How to get custom shell for mods?
« on: May 03, 2017, 03:12:50 PM »
I am not a God of bondo and I don't have vacuum forming machine or CNC machine so those are out. Is there a way to get custom shell that can be easily used for making a portable PCE?  Been wanting to get one like LT but LT costs too much and TE/GT are limited by size to about 3" LCD without looking ugly. I wanted something with 5 or 7" LCD on a PCE or Coregrafx board.

Any suggestion or idea?

I see a golden handheld console in your future.

I see $750 evaporating from your savings account.

Something like LT2 but without the big price tag.

Wonder if I could make a wooden shell? Wood is cheap.

Making a shell out of wood isn't hard to do.

Making it look good is another story. Be prepared for lots of measuring, cutting using a circular saw bench or band-saw, drilling straight holes on a drill press, learning how to make concealed connections (nobody likes visible screws if you don't do steampunk), sanding, priming, sanding, priming, sanding, painting, sanding, painting, sanding, painting, lacquering, etc.

They tried to make me do a recap
I said no, no, no

It's doubtful. Someone who would be fine with using a 16:9 screen would probably be fine with emulation on a PSP. On the other hand, if you want real hardware, it would be so much easier to just get an Express. The amount of time and effort that goes into these creations just doesn't justify their existence.
