It kind of reminded me of Zelda II back in the day. Hey keranu <being a zelda II fan and all>, you've played this one?

Zelda 2 set with Greek Gods-  now that brings back memories.  I think that the game used the same engine as Zelda 2.  Graphics were almost identical-  Olympus was a late release on the NES so the colors were better.  The game was almost on the same level as a 1st gen SNES game-
Good game- except for that damn password system.

Yeah I never beat it because of the stupid password system.  I think I lost my password one time and it was pretty far in the game, after some REALLY hard boss that I had totally gotten lucky to beat and that just discouraged me from ever playing it again.

I've played a little bit of it many, many times. It's one of those games that looks awesome and that I'll really have to try beating some time. Zelda II was so awesome, so playing anything like it would be great.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Excellent game, haven't played it since it was released. I beat it, that's for sure, because it felt like an accomplishment.

As for passwords -- I hated writing down those things (Metroid? Faxanadu?), so I simply recorded them onto a VHS tape. I once sent this tip into a video game magazine (gamepro or VG & CE) and to my dismay, I never got a response. DAMN IT, THAT WAS A GREAT TIP :).

Anyway, I still use the same technique when I play games today :), no joke.

A good friend of mine used to do that technique with Final Lap Twin as well!

I played this game a LOT a long, long time ago. I got to Tartaros (or whatever it was called) but I got stuck there. My brother finished it though.

I LOVED that game. I loved EVERYTHING about it. The game rules. Probably the best NES game ever.

The Game Boy version wasn't as good though.

To be honest even though I've played quite a bit if this game back in the day (I didn't beat it, was a rental), I don't really don't remember any specific events in the game. I remember really liking the game, but it somehow slipped through the cracks and I never got a chance to rent it again before the move to TG/MD/SNES systems. I'll have to set aside some time one of these days to beat this game.

I actually missed out on a lot of great late-era NES games because I was so wrapped up in the 16-bit stuff. I wish I had paid more attention to the NES... years later, I began to read about all of these games I had never heard of (i.e. Shatterhand). I still gotta get Shatterhand and see what its like!

Battle for Olympus is still a pretty awsome game. I still sit down for a few hours every couple a months and beat it. Since the save system is such a pain I usually just play it straight through when I have about 3 extra hours on my hands. Some areas still suck though no matter how good I get at the game. Pythia, for example, blows all that jumping from pillar to pillar hoping not to get hit in midair because if you do its almost certain death, and then you have to go back and collect more olives for your best sword. Crete used to suck pretty hard for me too, but its more about memorizing the path than skill. Tarturus is a pretty brutal level and the last boss is a little hard at first, but once you know how to beat him he is fairly easy.

As a side note this game is probably my 5th favorite on the NES behind Guardian Legend, Ninja Gaiden 3, Crystalis, and Blaster Master in that order.

With the exception of the password system, a great and challenging game.

The only game with a worse password that I played was The Guardian Legend. I can't count the times I screwed up a password and lost an afternoon of progress on that game......the funny thing is that (if I remember correctly) both BoO and TGL were released in America by the same company.

yes Broderbund actually...Legacy of the Wizard was particularly frustrating at times....

Guardian Legend!  I forgot about that game...I remember it being awesome though I never finished it I don't think...
