Super Bonk 2
« on: December 20, 2015, 03:06:17 AM »
Anybody play this one? And I don't mean the mediocre Bonk 3.5 Super Bonk.

It's more along the lines of Revenge. I like Revenge more but it's a must play if you love SNES platformers, or Bonk games.

Pros: best graphics in the series, creative ideas, tubes are more interesting, password system, more involved Heart container system, longer than Bonk 3

Cons: Music not as good as Revenge or Adventure, some levels are tedious and very long, bonus stages are not secret and not very fun, 5th boss is cheap, King Drool is disappointing

Personal Ranking: 2>Super 2>3>1>Super 1

I have it.  I actually prefer Revenge over it, but it is a pretty damn good game.  Certainly better than 3.  I find myself getting bored fast with 3, and just stop playing.

Super Genjin 2 looks and feels like a colorized GB Genjin game. I always wanted the PCE Bonks to be fully shaded with vibrant color, the way that the PCE can, but SG2 has poor crude and painfully poorly animated (2-frame) artwork as a basis and the shading and color only makes it all the more noticeable. The bosses are particularly embarrassing, but everything else is awkwardly sized and much of the stage design seems like it's are out of a third rate third party NES game. The developer clearly doesn't understand the Bonk games at all and managed to mess up or not include all of the key aspects of what makes them great and authentic. Throughout the game I kept having the strong impression of playing a custom SMS Bonk game and how un-16-bit it feels.

The overall graphics, sound gameplay and trail far behind the rest of the 16-bit Bonks as well as FC Genjin.

If I had to rank the 16-bit Bonk games right now, I put them at: 1>2>3>................Super>............................................Super 2.

Every time I make a thread, you always have to rant or shit inside the thread. Why is that?

One example, when I made the Bonk's Revenge thread you started ranting about Evo for literally no reason.

If RED does't know how to make a Bonk game, then why would you rank 1 above 2? Bonk 1 is a very linear game, and a lot of the secrets, if any, are right in front of you.

And why do you always talk about the Master System? Super Bonk 2 definitely doesn't look or play like a master system game. Show some examples if you honestly think that.

I play PCE games because they are fun, but I don't discount the SNES just because the PCE lost. They both have merits, and having a console war in your head is ridiculous.

Ban him!!!

Seriously though, Adventure & Revenge are both pretty doable and worth the play through if you have them or the Gate of Thunder 4 in 1 disc!

Super Genjin 2 seems to be a very polarizing game.  I have always avoided it due to the initial reviews it had when it came out, but I think it is finally time to seek it out for myself...

My favourite has always been Revenge, with BA at #2 and Super Bonk at #3 - Bonk III is last - I find it frustrating in that it seemed to rushed, but with a big staff... meaning they were able to create and/or reuse a ton of assets in the game, but then messed up on play testing and fine tuning...

I like the transformations in this game. I think they could have done a bit more with it overall though.

I still kind of like Revenge more, but this is my second favorite.

I like the brighter colors & the music in this more then Super Bonk.  I'm not a huge fan of the smaller proportions, nor am I a fan at all of the checkpoint systems they introduced.  I know it makes it more difficult, which I'm sure many like, but, I suck, so, yeah.  King Drool deffinitley pissed me off, kept dying every time he flipped over.  Still, I do think I like it better then Super Bonk, & might consider it the best non Turbob Bonk, though all of them have their flaws.

I only played this game for the first time about five years ago. I was really surprised by it and how different it was from previous Bonks, which honestly, I saw as a good thing. I love the previous Bonk games, but I thought it was cool that they were trying something different. The smaller proportions were interesting to me, as it almost made the game feel like Super Mario World. It's not the best Bonk out there, but I'd rank it higher than Super Bonk 1.
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

I agree about the sprites feeling off and the backgrounds being bleh; the former are just too small, and the latter is too often filled with little more than geometric shapes using three or four colors on a nice gradient sky.

Every time I make a thread, you always have to rant or shit inside the thread. Why is that?

Giving one's honest opinion about a game is neither ranting nor thread shitting.

Black Tiger just does this.  Not sure why, whether it's that he's actually trying to spark controversy or if he's just compulsively contrary, he has nary a good thing to say about much of anything from what I can tell.

Don't take it personally. :)

I've coincidentally been investigating both the Super Bonk games recently, looking to get them. As well as the reworked one on PS2. I have to be honest The two on SNES look to me to have serious deficiencies. I don't like the lack of a stock controller with turbo switches. I want to spin through the air a billion times with one jump. Second (and I concede that it may have been the gameplay video I watched), the jump seems to be way off. Like seriously delayed and floaty. I suspect that might bother me. The design of Bonk through his various "meated" stages don't look appealing to me, at all. I thought the design was just about perfect in Revenge. I'll reserve a ranking of the Bonk games for now, as I have more I need to delve into.
