My next collection!
« on: April 11, 2011, 06:04:17 AM »
So, as the title states....I am looking to start a new collection.  I always liked the Sega Genesis, hell I had one when I was a kid... BUT, I never owned a Sega CD.  I always felt the Duo was a much better system, and for that matter, I still feel the same way.  However, I still am wanting one.  I have been pricing the units, and so far I am leaning towards the JVC X'EYE.  I kinda liked the Sega CD X as well, but the JVC unit appeals to me the most, and they aren't really all that hard on the wallet.  Good thing about this collection, is I dont want every game.  I just want certain ones, and that appeals to my wife as well.  So, looks like I have the green light on this project.     Games I know for sure I will be buying are the RPG's.  I will most likely set it up right next to my PCengine Duo.  :-k

Are there any folks here that mess with this system?  Also, are there any mod services available here at these forums?   :-"

Take it easy guys!

Bernie

CDX usually costs alot more as people like the look of them. I have a Wondermega M2 region modded I can play every genesis/megadrive and sega/mega CD game. Modding an X'EYE isnt too hard as you just have to run a switch to the motherboard to change regions. you can also get a Megakey to pass thorugh the cart slot to play import games as most later games are region locked (e.g. Bare Knuckle III)

[Mon 16:27] <BlueBMW> i wouldnt sell an unmolested duo hehe.  I molest the crap outta of em before they leave me

The nice thing (and also sad) about the Genesis is that you can skip the CDs completely and only miss out on about a half dozen games. Its not like the PCE where the CD add-on is essential.

Oh, I dont plan on skipping the CD games at all.  Thats the main reason I want one.  Some of the RPG games I have never played are on that system.  Been talking with a couple guys here, and there appears to be an issue with the switch that lets the system know that the cd door is closed on the X'Eye.  So, I may end up going with the Sega CDx.  But, still..  I may get the JVC unit as well.  I just really like the appeal of it.  Any and all input on this is welcome.  This is a new avenue for me, I have NEVER owned a Sega CD system at all.   Just played the CD games via emulation with Kega Fusion.  But, there is just nothing like playing it on your TV with the actual hardware.

I'd Go w/ X'eye there very reliable can easily be modded for S Video & Jap MD Cart Games. Don't know if anyone here mods them as I've only been here about a month, but if you can't find anyone here you should able to find someone over at sega-16.com

I have US Genesis Model 1 + Front-loading CD drive and the later side-by-side (top-loading) US system. I also have a JP MegaDrive.

I am a fan of the Sega-CD, but, I must admit that you will exhaust the library of good games and wish that it had received more (and better) support from developers. Some folks will argue that the CD-ROM library is more robust than folks give it credit for, but, sadly, these folks are victims of wishful thinking :).

Dark Wizard is a game I really dig, even though it is not perfect by any means. It grew on me. There are neat twists/aspects to the story, depending on how you play.
