Yeah, Minish Cap is a good call. It's short, but might be perfect for a flight.

What did you end up getting?

Nothing yet. Got a week or so to decide.

Get the Dragon Warrior I & II cart for Game Boy Color.  2 sweet old RPGs on one cartridge.  The amount of grinding needed has been scaled back significantly from the original NES version.

I second Golden Sun as a non-Final Fantasy RPG.

Having said that, Final Fantasy Tactics is a ton of fun (in 30-45 minute bursts, imo) and Final Fantasy IV (II on the SNES) is an insane amount of fun.

I really wanted to like Car Battler Joe because it's the only other game I know that mixes RPGs with racing, but it's nowhere near as fun as Final Lap Twin.

You can find a Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA which includes I, II, and III.  I think it's worth it for the first one.

Sigma Star Saga is an RPG where you have mini shmup levels instead of traditional turn-based battles.  It's a cool concept but you may be tired of it before a long flight is over.  I still like playing it in spurts, but I don't anticipate finishing it.

I enjoyed Lunar Legend, but I've never played any of the other Lunar games.

You need to fix this.... please play the others (play 1 on sega cd and 2 on ps1, my opinion)

I have lunar 2 for ps1. Just never got around to playing it. Been sitting on my shelf for almost a year. I listen to the soundtrack it came with though.

One of these days I'll break down and get a Sega CD. :)  I'll keep my eye out for the PS1 one, though.  Thanks!

Accept no imitations - Lunar 1 on anything but the Sega CD is blasphemy

I don't know if it was this thread or what, but I started playing Golden Sun again a week or two ago for a few hours and now I'm up to my eyes in it. Love this game. I'm entertaining the notion of dragging my Game Cube into the living room so I can play it on the big screen. In fact, the only reason I haven't played it as many times as my other RPG favorites is because it's on a handheld. I much prefer viewing on a TV with a controller in hand. Okay, I've convinced myself.
If anyone gets any leads on a "fair priced" copy of Coryoon, please lemme know!
