The Chronicles of "Bub and Bob"
« on: September 01, 2007, 04:45:50 AM »

For those that don't know, Bub and Bob are the two cute little dinosaurs from Taito's two widely successful franchises "Bubble Bobble" and "Puzzle Bobble". They've also made cameos in numerous other Taito titles like Champion Wrestler. They cute, ain't they? I've had a bit of a fixation with anything their in for a few weeks now. Starting when I got Bubble Bobble for the Game Gear, and the re-release for the Sega Saturn (which also includes Rainbow Islands). And soon I'll be getting the NES version (complete) in the mail, and now, I ordered a japanese import two pack with Puzzle Bobble 2X and Space Invaders, today. I'll be damned if there's not some kind of plush toys of Bub and Bob or something in Japan, because you'd think there would be considering the legendary status of their first game and their credibility and popularity.

Dragon's Lair appreciation. Again.

The SMS version is arcade perfect by the standards of the day, but I was disappointed to find that the Mark III version doesn't support FM sound. :(

beats me, all those vintage anime doll prices are insane! This dude in my city has an anime store and he was bragging that he sold a 5 foot totoro for $1000.00

I was soooo hearbroken that Taito never did a pc engine conversion of this..

Still theres always rainbow islands, parasol stars and the bubble bobble collection on Saturn..

The original is still the best since I'm not really fond of the puzzle games or bubble symphony..

I love the series, but Chip Chan Kick on the FX is superior to every game Taito cranked out.  Which is kind of sad really cause it was made by Cyber Tech Custom, and CCK is the only game they've made that isn't porn.

Heh, I find many versions of the game to be arcade perfect (except maybe the ZX Spectrum or the Monochrome Game Boy). That's another thing that makes this game unique. Alot of home versions look identical to the arcade original.

Heh, I saw that. Pretty funny, but I don't know why he'd grow to hate the game because of that.

Hate naw he mention in the credits he like the serise still.

More "like a rant avgn style" and i can understand given how the serise is broken up.

Having more then one version of part two and three can be confuseing.

Still i guess bubble symphony and bubble memorise were made given, how fans reaction were towards rainbow islands and parasole stars.

Can't say i've found many fans who like rainbow islands and parasole stars.

Btw beside bubble bobble and rainbow island being on the collction for the ps1&saturn.It's also on (Taito legends and Taito memorise) for the ps2.

The game has had so many ports.

I've always wondered about CCK. I thought Cyber Tech Custom had to be some kind of division of Taito, or formed by ex-Taito employees or something. CCK is so the next chapter in the series.

The games of Cyber Tech Custom:  http://www.page.sannet.ne.jp/yama-z/hobby/custom/custom.html#games

As you can see they haven't done much, and with the exception of CCK and PC-9801 Carat (although Carat on Windows '95 has porn), they are all hentai titles.  Chip herself is in several other games, kinda disturbing considering she's only about 10, if not younger.  My guess is that NEC must have given Custom a huge chunk of cash and helped out with the programming, as CCK is certainly a AAA high-budget game.  It really is odd though that this tiny, no-name hentai company was responisble for the best game on the FX.   :-k

Cyber Tech's "Carat" is a puzzle game, totally unrelated to "Pia Carrot."
