Wow never heard about it, the NES port is really something else, lots of samples, solid gameplay, looks really fun. I should try it sometime

I wrote NES earlier but I meant to say Famicom - Rampart for the NES and Rampart for the Famicom are in fact totally different versions of the game.  The Japanese port is a revamped game by Konami with extra features, check it out:

Not sure about all regions, but here in Japan there was a 2 player PCB that uses standard joysticks instead of trackballs and is fully JAMMA compliant.

I played this all the time at university arcade. Great game.

I even suggested it as a candidate for a TG-16 port years ago (wishful thinking thread).
