesis 2 and 3, since getting the TG16 version in a lot made me regain an interest in the series.

Then I learned you have to play through the actual game to unlock the older ones D=

It wasn't that bad.  It's one of those games where you start out underpowered with very few attack options, but you unlock all the interesting stuff using currency as you play.  It gets to the point where it's kind of fun, I promise!  Can't really blame someone for dropping it, though.  Once I was done I was close to finishing the achievements so I raced through it on the hardest difficulty and S ranked the arenas.  The wickerman one was a pain in the ass, but whatever.

After all that I was sick of Splatterhouse.  Still haven't played the old games =[

galam, the only graveyard escape I can think of is right near the end of the game, when the meteors are crashing down and you're auto-running towards the screen and using incredibly awkward tank controls.  Just need to steer Rick past the craters and catch the last one, iirc.

PS - those naked CG Jenny pics are really... weird.
