hmm, I wouldn't consider any of those DE or Gauntlet clones. Unless you're considering topdown action as the relative similarity.

I don't think there are any Gauntlet clones (except DE), who would want to rip-off such a terrible game? ;) Name one Gauntlet clone (CLONE, not a remotely similiar game).

He said that he's looking for Gauntlet clones and action games like Mercs and Ikari Warriors and his list of examples includes Landstalker and Gotzendeiner.

Try Granada.  I don't dig it, but a few people here do, and I think it'd be your kind of game.

There is a sweet Granada-style game for PCE (HuCard) called Metal Stoker. It doesn't seem to be talked about much, but I love that game. Another game similar to Granada and Metal Stoker is Jackal for NES (probably an arcade port), which is a fantastic game.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

You're right, we don't ever talk about Metal Stoker. It's not as awesome as Jackal for NES, but it is a decent game in its own right. I never beat it, though, have you? I can't remember how far I got in the game (not that I could tell, anyway).

Somebody needs to post the ending to Metal Stoker on YouTube :)

Haven't beat Metal Stoker, I think I made it to level 3 or 4 last time I played it. If I recall, the levels can be pretty long. Maybe I'll try beating it soon, it's a fun game. It has that unique Face-style sound to it, like Time Cruise.

Thank you for reminding me of Metal Stoker! I loved Granada on the Gen. I need Metal Stoker in my life.

No prob, I think you'll enjoy it. I really dig it's futuristic themed graphics.
