Teh DS-10 topic
« on: December 01, 2009, 12:23:33 PM »
I'm sure (or at least hope so) some peeps here are proud owner of the fabulous KORG DS-10 software for the NDS (or I hope that this thread may trigger some peeps to purchase it ;)) here you can post your creations, doesn't matter how good or bad they are.

so here's my very 1st attempt with that software which took me about 1 hour after lot's of screwing around with decays, attacks, cut-off etc. also excuse the bad sound quality. will probably make an other upload later with better sound settings.

you may also talk about the software it self, pros. & cons., tricks & hints, suggestions etc.

as for my part, I think that only 16 patterns are far too few to create a good song. you are limited such strong, you can't even create an old C64 SID classic like cybernoid or such. also I think that there is no possibility of using the pots, buttons and slider in realtime while running a song. this is taking a lot of life-act flair. anyway, I would be glad, if someone here can show ways which probably could bypass such limitations (w/o using two devices parallel) ;)

looking forward for some cool stuff :)

Word life.

I'm waiting for the Korg DS+ to come here in January. I'm buying that and a DSi in one foul swoop. The Korg DS/DS+ alone justifies the existence of the Nintendo DS. lol

what will be the main differences between the DS & DS+ version? the + version is already out here since this august, but sold out everywhere i have checked it so far. therefore i had bought the 1st release as 2nd hand.

This page gives a very brief summary of what the DS+ offers. Basically twice of everything.

yeah, just investigated the net. and now feel bit idiotic that I have bought the old version and not the DS-10+, even it was 2nd hand and cheaper. but on the other hand, I was looking for the (+) quite hard but couldn't find it on the fast :(

the DS10+ has doubled the tracks, drum kits, VCO from the DS-10. and the best of all, it allows you to change anything while running a song in real time.

DANG!!!

Nice, I like the second try much better.  How did you duplicate the coin and jumping sounds so well?  I wish sometimes there were a way to import sounds into the DS-10.  I am currently running two DS-10's.  When two DS's go into synch it's pretty sweet.  It seems that sometimes when I make a song it's pretty good, and sometimes it sucks.  I do wish the sections could be a bit longer though, that's my main gripe.  Also, I've found that it's best to make the music wearing head phones or line out to a stereo, because if you go by how it sounds like on the DS speakers it will sound like crap on a real stereo.  Another thing I wish is if you could transfer songs to and from the DS onto your computer so that you can work on songs with people via the internet.  Can't wait for the DS-10+ to come out.  Maybe I can find a copy of it to download onto the R4.

you are right about the pattern length as well 16 patterns are way to few to bring much variation into the game.

how about posting some of your tunes? :)

I have to figure out a way to do that.  Somehow I need to input the DS into the computer to get a good recording so that I can convert it into MP3, then upload to youtube, I guess.  I was up late last night tweaking a song and it came out pretty cool I think.  I also have a keyboard with CPU input, midi, etc etc.  It's just in storage with everything else I own.  I have found a way to input the DS into the keyboard and capture sounds/tunes/samples to be able to assign the DS-10 tunes to a key on the keyboard.  Works pretty well.  I eventually would like to use a combination of the DS-10, and the keyboard to come up with some tunes.  I have not tried messing around much yet with FL Studio, but would like to get into that a bit as well, seems very powerful.

Tits, how are you able to get yours onto youtube and sound ok?

I used to mess around with FL Studio, but was not very proficient. Lately I've just been using the built-in sequencer in the JunoG, which does the trick. FL is great though. You shouldn't have any problems with it. I just didn't give it the time and I was a complete n00b with that stuff at the time. I should probably go back to it now that I'd be able to better figure it out.

Yah FL is pretty cool, I downloaded the demo and it ran extremely slow on my old laptop.  I need to install it onto the desktop and see how it runs.
