^^ Haha that's hilarious, I've never actually played the real Doki Doki so I might have to hunt the rom down to try it out now. I think the funniest racial stereotype was in DJ Boy when you fight the Aunt Jamima looking lady at the end of stage 2, I was like HOW DID THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS??!
Yeah! But I thought that this was edited out of the U.S. version? I always saw DJ Boy in the rental shop, but I never got it because there was always something "better" that my brothers wanted instead. I still think it looks like a kool game. Roller-skating + beat-em-up + racial stereotypes ... how can you go wrong?
As far as Mike Tyson is concerned: I have only played the Mike Tyson version. When it was released,
everyone had it. It must have been a huge, huge, huge hit. I vaguely knew that Nintendo later re-released the NES version with Mr. Dream swapped in for MT, but by then the hype and excitement had died down.
As far as Arcade Punch Out is concerned: I didn't play it too often (my quarter lasted longer in Commando), but I remember thinking how "futuristic" and amazing the graphics seemed at the time. Then, when I saw the NES version, I was totally blown away! Nintendo really kicked ass. And Mike Tyson was such a huge celebrity at the time, even non-sports fans (like myself) thought he was fascinating.
QUESTION: Nintendo recycled Punch Out for SNES, but I have only vague memories of playing it. What's the scoop on the SNES version?
