What is he actually streaming it from, was it a PS3 or 360?  If it makes it to torrents, would there be some serious CFW stuff to do?  Or maybe there are already decent PS360 emulator's?

Looked like Xbox 360 version from what I could tell

There's a story out there that some guy owns a PS3 dev kit with just Bonk Brink of Extinction on it.

That would be my guess.

The A and B buttons in the menus were the Xbox 360 style which led me to believe it was a 360 build.

Dang, I'm sad that I missed this. I am always surprised when builds make it through the cracks of studio purges. This might become less surprising as time goes on, considering the 360 devkits hold data builds pertty well on the hdd, so I would not be surprised to see this become more common than in previous dead generations.

Some things I picked up while listening to this stream...

He was talking about how in one instance, he was streaming a DEV kit for an XBOX game, and got a letter from a Microsoft lawyer; with false claims that he was too poor to fight, and he ended up taking the videos in question down. People on the Bonk live chat (esteban and jttucci were there) were asking how he was getting these kits, and he said that in many instances, despite not being a programmer or industry insider, people would just send him stuff to review, because they wanted it to see the light of day somewhere.

There was also talk of unreleased stuff not getting out, and he brought up some of the things that we have encountered here : 1. Collector doesn't want game/ROM to get out because it will drop the price 2. They're afraid of getting sued 3. They're afraid the unreleased stuff is stolen (mentioning a Persona 4 dev kit being lifted recently)

I drew comparisons to the whole issue with PC Cocoron, and the two known copies which are unavailable to the general public.

I guess was I'm asking is: how badly do people want to play this game? What is the level of interest here on Pcefx?

I personally, would love for this game to get some sort of release. Looked decent enough.

Same here.  I'm not expecting it to be the best thing since sliced bread, but, IIRC, besides being Bonk, it also had Metroidvania elements, so, thumbs up from me in that regard!

Just to clarify, It was an XBOX (slated) release.

I personally, would love for this game to get some sort of release. Looked decent enough.

Same here.  I'm not expecting it to be the best thing since sliced bread, but, IIRC, besides being Bonk, it also had Metroidvania elements, so, thumbs up from me in that regard!

I will say this, he did say that he's not in it for the money, and that if "someone" offered him the same amount for the DEV kit, that he would consider selling it. He said that nothing makes him happier than when games that were unreleased actually get a second chance on forums like these. He said that in the past he has released two(?) games, one for free, and another for the price of shipping and media. Although he said that he's not a rich guy I got the feeling that it was kind of the same deal that happened here with the Turbob Express.

...So next question... do we persuade him to sell it to us and do a group buy? Or just let it stay in Texas, never to see the light of day again.

I'm happy to initiate the conversation with him if there is enough interest from the community, but again, there will be no absolute guarantee that he may want to part with it. if he does though, I think it will carry more weight if the PCEFX community wants the game instead of blueraven, nullity, kisaku, etc. There has to be enough genuine interest, we have to agree to the same terms as BMW & Bernie's Turbob Express, and with a little luck, we MIGHT get a chance to play this thing.

I really have to say; all love aside for the other Bonk games, I was really impressed with the powerups, the levels, and the oldschool look of the game. The cartoon cutscenes were pretty phenomenal, and despite the 85% complete look and it not being a PCE release it was pretty sweet.

Whad'ya all think? I'm only speaking for myself and about 5 others right now, and don't want to initiate this until the community has spoken, so could more people chime in on whether or not we should we made him an offer? Is this overstepping the bounds of collectardom asking him for a DEV kit? :D

Thanks all, for your feedback.

What I wanna knows is, how do we play it, if we get it off him? Would we have to mod our 360/ps3s? Or like have someone modify the game to play on PC? Is that possible? Do you have a ballpark as to the price he paid? I'd be willing to chip in if others are.

I think acquiring the Dev kit is worth exploring, but like HailingTheThings, I wonder if we'll be able to play it.  With a Dev kit, are all the resources going to be there for someone to port it to PC or whatever so the average obeyer can play it?  I'm not super keen on modding my PS3.  I do have an old arcade edition 360(no HDD), maybe I'd mod that since I never play it.  Also, unless I missed how much he paid for it, I have no idea how much it would be, & then splicing it between us..., I don't have a lot of $, so how much it was & how many were willing to throw in their share would probably make a difference for me sadly.

Put my vote in for "Yes"...I would certainly help  make this a "community-based" endeavor.

I'd be willing to contribute $$$, of course, but I'd love to hear thoughts from other pcefx members, regardless of how they vote and/or pledge financial support.

:)

Also, Marble Madness PCE. Let's make that happen.

Hahjahahajjajajjaja. If I wasn't so tired, you would have heard me LOL.

I would support this. I am sad I missed the stream though.

I remember seeing previews for this before Hudson went under, and I almost didn't care if it was going to be good, it was a day one purchase for me. Just to support Hudson making a new Bonk game.

If he doesn't want to part with it, would he be willing to get us an image of the kit's hard drive? We could then try to acquire a different dev kit and restore the image to it. Just a thought.
