Is Ikaruga as good a game as the internet says it is? I've been thinking about picking this up (GC version) for a long time and saw it the other day for a reasonable price, 25 bones. A couple things always hold me back though, namely its easier to just play TG16 shooters I haven't got around to finishing like Zonk, and I don't like hard games very much. Should I bite the bullet and go for it?

I've played it a few times, but not enough to fully experience the game. The first couple of times I played it, I didn't like it much, but I enjoyed it more the third time. It's a decent game and it's up to you to buy it. Personally I would rather use the money on a good TG16 shooter.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

It's really, really good.  Perhaps the best of this generation?  Either way, I really enjoy it and say $25 is a good price for it.
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

It's one of my favorite shooters.  $25 is a great deal.  It takes *lots* of practice to get really good at it.  Much of the game is about memorization, as score is everything.  There are very specific patterns to destroying enemies.  It's very difficult in this sense, but is not impossible.

It's a different kind of shooter, but is probably one of the best I've ever played.  Great play machanics, awesome graphics, superb music.  Typical of Treasure.

I know it's blasphemy, but I find it to be much better than the majority of PCE shooters...  And that's saying a lot.  I think that it's just because it's so unique.

The black/white thing is more annoying than fun, I started to hate it royally after a few hours.  There aren't any power ups or other ships, so basically if you enjoy chaining combos and replaying the same stage 800 times until you memorize the layout then it's sweet, but if you just want a good shooter to blast your way through then it pretty much sucks since it's so bare bones.

Now you can get your fix of it even at the office.

Aside from things being is similar locations, that one doesn't even remotely resemble the real thing.  :)

Nice concept though.

you should pick up the Dreamcast Import; its a bit cleaner, and plays better on the DC controller. just not quite the same feeling on the cube, for me anyway.

Daaa unfortunately, that Ikaruga flash game is still under construction.

As soon as the boss shows up, the game says "Coming Soon" and that's it.

However, here's a Mega Man flash game that takes the Ikaruga gameplay concept.

I'd say Ikaruga is a great game and that's a good deal for it. Yeah it's hard but you get better at it with practice. I'm the kind of guy who would rather play blazing lazers or galaga '90 but if you want a good game for your cube this is a great one.

Hey guys.  I'm interested in trying out Ikaruaga for myself.  Do any of you know which online store has the best deal? :)

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

Best try ebay first because most place like PA, YA, JGS, and NCSX are out of stock. The DC version in mint condition runs for about $55, the GC version of course is much cheaper.

I really don't like playing Ikaruga though. I played it for a whole week and in the end I sold it on ebay and bought Under Defeat instead. I mean graphics are fantastic, but the music puts me to sleep and I found the gameplay rather dull.

I'll try the Gamecube version, thanks.  I think I'll have better luck getting access to that version of the game, not to mention it's cheaper.

I'll see what I can dig up on eBay, if things don't go well, I'll try somewhere else.
