Seconded for Parodius...there's also the meh Super Bonk games. Also the "Go! Go! Ackman" series is pretty enjoyable and at last check won't drain the wallet too much.

Super Bonk 2 is WAY better than the first Super Bonk. Give the 2nd one a try.

Also, pretty much all Murican games are cheaper in Japan, even the Donkey Kong Country games.

That one is also know as (king of demon's) and it has a fan translation as well.Ive seen sites to that sell reproductions of the game to.
